I’ll be at our cabin every other weekend throughout the summer.
Going to hit the usual haunts on Rainy and check out a few nooks and crannys I’ve never been to, much farther northwest than my usual places.

The bays I typically work are Rice, Moran’s, Swell, and Grassy Portage. Occasionally I’ll meander over to Commisioner’s or head up to Crowrock and Redgut.

If those aren’t producing and we have time, we also hike a bit farther north to Big Sawbill lake and pull a lot of Perch and big Pikes.

    Some nice catches there.

I was on Rainy that same week.

Since none of the usual haunts were producing we did a lot of exploring. Caught a few here and there while dragging bottom in the middle of the bays.

Going back for another 10 days in a couple weeks. Hopefully the water temps have dropped and the fish are moving again.

Nothing in my neck of the woods.
A bit soggy, but no ice.
From the looks of things we didn’t dip below freezing last night.

    Hi Chris.
Just curious, how much snow y’all have up there?

We’ve a cabin on Grassy and been thinkin’ about making a wintertime trip this year.

I’m at the opposite end of the state and the water is just starting to thicken. Don’t even have shoreline ice yet.

The Crappies are still on the move, eh?
My wife and I were at the cabin on Grassy Portage Bay last week. Fishing was slow but steady but I did pull up some good sized Crappies. Rather odd to be pulling Crappies from Grassy in late August/early September: Usually they bugger out of that bay by mid-June. Grassy’s not overly deep and it heats up quick (comparatively speaking).

I was using a chartreuse little joe with no sinkers. I had better luck skimming the surface than going deep.
