I have a lazer and sometimes this happens to me. If there is ice built up on the cutting blades it will not want to drill. All you need to do in this case is carefully chip the ice off the bottom of the blades. Even a thin layer of ice will make it not want to cut. I love my lazer and when drilling through a couple feet or more of ice they really shine for speed.

No matter which one you get here is a good idea. I used to do with my flip. Load all you stuff in the sled except the auger. Then take the auger and lay it across the two rails of the sled, so the auger is pointing east and west if the sled is facing north and south. Then I would take a bungee cord or two and bungee it to the rails. This worked good for me, as I would not have to try an figure out where in the sled to put my auger.

The LX5 Is a absolute awesome unit, for hole hopping. And fishing in a house. Whoever fishes with you will be more than happy, and might not want to give it back to you.

After the fix, I doubt you will have the same issue again. At least not for many years.

I have had this happen. Sorry to tell you but most likely something is really wrong. When it happened to me the motor had stopped spinning. I brought it into marcum and they fixed me up. If you live or work anywhere near Versa Electronics (Marcum),
    3943 Quebec Avenue North
Minneapolis, MN 55427 you could just swing in and drop it off. They have great customer service.

Can you get new blades for yours? I’d say its the sharpness of the blades that is why it cut so fast. If you can get your blades sharpened or get new blades, that would make yours cut like butter I’d bet.

Marcum’s customer service is so great, if you have any issues, they will most likely take care of you. I have walked in with my unit, and my dads two separate occasions. My unit I had the receipt but they didn’t even ask for it. “Whats wrong, ok yep you can pick it up in two days.” My dads I had bought off craigslist two years later the motor stopped, same thing, they fixed it right up.

I just checked them out at the st. paul ice show and talked to one of the frabill guys there about them. I have a guardian flip over right now. He said one thing you will notice is it takes longer for setup, then the flip overs because some of the poles need to be “put into place” that actually are main poles of the structure not just the wind poles. Anyway I didn’t even know that until he told me. They seemed awesome though and I really liked how the front wall of the shack is straight up and down.

I assume you are wanting to use some type of braid? That is why you want a backing. If so check to see if the spools that came with the reels are braid ready. An easy way to tell is if there are grooves machined into the spool. If not I think electric tape would work great.

Could be a bad, or under charged battery. This has happened to me a couple times and I am sitting there like what the heck. Then I switch to a new battery with full charge a bingo back in business and then I remember I forgot to charge the battery. Or I find out my other battery can’t hold a charge anymore.

I’d say leave the tailgate closed and have the house sitting on top of the closed gate. put a ratchet strap across from drivers side rear rail to passenger side rear rail (or rear stake pockets) if it seems necassary for securing it. You should be good to go and you will be able to have your tailgate shut as you desire. Good luck fishing!

Marcum. The LX3tc has the adjustable zoom. You can move the zoom window up or down in the water column. This is a great feature. Like others are saying the technology in the marcums is just better. Like owning a computer instead of a typewriter. Vexilar continues to update their models, without really updating the technology to go with it. Marcum, is on top of their game.

I hear you guys on this problem and agree shutting the unit off at the tank is the way to go. I just want to say about the 1 pound tanks, that you must be very careful unscrewing them from the unit while the heater is still running. If the valve on the one pounder gets stuck when it pops off of the heater there will be propane spraying out of it and onto open flame / heater tiles and will result in a huge ball of flame or worse the one pounder exploding. I have personally had the huge ball of flame thing happen to me.
