Buy adhesive LED’s on Amazon. You can purchase a 14′ strip for $15.00. Cut the strip in half and stick them to the bars. Extend the wires to a battery. Way more light and a quarter of the cost.

Any one have a link to these ?

    Bearcat,
I just posted a link to some I want to try. They are 12V, so they will run off of a SLA or Lithium Ion.

If our warm weather does not end soon, I may have to mow the yard in January. That would be a first. Raked leaves in the yard yesterday in just a hoody and broke a sweat. Next few days still have days over freezing and nights at or just below the freezing mark. Gotta get on ice soon or I will go completely nuts or become an alcoholic.

Nice to see somebody is out there and getting some fish through the hole.

Consider yourself lucky. My daughters 2018 Escape has a full “blanket” under the engine, something like 12 fasteners that need to be removed before you can even get to the drain plug & filter. I’m just not going to lay on the floor and try to deal with all that.

My 2015 Escape has the same thing, 2 or maybe 3 different size torx head screws just to get to the oil plug and filter. Makes me wonder if any of those covers even serve a purpose besides income generation for Ford! When not wanting an escape from the family, the local garage can deal with all that extra work.

Both sound like great ideas, but how do you move them once they are hot? Maybe a handle of some type?

I am far West Central Ohio. I made it out for a couple of hours in mid December on 2.5″-3″ of nice clear ice, then a non-stop warm spell moved in. Looks like my new Eskimo Evo 1it shanty will not get to smell like fish this season. I have been thinking about a trip to northern lower peninsula of Michigan, lake Simcoe in Ontario or maybe even devil’s lake north Dakota to scratch my ice fishing itch. Only a few nights have lots below freezing in the next 10 days forecast and highs in the mid 40’s won’t make any ice. Anyone that has even walkable ice should consider themselves lucky and those driving on ice are truly blessed! I need to hit the lottery and retire to Minnesota, Wisconsin or north Dakota. At this point in the season, I highly doubt if lake Erie will have fishable ice this year. We need a few slow moving cold fronts to come through and soon!

This in-between season is aweful, too cold for boating or kayaking, but too warm for hard water walking.

No alcohol on the ice for me, I’ll save that for when I get home, things put away and fish cleaned.

On the ice, a candy bar, a mountain dew or two and some beef jerky keep the stomach quiet and happy.

Capt Morgan cannonball sounds delicious with the cheese that John suggested.

Venison summer sausage is good too, or beef summer sausage if no deer have been shot or hit with the car.

Not many buckeyes here. Can you keep these temps low John? Too much rain and warm weather moving in again just as we are starting to get good ice again.

Fishing the edge of a crowd can sometimes be productive if fish are on a flat. If there is structure, seek something similar.

I have found a crowd makes a lot of noise which can spook fish and push them away or give them lock jaw.

How many lines are you allowed? I would as others have said drill drill drill. I would set out Tip Downs or Tip ups set very light for Perch using small minnows.

This will allow you to cover a larger area. Perch generally will sit tight to the bottom and many times are not visible on a locator unless they come up off the bottom after a lure or you can zoom in on the bottom.

We are allowed 2 rods and 6 tip-ups per angler. I find them more of an anchor, keeping me confined in one area.

I have tried flashing jigging spoons worked high in the water to try to raise perch off the bottom and attract them from a distance.

Most of my friends don’t want to drive the 45 minutes to try something new. I work close by and only have an hour or 2 in the evenings to try to catch fish. I may have to make a trip on a weekend and spend all day drilling and hole hopping.

Try to find the transition form hard to soft bottom. It is perch fishing so drill drill drill.

Other than the riprap, bottom content is very consistent too. It seems there is nothing to concentrate fish except their food source.

After the Buckeyes got shutout by Clemson last night, there are not too many proud Ohioans. Happy new year to all Ohio ice fishermen!
