If your tip ups ever get hot, you should have some slender spoons ready.. absolutely deadly for walleye, pike, or bass. Used to be talked about a lot more (found them through an IDO video), but are still very effective for me!

I can also attest to Portavilla’s spot on service. They did a great job putting us on a fish and were friendly and helpful all weekend. Not to call out JD, because slip ups happen and I would have been frustrated too, but for everyone else they would be at the top of my list if you are looking for a guide/rental service on red.

I have ice fished all of the big lakes in MN during the past two years, and would have to say LOW, NW Angle Side without a doubt! For guide service, i would start by checking out the Red Fox Guide service but they are pretty spendy. There are lots of 1 man operation guides up that way as well, and any one of them will put you on fish. I have never seen such a steady stream of 20+ in eyes, and the wilderness and overall experience of the angle is second to none. good luck!

We were also out yesterday. Using an older model of boat, man that current was tough. Went all day without a bite and had some difficulty putting the boat on the trailer. I guess you are only learning when you have days like that! anyone have any ideas how to approach that strong of current with darkish water? or should i just stay home next time..

While i understand the frustration, saying the dog is more important than him making out is a little insensitive. That is someones family that escaped a tragedy, even if he should not have been out on the ice yet.

Doesnt apply directly to your post since you are going tomorrow.. but i was there today and they had a “dollar a dog wednesday” deal going on which i thought was pretty cool when they usually charge five bucks. worth to keep in mind for next time. and for cheap, good food in the metro area i would hit up a raisin canes chicken place. 7 bucks for a quick and tasty meal. have fun

So are you saying that the fishery is on its way down because 1)the walleyes are TOO BIG and 2)you cannot eat the fish you catch?

I may be misunderstanding your post, but if that is the case I say keep it coming! You can fish the other thousands of lakes in the state to attempt to catch eater walleyes, and on mille lacs or any nearby lakes you can find abundant panfish that are delicious in the fry pan. IMO if you have a resource with incredible fish, a true fisherman will appreciate it with or without the opportunity to eat them. I would much rather catch big fish I have to release than see the walleyes get smaller (and then progressively less numerous as more get eaten). I am 19 so have minimal exp, but 3 of the 4 biggest walleyes of my life came on Mille Lacs ice fishing for ONE WEEKEND last winter and i wouldn’t have traded a single one of those memories for a 17 in eater i chase around all summer. .. sorry for the long post, not attempting to be rude.. just my honest opinion.

I will be down monday fishing out of Bay City. Running raps through the channel on the other side of the river out of the landing.. what are you guys trying, has anything been hot?

When you guys refer to “bleed them out,” how do you do it? I have always just thrown them on the ice as is.. does bleeding them out make the fillets significantly better?

Just your standard 1/16-1/4 painted gumballs. But its not just about the jigs. This time that is what I need specifically, but next time or for someone else any fishing sites might be helpful!

I was on pepin on Friday and attempted to use this tactic. We caught alot of fish, especially towards dark, but they were all of smaller size. Ranging from 12-15 inches. Does anyone know why this might be, or what structure of shorelines we should target to find bigger fish?

To the people out there saying we should trade him “if” we get a third, you are quite mistaken. this guy was in the mvp discussion, had exactly one drop in 81 targets, is easily our second best player, and is only 24 years old just figuring our how to run routes. think a more explosive wes welker going forward.. unloading him without getting a significant haul would be a huge mistake. even a late first will not compensate for what he brings to the table.. sit him down, give him his $, tell him to shut up and play. him and Ap can keep our offense in the top 7 on them alone for a long time.

The largest amount of that debt is owed to nations like germany and china. These nations have no intention to actually collect this money, however, because we are easily their largest national market. As long as the american economy maintains small growth (as it has) we will maintain this status, and be fine. Their would be no use in attemtping to collect our money when the current system pays these nations much better and more consistently.

I was using an sr-7 perch rap with an orange belly, and my friend was using an sr-5 with a maroon top and white belly. we had various speeds, but because we were trying to fish so close to shore we actually trolled along the shoreline, while casting directly onto the sand beach and then reeling it back to the boat. therefore the speed had little affect on the actual fish.

another surprising spot is baseball fields. for 24 hours after a solid rain the traps covering the mound and plate are usually loaded with big crawlers-and coaches love for anyone to get rid of them!
