Fished Tonka from shore on Sun for about 2hrs in a shallow cove probably 4ft deep. Caught a lot of real nice sunnies around 7″ only managed 3 crappies but one was 11.5″ also got about a 3 lb largemouth. Think it is a little early for the crappies to be real shallow just yet.

How deep were you fishing Stanman?

Crappies are going strong 20ft steep drop into 30 with weeds close. Really a mixed bag but not many over 9″. Bigger fish seem to be in small schools in the weeds. Going out again tonight looking for larger fish in the shallower water probably 12-14′. Fish do seem to be bighting later into the night better than a week ago but they do definately slow down after about 8pm.

Some access are getting a little rough but it was making ice the other night still 20″+

Make sure you bring waxies I am probably 15-1 waxies to minnow fish.

Was out the last couple nights on Tonka and found fish both nights, 1st night caught quite a few but a lot of small fish, I think 12 over 8″ so not bad if you are into cleaning they were in 22ft and some were on the bottom and some were 12-14′ off the bottom. Also caught 2 that were probably 3.5″ they looked like a rattle trap.

2nd night went to a difft spot fished shallower I think I ended up catching 9 but none under 9 with 10.5 being the biggest. fished in about 12′ right in the weeds close to the edge of a steep break, also fished deeper off of the break but not many fish out there.

Probably going out again tonight in the blizzard.
still over 2ft of ice and there is hardly anyone on the lake.

That hump runs more east west and is north of the bluff on the East side of the bay. It is pretty long probably 150 yds or so. I have fished maxwel quite a bit and never caught an eye but I have not iced this spot. Mostly big pike and small crappies. Did get a 42″ muskie off of that hump this summer while bass fishing.

Boy I am really stinking it up out there. Fished Cooks and Priest again for Walleye and crappie on Sat. Did not catch any of either but with all of the traffic out there I am not surprised. Am going to give it another try tonight.

Anyone venture past hardscrabble? Wondering about the conditions of the ice?

Where did he go on the ice at to start an adventure like that?

I will say that this is the best ice I have seen on Tonka in quite a while.

Was up there 2 weeks ago and there was 6-9″ of ice got about a dozen walleyes in about 24 ft and a couple of large northerns out of Mckinley park.

Headed back up on Thurs to try again hopefully it will not be so cold this time.

Well I made it out on sun for a couple of hours and fished for crappies in Priests did not catch any. Fished in 18, 20, 22, 24, 26, and 28 and could not find them. Probably 10-12 inches of clear solid ice couple of trucks out there but not mine.

Mike I know the humps you are talking about I got a 45″ ski there a couple of years ago bass fishing. Need a new belt for the sled and maybe I will try over there. I am pretty new to this end of the lake and am going to try and force myself to fish close to home before I go back to my old spots.

Anyone getting any crappies, mostly looking for a depth to start at, I get off of work to late to do the Walleye thing most nights. I think next time out I am bringing the auger and the vexilar until I find them.
