I was driving ATV 2 days ago, today I would not. 50° wind has been killing the ice as we speak. Dark blue areas forming with swans, walked out yesterday, the hole I was fishing by sounded like running faucet the entire time.. previous tip up hole was 3x bigger. Top 7″ honeycomb soft white ice.. start wearing life jackets if you go out on this lake.

Top of ice soft here. Always the last lake to freeze because so deep. Wondering if that means last lake to thaw lol. Being we get maximum sunset our side I’m guessing my landing will melt faster then the west side.

20″ of clear ice everywhere I’ve checked this year. Might have to make an extension for my auger if it gets any thicker.

I live nearby. Had the sleeper shack on little lake. Usually do good with crappies over there. Nothing but pike this year, and one 12″ in my photo. Spent 3 nights out there during the week after the crowd leaves. Still not much luck, moved house to 2 different spots that have always produced, sat out all day and night. So now I’m on the big lake. There is at least 20″ of ice everywhere I’ve checked. Trucks and castles out in the middle. Tracks everywhere. I’m scouting some spots with portable. In the summer, there is schools of minnows that swim under docks. Walleye are hard to catch on this lake. I caught a 7″ the other day off minnow plain hook.
