I love sturgeon. What a blast when they break water and do their thing on top. Great fish and pic. Never heard of them taking a live bullhead.

Just found out my part is back ordered and will not be available until June 17. It also tells me this little bitty part likes to grenade. SOO I’m shore fishing until then.

It bugs me that I have to spend more time thinking about how I’m going to pay for a trip than thinking about fishing, gear and boats. A recent trip to Pool 4 cost almost $200 for fuel. Outboard was broke down so didn’t even get on the water! I’m currently looking at burning used motor oil in my pickup. Some up front costs, but then nearly a free ride. Daily costs are just eating us alive.

Locally, I’m going to start kayak fishing.

Thanks for trying to help guys. I have a really good mechanic in town but no parts. Dealer went under in the economic fall out. Maybe Charlie can help me diagnose it so we can get the right part the first time.

I have used single hooks with tubes for years and had no trouble catching cats. No need for a treble. Just makes it harder to get the hooks out. There is a real problem with stink baits anyway as cats usually swallow the hooks and are difficult to catch and release because of mortality. If they are hitting stink bait, they really pound it.

When I was there Tuesday, the north ramps were both gone, the water was at the base of the house. I watched a guy back a 30′ 5th wheel trailer through 8″ of water to get it to the north end where he parked it. I was sure hoping the river had not decided to gobble up the lane that was under water. He made it through and parked.

Fish? I don’t know. I had so many mechanical problems I did not make it out. Jim said the fish were biting for what that is worth.

One thing that struck me though was that the water was relatively clear. It was stained but not muddy and there was little or no debris in it. Oh ya, there was plenty of it.

Thanks for the replys. I’m coming down what ever so I might have to learn a little high water fishing. Not my strong point, but if you don’t try it you can’t learn what to do. I’ll be around Tuesday all day and Wednesday morning.

Watch the flow when you shut down and if the water “steams” you are having water flow problems and probably need an impeller. If not, bore out the hole as mentioned above.

It would be very interesting to see a DNR officer try to explain to a jury why a tube worm was not an artificial lure.

I’m getting itchy too. I have been tied up all winter working on a diesel pickup after a guy busted my old one up. Got her ready to tow for the season and getting twitchy to put a rod in the water. How wild is the water now? I’m thinking end of the month at pool 4 if the river can ever calm down.

Well, that was you BK. I just got my copy yesterday. Glad to see a familiar face that actually knows how to fish. Way to go!

X2 on the line. Way too much credit is given to other parts of a team when in fact no one does anything in football without a good line. The guys up front do the heavy lifting. The skill positions do the clean up work whether on offense or defense. #28 will get you more yards but a solid ball keeper will get you plenty if the line opens up the holes.

X2 I don’t know of any method of lubing the inside race except to pull the seal and actually open it up.

Those 8″ rims run about 3000 rpm when you are going down the road and frequently carrying their max load or even over. Also torque the bolts while you are at it. I torque mine every time I head more than 20 miles from home. There is nothing quit like watching one of your tires run ahead of you down the road while you are driving.

You’re making my mouth water buzzer. Get on that pond in the spring with a fly rod and some poppers and you will wear your arms out.

My quarter mile drive way is a mess, but the highway is open and traffic is moving at legal speed. Have to make the first little step if I don’t fall on the way to the garage. Snow is reduced by at least half and the snow on the barn roof went from 14″ to 4″ and is probably just a slab of ice.

    South Carolina for February.

Happy New Year everyone. The FW and I are both working this evening. I’m hoping this coming storm doesn’t keep us from getting home.

    Lots of good football tomorrow.

X2. I have seen him in person a few times and almost always had a smile on his face. When I first moved to Minnesota, the old Met had targets painted on the seats of his longest homeruns. It was pretty awesome. If you were a kit that played baseball, it was hard to imagine someone could hit a ball that far.

Me too Matt. Red River around mid May. Hold on tight, your going to need it. 100 fish days aren’t out of the question. If you have never been there, don’t wait. There is nothing like it. (Except maybe a huge sturgeon.)

Adjuster coming tomorrow. They are talking total loss and that is just wrong. Windshield, one fender, mirror, bumper, grill, and one headlight assembly. That’s a total loss? No wonder rates are so high.

Switched from Direct TV to Dish a couple years ago because Direct TV kept offering huge discounts to new customers and nothing for the folks paying their bills every month. When they found out I was leaving, they practically had a conniption fit. Said we could have given you that price. I said, but you didn’t and you never even offered it. We have been real happy. Seldom lose a signal.

You betcha, good thing nobody was hurt. Felt sorry for the guy who lost it. He just didn’t have a chance. Really felt bad about it.

Right now, the problem might be the insurance company wanting to low ball me on the truck. I checked the internet and can’t find a truck like it within 500 miles. Diesel crew cab pickups are over the moon. I have to have one to pull the 5th wheel and boat. I got along without a crew cab, but I don’t want to.

Anyway, it is just bent metal so that can be fixed. Lucky for us that big pillow of snow kept anybody from getting hurt. There were plenty of witnesses, but not a one stopped. Others did later, but not the folks who saw it. Luckily, the other guy told the same story to the highway patrol I did, so there should be no question of liability.

$2,000 so far this month for diesel parts, but I’m really getting some yabadabdo in it.

I’m too old to be learning how to bolt things to diesels laying in the gravel in the barn at 11 F. I’m doing it anyway. Keeps me young.

My wife and I work On Call only when the staff is down to the bare bones and just has to have help. Lately that has been a lot, I’ve worked more in the last month than in the last three months combined. If I didn’t work some, a lot of people would never get a day of vacation.

Really good part is they pay me the same wage I retired at and I can say no anytime I want. During the winter, I’m storing up nuts for the road trip to South Carolina in February and the summer fishing trips. (Diesel parts too.)

I got that way about hunting partially because I was too good at it. I became a killer instead of a hunter. Had to be rock steady for the shot, no emotion, bang dead.

Catch and release is possible and highly desirable in fishing. Makes it much more fun. Love to catch big ones and see them swim away after a little exercise.

I haven’t been posting much lately because I’m rebuilding my diesel pickup. However, if you will look at the time of many of my postings, they come about that time of day. As I get older, my sleep patterns get crazier and crazier.

IDO has helped me make it through many a night. Where else can you find so many good folks in one place?

I think fishing is better without a doubt. Pan fish being the exception. When was the last time you had a bucket full of jumbo Lake Perch? Sunfish and crappie have also suffered. At least part of the reason for that is we fish the beds when they are breeding and take out the large breeding fish.

Catfish, sturgeon, no question fishing is great. Catch and release has completely changed fishing from when I was kid in the 50’s. We kept everything we caught back then because it put meat on the table. We also had less available time to fish and no electronics. The drag on your reel was your thumb. Pollution was so bad in the Mississippi River you hardly wanted to put your hand in the water. Fish below the refinery tasted like they had been dipped in kerosene.

Things are lots better now. They can and probably will improve. What a great thought.
