I have a Buckhorn Mag myself, definitely not the most weather resistant. I’ve had to scrub surface rust off mine several times. As far as shooting I keep putting off really dialing mine in but have acceptable accuracy with a couple pyrodex pellets and 250gr sabots. Being a CVA they do shoot pretty well with power belts as well as the CVA/Powerbelt relationship is definitely part of the marketing.

Have you ever looked at your property on OnX or one of the other hunting mapping apps? It doesn’t excuse trespassing and removing signs but some people hold the way the lines look on those aerial photos as the literal line. Just a thought might be worth looking into see if it’s showing portions of your property as open public land when it isn’t.
The vandalism and theft isn’t justifiable in any way and hopefully the Sheriff’s Office there can hold somebody responsible.
December 14, 2021 at 9:55 pm #208153925-06 was my choice for my first true deer rifle. Mine prefers the 117gr Hornady SST Superformance rounds currently. It was between a 7mm-08 or the 25-06 for me when I was looking and I found a 25-06 first. The 7mm-08 would have probably been a bit more versatile being able to shoot a bit heavier bullets but I guess that leaves me something else to buy someday.
May 4, 2021 at 10:19 am #2034523I’m no expert, as this was my first year hunting turkeys but both my bird and my buddies came in similarly and off of private land into the public we were on. Bounced around public properties calling until we struck a gobble once we had one that gobbled we moved in to around 150-200yds and set up. Then called just enough to get a gobble and would wait 5-10min in between. My bird came in after about 45 minutes of that process and his came in after over an hour. Both birds were in groups of toms. Mine was a 10am bird and his was at 9am.
May 4, 2021 at 10:12 am #2034519A little late but had a Season A WI tag this year and harvested my first gobbler the second day of the season. Having never experienced the turkey woods before it was an awesome experience to listen to those first light gobbles.

December 9, 2020 at 12:19 pm #1995687Sounds like a heart wrenching way to spend the gun season. I have to ask though if the road hunting and trespassing/vandalism are that heavy have you filed any complaints with the DNR or Sheriff’s Office? You can’t guarantee they will catch the individuals, but having a documented complaint in the area gives deputies a reason to drive the area more.
As for the gut shooting and lack of recovery effort, that I can’t speak for in any good terms. Lazy, ignorant, trash, unethical are a few that come to mind that don’t need censoring. All that can change that is a fundamental shift in the mindset of certain “hunters”. I think certain rifle platforms that are increasing in popularity in the deer woods have some of the blame to, not so much a totally insufficient caliber but more so the mentality of I have lots of bullets so I’ll just shoot them all, eventually something will fall down.
August 5, 2020 at 6:36 am #1962896Forgot to post a report. Fishing was tough we found some good meals worth of perch so we didn’t get today skunked but never found any walleyes or other panfish. I honestly don’t think I saw more than a handful of bluegills the whole trip and definitely didn’t catch any. MDs Bait and Pawn shop is definitely a go to place.
June 30, 2020 at 7:31 pm #1953786I still love to hunt, but I don’t have that much desire to film / host it. It just gets to be too much work and I have found that I would rather just enjoy the limited hunting time I get and not try to film. A lot of the terrain I hunt in northern MN isn’t very conducive to filming anyways. Lots of sitting with very few deer sightings! I think THP does a great job keeping their content entertaining and real at the same time! I could see filming a one off here or there based around a specific destination hunt.
Makes sense to me.
June 30, 2020 at 2:41 pm #1953705I think the house we have rented is actually on Andrusia Lake, so will probably start there work my way out Cass.
Anybody have a highly recommended bait shop in the area?
June 30, 2020 at 8:44 am #1953578I’m glad someone else was thinking this I was almost going to post it myself. I think it’s awesome to see the “small world” that is Outdoor Entertainment. Also fun now to watch the Midwest Whitetail stuff Pat filmed knowing he now hosts a predominantly fishing series.
Pat if you see this, is the draw of filming/hosting hunting still there or have you found fishing is where you want to be? We all enjoy watching you on IDO.
May 21, 2020 at 6:00 pm #1944002A handful of small grays in central Wi last night, checked plenty of trees just nothing there.
May 10, 2020 at 3:35 pm #1941438Not all “pros” but these are the guys and scenarios I’d jump to fish with.
Jay Siemens or Clayton Schick for ice fishing lake trout (both on YouTube).
Any of the IDO crew for a day chasing tanker Idaho or Dakota’s perch through the ice.Open water I would say any of the IDO crew for a day of muskie fishing, I’d take a fall trip vertical jigging. I’d fish with Al Linder for walleyes or big panfish.
April 2, 2020 at 9:59 am #1930035Had the boat out on several lakes yesterday in Central Wi, last day on ice for me was last week.
October 24, 2019 at 3:03 pm #1886744Sitting in the ground tonight, sat here last night and had a doe come through just didn’t give me the shot I wanted. Hoping with the overcast skies they move earlier tonight.

