The wind is going to go down. I replied to you when you were inquiring about devils lake. You should go there now because truck traffic will be good. A bad day on devils will still get you bigger perch than ur gonnna catch at big stone…get up there and explore nothing shallower than 35 fow. Best of luck to ya.

I only use I-fish pros now and I love them. Wind is not an issue while using them and the raised end when placed correctly blocks a lot of snow that’s blows across the ice. I use tucr deadsticks and usually run a fuse or braided line on my reels while fishing them. Mono doesn’t behave well in wind and cold having the bail open. Unless ur using a bait runner then there is no issue. Good luck…

Go with the lx3. At least you will have a moveable zoom which is a nice function. I use an lx3 as a back up unit and I love it.

I could puke cause I have never had a problem with my LX7. How shallow do you people fish? I have ran mine in under 5 fow and had no problems after making a few adjustments. A person should have to make adjustments in that shallow of water! I had vexilars for 10 years before this and they sucked in shallow water also! Mainly because you couldn’t adjust them like you could a marcum…. Go fish laugh

I have both of them and like using either one. But the tuned up has a better backbone for fighting fish. The TB rod is good but too much of a spongey noodle type action to it. I use it mostly for panfish and the tuned up for larger fish. Hope this helps…

Congrats man! I would love to get one, but if I got one more ice auger I would be in divorce court… sad

Take the unit out of the bag, go to the hardware store and purchase some Velcro tape and run it around the circumference of the soft pack on the inside. Do the same on the shuttle and insert in soft pack problem solved. Mine fell out a couple years back and scarred the heck out of me also. Good luck.

We are going out in the morning and I’m really impressed with the ice here… It’s a big change from SD! We drove for 4.5 hours to find ice,we tried a couple lakes and finally ended up on a lake pushing 7 inches of ice. I’m glad gas is cheap again…

I came up here on you’re advice, we found 6 inches of ice and some perch… Why do you want to go elsewhere in coming back next weekend. I’m in love with North Dakota right now! Zzz…

I’m going to be on ice next weekend even if I have to wear a life jacket. There is a lot of small lakes frozen over here with 1-2 inches of ice… But we are in the danger of big snow fall again and that could be problems for early ice here in SE SD. 6″-10″ looks pretty promising by Tuesday. That’s terrible for making new ice flame

I have both and what I like about the tuned up is the fact it is not such a noodle rod. The Thorne rod has a much softer tip and lighter backbone. The Thorne rod is the one I use for panfish more because of this. I usually fish with both rods in my otter rod holders. Don’t get a split grip on you’re rod either cause they don’t set in the holder well. The tuned up handles bigger fish better due to having more backbone.

I will start by saying it performs better than the Thorne bros. dead stick. I have used it for slip bobbers, hung it in my otter rod holder, hell, I’ve even jigged with it a couple times… It’s a great rod!

Bill is spot on! The 500’s are plenty. I have a 1000 series shimano Stradic that I’m going to pair with a TUCR’s commander 38″ rod. The 32’s you’re describing are perfect with any of the shimano 500 series reels. Good luck shopping!

I switched in 2012 and I now have two of them!, LX7 and LX3. They are great units and you will love using them. I too had a vexilar for 15+ years and now I wouldn’t dream of going back. I added the lithium ice force battery and you loose half of the weight. Well worth the money. Now If it would just freeze over so we could get on with things out there wink

I have a beautiful used snowmobile that I would like to see gone cheap. I gave up riding a few years ago and kept it around for ice fishing. I have a couple of them and like using my Atv lots more cause of no snow cover ever present anymore here. It has fairly low miles and I have lots of extra parts for it. The problem is I’m in SD and that’s probably too far away… Unless you would like to try an ice outing here whistling

Joel and crew, our group had a great time up there. I for one would definitely come to another GTG. Fishing was a little slower than I expected but I got to meet a lot of good people. I even made some new friends while there. I regret to see my ice season end but I guess it’s time. Ballards was great! I can not say enough good things about our guide Kyle, he works hard up there! Thanks for the good time everyone and I’m anxious for next year. Nick

Hey Andy, I ran into you on Saturday when you got to town. It looks like you got into them! We ended up with six. Had to sort a lot of small ones. You missed the excitement at cedar shore, someone tried to launch their boat in the landing there. He got hung up on that ice and was down there for over an hour. People on shore were taking pictures on their phones. That ice was a little thicker than the guy thought I suppose. Well, any ways nice to meet you and maybe will see you around in the future…good luck on you’re next trip out. waytogo

Myself and two co-workers are heading up there. I cant wait to get up there for the first time! This was perfect timing, since the ice in SD is going to crap. I’m forced to fish open water on the Missouri River this weekend just to get me by. bawling

I have the resort. Think of it as a four by eight sheet of plywood in the shape of a bathtub! It is a phenomenal shelter but if you don’t have a trailer, go smaller! Also don’t try to hand pull it. That’s why they make smaller ones! I also have the cabin and the cottage they are more practical for solo trips.

Chad, how did you mount it in a resort without the seat rail? I too have a resort and was wondering how to do it? I just have the aluminum individual seat brackets…

Thanks for your help James! I am going to talk to the guys at work tomorrow and probably will go that route. That seems about as full service as we are going to find. Hope I see you up there when we arrive. Never fished LOW before. I am kind of in charge of this trip so if I pick LOW that’s where we are going. It should be a big change from SD lakes…
