Thanks for the reply! Is there a bunch of debris floating down the river right now?

If the jig is a high quality made in America jig, then I would say it would be worth buying. I try not to buy cheap jig, because they are not nearly as well made in my eyes. Many times the hooks are too flimsy, and the paint jobs on them look like a kindergarten class finger painted them. A Jig that looks good and has a strong hook on the business end makes it worth it to me. I by no means have a ton of money to my name, but depending on quality of the jig I think it’s worth the money. I am not one to risk losing a big fish due to me gear either though.

Very nice fish. I caught a 54″ yesterday that went 37 lb so I would say that over 40 would be a good estimate. Congrats to your son.

I just started casting cranks at wingdams last year and have had a blast doing it. The only problem I have found is that I seem to loose a lot of cranks because the rocks are just too sharp. I was just wondering what kind of line you guys like to use when casting wingdams with cranks and also is a baitcaster or spinning gear better? Thanks for any help. I am sick of loosing $7 cranks even when I re-tie every 10 to 15 casts.

Thanks for the info guys. Well turns out that my partner can not make it this weekend any more though. Really sucks I was really looking forward to this trip. I guess the sturgeon excursion will be my first trip up there. Anyone have an open seat for the Rainy saturday or sunday or both? I would be willing to split bait and gas with ya.
    Thanks. Steve 507-421-4068

I’m on the waiting list as a co-angler. Any pro looking for a co-angler let me know.

Man I am sure getting excited for this. I will be up there with two others this year. This is all of our fist times ever fishing sturgeon, or being on the rainy in general so wish us luck. After reading all of Jonny P reports I had to go out and buy another rod and spool it up with some mono. 30 LB big cat to be exact. Can’t wait to see everyone up there.

Used to have one on our old boat. The one we had used a cable instead of a strap to crank the boat up. The cable cut up the front roller on our trailer pretty bad. Also the one we had you had to tighten like a big wheel by the hand crank and that would slip sometimes on longer trips so we would have to stop and tighten it even if we had the straps on due to the front end of the boat bouncing. For us it took longer to get the cable out and get it rigged up than it did to just hand crank it. I’m sure there are some nice ones out there but the one we had I would not recomend. Just my 2 cents.

Got her on three or four fat heads broken in half. Couldn’t get ahold of any fresh cut bait and didn’t want to spend the money to buy suckers, so I figured that was the next best thing.

Those are some nice fish. Only make it out twice so far this year and it had to be from shore. Here is one of the better ones i’ve got though