October 6, 2019 at 5:12 pm #1883078Ended up in same place as last week, had intended to hunt new areas but found one too swampy with no fresh sign and the other I swear had a tornado hit it earlier this summer. Two does so far that trotted through out on the field.

September 28, 2019 at 3:01 pm #1881418Evening sit of my first day of bowhunting (ever), sitting in a place I’ve had success in the past. Morning hunt was uneventful.

September 28, 2019 at 2:59 pm #1881416As mentioned above any decent 3-9×40 will work don’t fall for the “muzzleloader” specific. I have a Barska 3-9×50 I just mounted on one of mine this year and so far so well with range visits.
August 19, 2019 at 9:34 am #1874353Trail cams are never the “best images” and I find myself split in my opinion for the reasons below.
1- looking at the front of the animal you can see the inside of the far front leg and appears to have patterning which is bobcat. Pattern is very faint or non existent elsewhere though
2- the ears have me thinking mt lion. They are blurry in photo but seem more rounded, and also the dark backside. Google images of “Mt lion head” has several images where the backside is darker and also starts to show some white markings.
3- height it appears to be touching most of the undergrowth, but without a true scale I don’t know how tall that is so it could be either.
Do you have any other images? We can’t see the tail which is always a definite answer between bobcat and mt lion.
April 7, 2019 at 11:16 am #1848880Thanks, it’s not the most easy to read but I think I can figure some of it out.
February 26, 2019 at 8:22 am #1838614For any other metal heads I suggest doing a you tube search for frog leap studios, you won’t regret it.
I’ve got pretty much all I can find of Leo on Spotify in my playlist, have enjoyed his spin on things.
My most frequent playlist covers from A7X and FFDP to Lindsey Stirling and Blue Man Group. I pretty much just don’t do rap or pop. New “country” is also pretty low on my list.
January 17, 2019 at 2:45 pm #1826891Wilderness is probably one of the best winter options. Four different waterparks plus an arcade and other non-water related things to do. They have definitely capatilized on full calendar year.
December 21, 2018 at 8:22 am #1819539I use a 6in lazr auger with the adapter and have had no issues. I don’t own a Ryobi but based on the torque and battery size it should be just fine. I recently was able to try out the Eskimo pistol bit of a friend’s and I have to say I was impressed. It weighs next to nothing and cut very smoothly. It’s still “early” ice here in central wi so we only had 6-7 inches of ice but it cut with ease. Again this was the 6in bit though.
In my opinion 6in will do most anything you could need unless your a serious tip-up guy who targets big Pike and walleye on a regular basis. The 6in will also put less wear on the drill.

November 15, 2018 at 10:18 am #1810222I just realized my photos of groups needs to be rotated 90 degrees to the right that second group was about 1in high at 100yds.

October 30, 2018 at 5:38 pm #1806765Bucks in Stevens Point area are in full swing. Just watched a 150in buck breed a doe 25yds off the road.
October 30, 2018 at 11:59 am #1806698Well finally got the scope to the range. Within 4 shots I was where I wanted it to be. And the rifle still shoots fantastic.
I like the reticle of this scope alot the “floating” center is very nice for seeing the dot I’m aiming at. I will need some practice with an adjustable parrallax scope as this is new to me but I’ll get the hang of it. Glass was super clear for me easily able to see holes in paper at 100yds.
Now the next steps are: 1- get hunting with it and 2- go out and find a place over 200yds to shoot at.
