Just to follow up, another great fall trip up there. But for some reason I feel like the fishing is better when the weather sucks. It was really nice for the most part. Between 2 boats we managed a lot of smallies, with 13 breaking the 5 lb. mark. I think we picked up about 10 nice walleye, and one entirely too aggressive rock bass for the bait he ate. Oh, and a loon…

Since I’m not from up there, it’s not my place to say what should be done on the lake. But it’s amazing, and a little confusing, to me that you guys are on THE world class smallmouth lake (barring perhaps Erie), and want it managed for walleye. I guess it’s because I don’t eat fish…

That being said, we’ve done pretty good on walleye when smallie fishing the last couple years.

September to October is the best that it gets for smallies on that lake. I can not wait for that bite

In the last two years, this has become the week I most look forward to of the entire year. It really is incredible.

Awesome, thanks for the quick reply! I don’t want to ask for too much here, but I would welcome any advice you can give on presentations or locations, obviously…as well as any advice on places to stay. I’ve been up there one time perch fishing through the ice, but this will be our first “real” fishing trip up there. I’m sure we will have an excessive assortment of spoons, spinnerbaits, crankbaits, swimbaits, and everything else that moves. Thanks again!

…and can we all agree to call them crayfish?!?!?

Absolutely not! I don’t like crayfish or crawdads. It’s either crawfish, or if you are a real coonarse, they’re mudbugs.

So I take it that’s a no to the original question, nobody is catching and/or using live crawdads?

Thanks for the input, all. We ended up catching about 120 fish in 3 days, with 83 of those coming on Friday. Our group had two over 5 lbs, and lots of 3-4 lb. fish. If it hadn’t been for a starter failing and me running out of my best bait, we would’ve had a lot more. Overall, it was a great time, and I’ll definitely be back (hopefully before the end of the year). Thanks again!
