Totally color blind. I really struggle with computer monitors. Red letters in black background or vice versa cannot read. Yes stop lights are OK. I see only one shade of a light blue.
I never got my taste back from Covid got it during the pandemic.
My ritual is get up about 9am work nights hurry to shed hook up boat to truck. Pull out of shed. Wait in truck for 10 minutes. Get out and start rechecking line on rods. Sit back in truck wait another 10 minutes. Get back out and start to recheck tie downs bow strap. Sit back in truck wait another 10 minutes get out of truck go to house. Wife needs to put on lotion put clothes in the dryer. Do the checkbook wrap a present then may be ready in 10 minutes. Sit in truck for 30 minutes wife comes down. Finally get to lake its around 11am at this time “boy the bass just aren’t hitting very good” Could it be we should have been here earlier? Some questions in life will never be answered but I love every minute fishing with my wife. This happens every weekend for 3 days straight.
Slow weekend for me as well water temps 51. Gave up and tried for the eyes no luck there. As Fishthumper said light bumps and slow tactics. Done with bass going for eyes in the rivers or shore and than done.
Nice fish Gimruis! I tried to get out but the wind was to much at the landings.
I too did not do the best this weekend. Fish were very scattered most on weed edges but nothing biting good. Reaction strike lures seemed best water temp still at 72.
It was a rough weekend for me the bass were very scattered got most on Neko in 20 FOW. The snot rockets are nuts I lost 12 Pig and jigs this weekend. The temps were 70 degrees on the lakes.
Yes Gimruis Slime fest lost at least 100 bucks in lures. Wish they liked the cheaper ones
I used to turn the wrench for years. At my current job for 15th anniversary got the Dewalt set as a gift except for not having a 13mm wrench it’s my favorite set beats any Craftsman. Couldn’t stand Craftsman ratchets always used S and K cant find them any more. You’ll love the set.
Brand new Princecraft boat picked up at dealer. 1 block from the dealer rear-ended. Boat totaled bow of boat went right through the rear window of the Ford Taurus. That is a bad day. Never got a boat back that summer. Paid 6 months on a new boat I didn’t own to pay it off. Almost quit fishing that year.
Friday we went to our deeper lake wife and I got 35 bass mostly 2-3#. All on Ned’s. However we tried using some Z man Jerkshads. Man they loved those on the pop/lift up. All on a 20 foot inside weed edge. Saturday mid morning still a threat of rain went to another lake wife 0 I got 2 smaller pike and one real nice smallmouth bass on scattered weeds 12 FOW. Got hot and I started feeling the heat so we left. Sunday attempted to just fish from piers we didn’t make it long way to hot for this boy. Heatstroke as kid on the farm never got over it. Glad to hear others did quite well.
Fishthumper I’m right there with yah it was not the greatest weekend for fishing. To be honest I’m on this site for just this thread for bass. Reason being can’t stand social media and I know just by your names and reputations I can trust you guys/gals and like you it feels good to know when others are doing well and when it’s slow. Thinking outside the box and tactics you may not be thinking of using. Not catching fish can really mess with yah it used to really get me down now after years of fishing. Enjoy the good with the bad. As an old man said to me on a dock once always enjoy the fight of the fish you never know how long it will be till the next.
I’m with Fishthumper for some reason Saturday was horrible first lake got 1 pike There was a few “pro Fisherman out there as well” They weren’t catching anything either. Went to another lake not a bite so we decided to try for sunnies got 2 dinky bass on Flu Flu’s then within 5 minutes got dumped on with rain. Was off on Wednesday and went back to a new lake we tried earlier with the wife we got 30 bass all were just nice sized chunks. All on Wacky worms in the pads. Friday was ok got just a hand full of bass but the pleasure boaters got bad and we left. Sunday we went to a clearer lake known for lots of smaller bass. Fished a 20 FOW weed line inside edge did good all on Ned rigs Cutting a 5 inch Senko down to 3.75 was the ticket let it fall hard pop up and then they nailed it. Sure went through the wacky worms that’s OK! Again tried flat tails and Finesse style baits not even a nibble. Does anyone try minnow style baits for Ned? if so what kind/brand works best? Going to try some Zman bang sticks because there more buoyant.
I agree the Ned is slow and really not much fun in even sparse weeds. I really mess with lots of different plastics. My findings are the regular turd worm gets bit the least as craws for me seem to be better almost like a Texas rig as they usually hit it on the fall. Been messing with cranks some myself. Biggest issue is always trying to get the right running depth over weeds. Either too deep or snagging the weeds that are floating etc. I cast parallel to edge mostly just get weeds casting to the edge or fouled up. My favorite actually is a Countdown lure in a smaller size 7 usually. Once I get my count down I can cast out with more consistency.
