Nice report Mike. Getting out tomorrow for some pitching and dragging long shorelines. Looks like conditions are decent for both.

Well written indeed…I need to expand my trolling into some of these other methods and this provides perfect jump-off information.
June 30, 2011 at 3:00 am #977368Good job and congratulations on your success so far. The high water certainly can be challenging.
February 28, 2011 at 2:38 am #942134I can answer some of those…
1. Same to slightly higher than today.
I did put in today. I put in yesterday too….BRRRRR!!!
2. Fish are always biting someplace.
3. Likely jigs. The question is whether meat is needed or not. Jigs/Hair or Jigs/Plastic will work.
4. If we are talking Everts…YES!!!Not only that, but your friendly staff at Everts will have the most current details on colors and presentations that will give you the best chance at success.
December 16, 2010 at 1:53 am #917587To heck with ice…Hey Dean, are conditions out of Everts looking good for the open water bite?
I’m dying to get back on the water again.

November 16, 2010 at 3:25 am #909957I’ve been out with Dustin, James and Steve Duzurik on guided trips and always came away with a lot of knowledge that would have taken years to learn on my own. Anyone serious about shortening their learning curve should check into a trip with the IDO guides.
November 11, 2010 at 1:42 am #908994Dean, we’ll be down your way to visit and fish in good time…once the water hardens up here on P2. Now that my fall home improvement project has transitioned to a putzier stage, my fall fishing trips are going to get much more frequent. Last weekend sure was fun up here.
November 8, 2010 at 2:50 am #908416It was good shaking the cobwebs loose after a month of home improvement and a weekend of pheasant hunting mixed in. Joel thanks for being the captain on Saturday. Glad to reciprocate today.
August 21, 2010 at 12:42 am #894730Janel caught a 27.5″ walleye on P2 last Sunday…her personal best (for now).
She won’t let me post the pic though.
July 11, 2010 at 6:11 pm #885937Yep…very nice fish. My oldest has a nice 26″ a couple weeks back too. He has to go with me every time I go.
May 17, 2010 at 2:06 pm #872446Got out with my oldest son on Saturday AM too. Had this nice 22″ hit a ringie on a wingdam…Nice solid tap felt very good.
April 12, 2010 at 8:39 pm #863177With as much crap coming down the river (logs, brush, garbage, etc), we all need to just slow down and wear life jackets. A lot of the stuff is riding just below the surface and you can’t always see it.
Gear and life is too expensive.
April 12, 2010 at 8:24 pm #863174I got to meet Thom Beers, the executive producer, last spring. What a character!!! He greeted me with “How you doing f***er?”…It was priceless.
His company produces Deadliest Catch, Monster Garage, Ice Road Truckers and many other shows…he pretty much put Discovery Network on the map and beyond just airing animal/nature programs.
When he calls a staff meeting, he gets on the intercom and says, “F***ers get in here!!!” and his staff come running.
April 12, 2010 at 2:38 pm #863038Actually…I didn’t want to bust my St Croix stick trying to hold the stick in one hand and lean over the side with heavy current and grab the fish with the other hand.
April 10, 2010 at 2:16 pm #862722I need one of these. It will be interesting to see how tight I can anchor on the Mississippi with heavy current pumping.

Thanks DD. How is the situation with the debris? Still coming down?
Some brush and an occaisional tree floating down. We noticed several cans missing from their normal positions. Could not tell if they moved or are submerged waiting to eat up a prop.
As usual for this time of year, DO NOT run full throttle as there are many hazards you may not be able to see.
Wear your life jackets!!!
As for the fishing…water temps in the mid-40’s and current seams set up very nicely. DD and I believe the fish will be more active during the middle part of the day…it was quite cold when we launched at 6AM and still chilly when we had to pull off at 9AM. Some spots you will need 3/8 oz or heavier jigs while other places you can get by with 3/16 oz. Pays to have rods set up for both strong and less strong current.
For us this AM, 3 hours to get it done after a month off the water just isn’t enough time to put a pattern together.
Will definitely be back this weekend
April 1, 2010 at 2:16 pm #859691So when you pull your rig into the end of the parade, the crowd will start cheering you?
I’ll cheer.
Better yet…make Jenine take that car to work .
March 31, 2010 at 2:26 pm #859253Mike, post the SSP phone number so I can call in there too.
Enough is enough…gotta get on the water.
March 17, 2010 at 4:57 pm #854521Time to break out my saltwater kelp-forest sinker collection…Dean, thanks for the heads-up on the angle and to Turk and River-Rat Randy for the tips/techniques.
March 17, 2010 at 4:38 pm #854515We get to take in a game on April 18th when my kid and the rest of his fellow 5th Graders from Red Pine Elementary get to sing the National Anthem before the game. Hopefully the weather cooperates.
