Guess I should have said, Bacardi is my standard. And I don’t venture out much. Mount Gay is probably one I’ve had that I like the most. The wife had Kraken last year on vacation and liked that one.

Man you’re relentless Dutch. Why not just post every inflammatory news article on IDO? Oh wait you do….

The fact that posting this news release from our federal government is inflammatory to you says a lot.

    This is horrible!!

But please tell me what an 8 year old girl and two other children were doing playing in a park at 10:15 at night.

I grew up in the 70s in the country and we were not out at 10:15 at night.

Just stay away from WE HELP U PACK AND MOVE. I won’t go into it but it was a horrible experience on several levels.

My theory is as others have said “do what makes you happy”. But I will say, do it with a plan! Don’t do it if your living check to check or don’t have anything in savings. Don’t go on that vacation using credit cards then have to pay it off all the next year, just to go on another one the next year and have to pay for that one all the following year. All along paying interest as you pay those things off for a full year. This goes for all things…a vacation is just the best example I can come up with because I hear so many people on planes talking like this.

My wife drives a Lincoln because she wanted one. But we also max out our 401k, HSA, IRA, and still put money in savings every month. BUT we still buy lots of generic food brands because we don’t think the taste is much different. We don’t go out to eat because it is too expensive (and the wife cooks better anyway). I don’t have a $150 fillet knife because I think the 20 year old $8 Rapala works good enough. We bought a high end pontoon because that makes us happy every time we get on it.

The point is some things we blow money on and LOTS of times we (meaning I) pinch pennies. Buy the things that make you happy when you use them as long as you are doing it with future financial plans in mind.

Too many people buy ALL the things that make them happy then have no idea how they are going to pay for an emergency or retirement.

How could you not believe it?

We all saw that DOCUMENTRY several years ago. I think it was called “Men in Black”…something like that, can’t remember for sure.

There are in fact surplus refund checks coming. They are expected to arrive starting in September. They are subject to income thresh holds, as usual.

    EXACTLY!
We who have paid the most will not see a thing!!!…again!!!

I’m tired of working hard to be successful and getting penalties for it. Wife and I have worked hard to do well, don’t have kids, and pay close to 60% of our income so others can live off our teat. When they do over charge us they don’t give it back. They again give OUR money to someone else.

Building it or the knowhow will not be an issue. I was a framer for about 10 years what seems like a lifetime ago (I’ll just be moving a little slower than I used to). There just wasn’t any composite decking when I was still in it so my knowledge there is limited. Think I have a good handle on it now. Will probably go with Trex Transcend. Just need to go to a yard that has samples. NO WAY I”M PAYING TREX $5/per FOR A SAMPLE! Another thing that’s new to me is the flashing on all the joists/rims. Didn’t do that back in the day. Seems like a good idea though.

The Westbury railing seems like a good option as well. And not as high priced as I thought.

Now time to get some plans drawn up and submitted to the city. Time for this lake house to have a deck!

Go with Westbury aluminum railings if they’re needed and the styles fit. It’s super easy to install and work with.

I did notice this recommendation when this thread was new.

The railings will be my next thing I look into. Haven’t checked out Westbury yet, but will.

Keep in mind that there are different levels of Trex decking.

That was going to be my next question. Any thoughts on their levels? If we were to go that route it would probably be the Transcend line.

Also, with reading stuff online seems to be the consensus that Trex is more scratch resistant. Anyone confirm that?

Bringing this old thread back as I am getting ready to start a deck on our house.

The house was built in 1970 on a lake and no one ever decided to put a deck on to overlook the lake…crazy right?

Products and technology change so fast these days I just wanted to see if any of you guys that work with the products on a daily basis have any new opinions on what brand and/or product line is best and reasons why.

Any thoughts?? Anything change in the last couple years?

I have one (not sure brand) and several friends have one (not sure brands). They have them because they use them camping. We have one cause we drinks lots. lol

They all make cubes fast. But none make very hard or cold ice…yes some ice is colder than others. When you throw them in the freezer you’ll have to do some chipping to break them apart for cocktails as they freeze together. Not a big deal but just an FYI.

I did a TON of research last year and decided on Exmark. It seems to be what a lot of lawncare companies use. They use them because they are reliable. I got into their lowest commercial grade for 8k. More than what I wanted to spend but I wanted something quality that will last for years.

    May be worth a look.

The people that rag on Cane’s lines must’ve never actually gotten in one. That’s the beauty of Canes. All they have to make is one thing. Tenders. So they always have them ready. Even their sandwiches are made using their tenders. I’ve been in those lines around the block and I’ve had my food in less than 15 minutes because it moves fast. I won’t say it’s the best quality out there, but I like it better than Chick FilA, KFC and our crappy northern Popeyes.

But if we had real Popeyes, it wouldn’t even be a fair fight.

I appreciate other tastes but couldn’t disagree more. Have had Popeyes several times in Florida, Mississippi, Louisiana,…and others South of the Mason Dixon Line. Probably the WORST fast food I’ve ever tasted…wife agrees. Not sure why we keep trying.

I’ll volunteer to be the 4th wheel. We can…as you said…go to breweries. I have been to 327 around the world in 28 states and 7 countries. I’m always looking to go to more with alternate people.

    LETS DO IT! LOL

I should say, I didn’t mind the Wranglers at all. And I may just take the advise from a couple above and stick with them. Just wondering if there is something even quieter.

Not about to go out and deal with people on a St Ps day.

Doing fish and chips and Guinness at the house. Thought about bangers and mash but fish and chips are easier.

    Sorry Sharon!
I can’t seem to post pics! I tried twice. In fact when I tried to quote your post asking for a pic of the new tat, that post of mine wouldn’t even post. Most likely user error. I’m not all that savvy.

What I will say about my first experience is it was 3 1/2 hours that I did not enjoy all that much. Now it wasn’t the worst 3 1/2 hours I have ever spent but I do not think I want to do it again. I give props to people who have LOTS of them. But then again maybe I am just a “little girly man”!

I have a crock pot hash recipe where the base is hash browns. It is spectacular…in fact the wife just bought the ingredients yesterday. Going to make it today.

We travel a lot and have always used P&F. One time decided to use P&G. When we got there they told us they were pretty full and wanted us to leave our keys so they could move our car if they needed. “NO CHANCE!” was my response. We ended up parking at the airport without another reservation.

Been there twice but only fished once. Unfortunately don’t remember the captain. We did well though. Ended with (3) sails and I was the only one fishing… the wife was sick. Biggest was about 100lbs. Good luck, it’s a great fishery this time of year.

    I have netted a 55 and two 53’s. My PB is 50.

The majority of 50+ were November fish too so they were chunks. Crapped all over the boat. All the big ones seem to do this to us.

That’s funny. Didn’t know this was a thing. Mine from the other thread made a mess of the house we were in.

One of the guys started a video as soon as I said “get everything up”. But I don’t think it turned out.
