Due to the current situation please consider traveling across the state for a fish. The LOW area has very limited medical facilities and staff. A little sacrifice by each of us can go a long way.

    Thanks

Postmodern does some good stuff. One of the singers, Hailey Rienhart does some great stuff on her own.

    Bring tall boots

It’s firming up at night a bit as the temps are below freezing. Been cloudy so the daytime melt is a bit slower.

Good luck wherever you you end up going.

The weather we are having now looks to be the final touch to pretty much shutting down the lake. A few inches of wet snow already on the ground and high winds.

    Fireball in a plastic bottle

Oh….and an insulated Eskimo hub shelter. Don’t think the old flip over is going to see much action in the coming years

Good luck. It’s a mess and getting worse. Went out Saturday and the road we used was ok. You can’t drive off of a plowed spot. Was in the mid 30’s yesterday and slopped things up.
Friends are up fishing and decided to go out of a resort due to limited lake travel opportunities. The bomber they were in yesterday got stuck in slush.

Travel on the lake was definitely sporty this last week. Weather has been pretty stable for a few days so road should be opened up. There was a lot of slush pockets and probably still are. I wouldn’t advise anyone to go blazing a trail with a truck and a wheel house.

If it warms up like forecasted, next week should turn them on.

Have had chickens for over 30 years now. Great for kids to learn some responsibility of caring for an animal and having chores to do.

We’ve messed with many varieties and pretty much settled on Rhode Island Reds as the best overall bird. Great egg layers, hardy enough for northern MN winters and not a bad meat bird when it comes time to stew the old hens. Currently have about 20 hens and 2 roosters.

Been a few years since we had meat birds. Every time I think about raising some meat birds I sit down till the thought goes away.

Cochans can be a fun bird for kids. They also make great brooder hens. I think they will sit on a rock until it hatches. I’ve used them to brood my Rhode Island Reds as opposed to using an incubator.

Sorry for the delayed answer, been busy and haven’t had any internet time.

    Pat explained it well.

We use to go up to the angle fairly often but haven’t been up there in several years. It can be a pain do to the inconsistency in how the call in is handled.

Great scenery and fishing around the angle but the walleye action is pretty darn good close to home so we tend to fish the south side of the lake. In fact, time to go fishing now.

Yes there still is the no quota zone that are over the counter. Anybody that draws a tag and doesn’t purchase it by Aug 1st ( I think) those tags go on sale first come first served.

Grouse… I think your right about the NR pressure. There for a while it seemed like everyone was a bear guide around here. For $85 you could get a guide license that was good for 3 years. Charge $1,000 + for sitting on a bait for 5 days and the money starts to look appealing.

Certainly bear hunting and numbers have changed since we moved to MN and started hunting them 20 years ago. A look at the DNR stats should be concerning. Certainly seeing a lack of opportunity compared to previous years.

Getting tougher to get drawn anymore. We use to draw every year or at least every other year. Wife drew with 5 pts. Probably could have done it with 3. Applied just for a point a couple times because of kids weddings and we knew we couldn’t hunt those years with too much going on. We hunt area 12.

Not sure what to think of the bear management in MN.

Some more info on the Tundra.

The Tundra model does not have an odometer or hour meter so actual miles/hours are unknown. These are designed too work and for easy maintenance in the bush for trappers and outdoors people. They keep them very simple. They can be easily disassembled/reassembled and flown in pieces on bush planes.

I used it for trapping and ice fishing for a few years and the last several (10 years) it has only seen time on the trails around our property. My son did use it two times this year for ice fishing so it maybe saw 30-50 miles this year and around 15-20 miles a year prior to that.

The engine is a single cylinder and not sure on what size. Spec just says maximum power engine speed RPM 6900. The top speed is around 50 mph with an avg size person on it but it will pull a lot. The reverse works by pressing a button which stops the motor momentarily and then reverses the engine so no transmission is used. This eliminates weight and mechanics. If I recall the machines total weight is about 300 lbs. Tough to get it stuck but if it does it’s easy to lift and get out of powder or slush. Light weight makes it easy to load. I use to be able to lift the rear onto the tailgate and then pick up the front and push it into a truck.

It has been maintained and I run it every year even though it doesn’t get much use to make sure everything stays operating. Stored inside. Track is in great shape. Does have a cracked windshield, needs a taillight, and seat could use a new cover but the Gorilla tapes has held up well.

Can send more photos and/or video of it running via text if need be.

Haven’t been out but heard good reports as of yesterday. Some bigger fish being caught and a few sturgeons. Water level is manageable and not crazy with debri. Both Fork rivers have opened up. Only getting better.

Assuming you are crossing at the Warroad crossing, I’ve never waited more than a couple minutes either way. Canadian customs have always been polite and quick. Once you cross into Canada you’ll need to stop when you cross back into MN at the Angle and call back to the Canadian customs to let them know you are leaving Canada. Same coming back. US customs are usually the ones that will search. Have passports and no DUI’s or other felonies and you should be good to go. The road to the Angle is about 50 miles of gravel so consider that if your towing a boat. Haven’t fished with any of the resorts up there so can’t make any recommendations.

Sounds like you’re in a pretty good place. A James Holst bobble head might be all you need. If not, how about instead of receiving grifts you ask that a donation be made to an organization like Make A Wish so a young person can enjoy an outing, maybe even a day fishing.

These are original. They have not been burlapped or restle coated. Paint is original from Herters. Heads are all good. they have been used but are in good shape.

Price reduced to $220 shipped. I’ll be driving to the twin cities and Fargo next week and could meet to avoid shipping. $200 if we meet.

As of right now ice is in great shape. Very little to no snow on it so slick as snot. I’m hearing most fish being caught 20+ foot mark.

I spent 2 weeks up on LOTW in January and 2 weeks up there in February… I have over 40 lipless rattle baits and about 4 Plano boxes with assorted fluttering style spoons, slap style spoons, jigging raps, etc… Most productive “lure” was a VMC size 4 plain red hook with an 1/8oz split shot on a rattle reel… waytogo

In fairness, I did call in fish with a rippin rap (and caught fish with that) and caught fish on the Custom Jigs and Spins Slender Spoon (glow white, dimpled gold, bronze, and silver) in both 1/8 & 1/4oz sizes…

This! After 20 + years living on LOTW’s always a plain hook and something more aggressive near by. I’ve been big on the ripen raps lately but still use a Swedish pimple or castmaster with a minnow head

All is good on the ice. Not much snow on the ice for banking a fish house. Was -8 this morning and only warmed to about 6 above with a stiff wind today. Calling for -15 tonight. My son did really good up by at Stoney Point this past weekend. A buddy fished Cooker reef in a sleeper house with a couple out of town relatives and did okay. Another buddy fished the mud off of 5 mile and got several slot fish and some nice keepers. Wife and I caught a few in the 20 foot range on Saturday. Sunday morning we went out with tip ups and it was slow. Two flags in about 4 hours, nothing big.

Conditions should be really good this weekend, especially if the wind lays down a bit.

Instead of explaining why I’m against it, why don’t you guys give me one valid reason (beyond money) why to legalize Sunday sales.

    Freedom of choice.

You’ll be fine. Lake is in great shape. Single digits at night, maybe 20 today with no sun, and the run off from the thaw has stopped. Some access points got sloppy but all is good.

Heck there were 10+ semi trailers on the ice at the Warroad River today for a snowmobile race.

Fishing is only going to be getting better.