Gimruis said it perfectly do not buy the Z man brand one touch with a pliers and the soldered barb snaps off. I prefer Eagle Claw brand sharp and the barb is good. I prefer a 5 inch senko worm trimmed to 4 inches roughly. My favorite is a 3 inch Berkley chigger craw in pumpkin or blue. You need to pop this one more if I try it on a regular ballhead jig I get nothing with the Ned jig head it really works for me. Have not had the best luck with wispy finesse style baits. I think it is the Z man bang stick looks like a turd worm but has small tentacles on it works well. If you try a minnow style bait it tends to catch panfish and walleyes as well. Gimruis is correct it really seems to add good numbers of fish but usually not the biggest.
Friday was a little slower for us about 10 bass 14 FOW Neko and Ned. The fish were very skittish. Later for my bride we went pan fishing got lots of sunnies and crappies surprised us for this particular lake. On Saturday we went to a lake only fished once glad we did a lake with some pads and bulrushes 3 feet out no weeds at all so we hit the pads and Wacky to the rescue we got 40 bass and most were 18-19 inchers wow that was fun. Then Sunday after church we got 15 bass on the same lake we were at on Friday it really slowed up once the jet skiers and waterski boats started up. Deep weed edge of 20 FOW positive the north winds haven’t been a great help water temps at 73. Mostly Ned rigs they wouldn’t touch the Neko go figure.
I got covid the first time around never got my smell back I do mean nothing. Been years now.
Mixed it up this weekend. First lake good defined weed edge all fish 5 feet in the weed edge Ned rigs and wife cleaned up with Neko rigs. Got chased off with the rain. tried 2 lakes that were dirty high water we could hardly scratch a fish so my brain kicked in we got off right away and went to clearer lakes good choice. We did quite well this weekend although we both thought the size of fish were much smaller than usual. Tried a new lake to us got 20 bass. Smaller lake but deep all on weed edge they were in 22 FOW. We didn’t push it any deeper as we release all our fish. To top it all off caught up with a fellow fisherman I truly respect was good to chat with him you know who you are . One thing we noticed is when Ned rigging it seemed like they wanted a small craw plastic or a fatter wacky worm cut to 3/4. They did not want anything with a finesse tail. Funny how that goes. Great to hear from all you guys. Nice fish Thumper!. Till next weekend.
I just wanted to mention and not to get off topic. The one thing that really helped my is using a tungsten bullet weight. I really can feel it and it is so different than lead. Thanks for all the help and advice on it as well!
On Sunday tried a different lake known for larger bass but not numbers. Wife caught 2 20 inch bass on Wacky worm. I got 2 as well same size on Texas rig they just slammed them. 5-7 feet of water just off some thin vegetation. 10 pike as well respectable sizes but after bass. What was odd it was windy and by 6 PM the mosquitoes were so bad in the boat we left even with the wind. All in all not to bad. Really loving the Texas rig as others said I try a Texas first if they don’t hit that its a jig and a pig/plastic. Amazing how they like one or the other day to day.
Tougher week again for me the bass are starting to set up on weed edges but all caught were on the edges but in the weeds. Mostly Neko and Ned rigging some on Texas rigs. 2 lakes we did ok clearer water. Then 2 lakes were dirty and high water did not do well and did not stay long. Waiting for the rain and Sunday won’t go out.
Boy what a week makes! Worst weekend yet. 4 different lakes all weed choked. No great defined weed edges fished slop, edges even tried pitching. We got 4 bass total. Struck out on 2 lakes very dirty the wind was horrid. Only went to lakes with landings on northwest side. Lakes I don’t know real well. Tried anyway those days drive you nuts.
Had a decent weekend yesterday fished the wind side it was rough but the wife and I got 49 bass. Some were tanks she used wacky worms. I’m still learning the Texas rig not sure if it was the right way but it got lot’s of fish tried a jig and nothing. I would cast it out and let it flutter down usually that’s when they would get it if nothing Just slithered it back in the weeds and got some as well used chigger craws mostly. The day before was about the same with the wife getting 2 Smallies she sure had fun with those and another bonus walleye 24 inch. All from 3-6 FOW. Was rough riding the waves back hurts today.
I found an old post I asked a few years ago and reread that apologies for reposting. Just couldn’t find it. However this time it worked great for me!
Again struggled to get on any this weekend between the wind and lightning it was not fun. Did get some bigger bass though about 100 yards away from the docks on Texas rigs.
