January 16, 2016 at 5:23 am #1592935Found anywhere from 6-10 on burntside no trucks or wheelhouse today at least.
January 13, 2016 at 9:54 pm #1592458Van vac only has 6-9 Mike? West end had 10-13 according to a buddy. He may coulda been drinking while reading his tape lol.
January 10, 2016 at 9:23 pm #1591350Northside always has bad ice plus the fishing is slow that way.
January 10, 2016 at 9:13 pm #1591343Heard slowbank has 7-9 burntside prob the same. Hope to have enough ice to drag the 18 foot wheelhouse out with the truck Friday. Should be a zoo out there as usual on the opener lol!
February 13, 2014 at 7:08 am #1388292Trout season is over march 31st in Minnesota. You can’t target trout when the season is closed.
February 13, 2014 at 7:00 am #1388288How about making a reality fishing show called wicked lakers. We’ll take the hardcore laker anglers from northeastern minnesota and have a battle for the most pounds of fish caught and bragging rights for a year lol.
February 12, 2014 at 11:34 pm #1388266Looks like tofte lake in the shallow back bay. Tofte used to have quality sized rainbows 3-7 pounders years ago. Something happened cause all u catch these days is lil guys.
January 31, 2014 at 5:58 pm #1384905I think the wild will be peaking as a team when the playoffs start. Very good signs from Granlund, coyle, niƱo, scandella, Fontaine, Cooke, kuemper, and even loafer boy no check heatley. Koviu and spurgen will be back after the break. I can also see adding another power forward to the mix before trade deadline. I can see no finish brodizak, haula and a draft pick getting sold for that gritty power forward we need. We will finish 6,7 or 8 and would like to see Chicago first round! We matched up well with that team this year. I can see us winning it all this year if we are healthy and a goalie steals a few playoff games!
January 29, 2014 at 10:48 pm #1384373I use tipups with old school black tipup line with a 10 pound leader. I don’t get freaky on rods my walleye rods handle 20 pound fish with ease with proper drag set. I’m usually fishing live bait, or catch what there feeding on. I’ve used fly patterns to chicken liver to catch these lake boss fish! When you figure out what there feeding on you’ll have success. Picked this LT up on live bait..i
January 24, 2014 at 10:42 pm #1382858Yea the lakers where snapping all weekend at a above average clip got alot of 4-7 pounders and this pig.
January 16, 2014 at 1:07 am #1380166I agree with you to still have action with walleyes mid winter, but the bite never has that consistent pattern as first ice and last ice. I frequently switch gears on bside&snowbank after the sun goes down and target walleyes. Sometimes they are stacked thick other times not a thing. Personally I think the Canadian Shield lakes have winter time walleye lockjaw. I do know for a fact from experience the 23-30 inch fish pretty much vanish after the ice gets 8+ inches.
January 16, 2014 at 12:51 am #1380165Nice gotta love it when lakers go on the prowl! I gotta wait till Saturday here in northern minnesota to tangle with lakers. Love waiting around for those line spooling kings of lake. Not alot of people have the patience or experience to pull alot of bruisers threw the ice. The wait is well worth fighting 20 pound fish by hand for 1-2 hours. Thanks for the post that was Knarly!
January 15, 2014 at 8:13 pm #1380144In all honesty if you want walleyes this time of year LOW, red would be your best bet. I’ve been fishing my whole life up here and there’s not a good bite after Christmas. I hammer them first ice and last ice. If you wanna tangle with big fish this time of year set up your lake trout stand on a arrowhead lake.
January 15, 2014 at 2:53 pm #1380055Yea I was doing good on white iron from November 20th to mid December. The walleye go into hibernation till late march.
January 14, 2014 at 7:47 pm #1379880Thanks for the offer I should be fine unless I have break threw the ice. If anyone you know who needs snowplowing done this winter on bside or slowbank or any other lake I’m available all winter till I have to go make hay in the spring.
January 13, 2014 at 1:50 pm #1379481I’m all geared up for LT season. Ice cabin is ready, portables cleaned and ready, plow truck is ready, and I’m chomping at the bit. Last year 18 pounds was the biggest with alot of 8-12 pound average fish. This year I’m looking at getting a 20+ for a wall.
January 5, 2014 at 6:25 pm #1377090I use live and dead bait rigs. I fish anywhere from 15-100 fow depending on time of year and the weather conditions. Lakers are real fun they tear line off, spool your tipups in 30 seconds and aren’t bad table fare! I’ve caught 20 pound fish on light tackle so you don’t need to spend hundreds of bucks on equipment. I like using tipups with 10 pound leaders.
January 2, 2014 at 8:06 pm #1376271This lake does have sporadic feeding binges. I never catch more than 2 walleyes in a run. Lake has tons of structure with a healthy forage of huge 5-8 inch shiners. I haven’t spent much time learning the lake but its definitely a ? Lake. I fish clear water in and out of the bwca with a consistent outcome. The walleyes in this lake almost act like lake trout.
January 1, 2014 at 5:16 pm #1375868Your welcome. Lake I fished has real clear water can see 22 feet down. I’ll post I report of sight fishing walleyes earlier this year at a later time. Saw some interesting stuff. Neutral fish sure like running with spilt shots in there mouth.
January 1, 2014 at 3:55 pm #1375843Bside had 12-14 of good ice not including the white stuff no slush at all. Think that’s the safest lake outside the bdub lines. Yea white iron, farm, garden are not the safest in the world. Bet your 9 turns to 20 by tomorrow. Save some slabs for me this spring
