Going to try and hit up Archery Country in the morning and see if they have one of the Lift RS in stock to try out. if they do and I like it after shooting it I might end up trading off my Lift 33 that I have now. like the RS based on what I am seeing on paper but still want to shoot it in person before I make the switch. it is nice because to me it combines features of the Lift 29.5 and the Image from last year if you go with the lightweight limbs over the standard limbs. both of those were good bows but now you are able to have the two in one and have that 27.75 ATA. I like the idea of the short ATA for inside of ground blind and for up in tight trees. another plus is they are claiming a 353 FPS IBO Speed now out of this compact bow.

Check out the O Light store on amazon. I have their Prowess (5000 Lumen), Seeker 4 (4600 Lumen), & Baton 3 (2500 Lumen). they are all great lights. the Prowess is at its lowest price in the last 30 days ($97.99). another one of theirs too look at is the Marauder Mini (7000 Lumen), it is the most expensive of these but also the brightest.

How many over/under shotguns factories are there in Turkey I wonder…That’s an interesting question Reef, I wonder the same thing.
don’t know the answer to that but I do know that the one big one was Khan they made the original Mossberg Silver Reserves. I actually had a Khan before Mossberg started getting the silver reserves from them. it was a decent gun but if you didn’t have it tight in your shoulder when you shot it would fire both barrels at the same time due to inertia.
October 5, 2024 at 1:10 am #2292400The Steven 555’s are good guns for the money. I personally have all 5 gauges it is made in. I find I shoot the 20 ga the most. I like that for chasing pheasant during the early part of the season and trap shooting. then for grouse and squirrels I like the 28GA. Have been tempted to try the 410 on squirrels sometime too for more of a challenge. 16 GA is a good midseason pheasant gun and then I would go to my 12ga for late season pheasants. the Mossberg Silver reserves are good too, had a couple of them in the past.
September 25, 2024 at 5:29 am #2290712for that rifle if you don’t want to spend a lot, I would go with a 3-9 X 40 Vortex Crossfire II. they can be had for around $150.00 give or take a little plus tax.
This is what I run on my Savage Axis .308, and it is a comparable rifle to the Ruger American.
August 24, 2024 at 3:32 am #2286694Besides shooting one where can a guy get a pheasant wing? The training scent I bought sure smells like soap and not a pheasant.

August 8, 2024 at 1:51 am #22845432. The permit gives you the opportunity to purchase handguns without any background checks.
this is actually false even with having a permit you still need to have the NICS check run. there are some states that this is true in but not in Minnesota.
August 6, 2024 at 5:11 am #2284119Since all this CC garbola started up years ago, hopw many of all you holders have actually been in a situation where you needed the pistola to protect yourself? If you think you need the cc, follow the rules. It’s really simple.
me personally I have had three times that I could have pulled mine if things went bad. first time was one night in a grocery store parking lot when I see two guys acting strange and they started to walk towards me and my wife at the time (now ex-wife) second was when a drunk guy walked up a little too close to me while I was at the atm one night was able to use words to get him to back away. the third time was one night coming out of a Walmart (back when they were still 24-hour stores) and 4 guys in a group were acting strange and one of them started to bark at me like a dog when I walked wide to one side around them to avoid them.
August 6, 2024 at 4:40 am #2284118I would like people’s opinion and feedback on this. If pulling your firearm would possibly get you convicted of 2nd degree felony assault or more if they could prove that you didn’t try to retreat first then wouldn’t the solution be that permit holders just start to open carry since that is legal under your carry permit and open carrying is not considered brandishing (believe there was cases that dealt with this issue in the past but just don’t remember the specifics of them). Could open carrying be a deterrent or would that open you up to be the first target of the criminal. To me it could go either way. the one thing thou is if people were to start to open carry more, they need to be smart about it and use a minimum of a level 2 retention holster but preferably a level 3 holster. my other question is that would the criminal that pulls a weapon on you be charged with 2nd degree felony assault for causing you to have fear of death or great bodily harm if you didn’t defend you self and you were able to retreat and get away from the criminal without having to pull your firearm. another thing to think about is are we getting to the point where we all need to start to wear and use body cams to prove that we had no means to retreat first.
April 22, 2024 at 8:23 pm #2268782let me start by saying that I am not an attorney, but I have studied the firearms laws that are in place here. let me break this down for you based on the actual Minnesota statues that come into play in this case. but before I do that there is one thing that comes into play here and that is if the said BB Gun was a BB pistol or a BB rifle. so, the statues you need to look at are, 624.712 (definitions), 624.714 (carry without permit), and 624.7181 (rifles and shotguns in public places).
the part of 624.712 that is important in this case reads as follows:
Subd. 2.Pistol. “Pistol” includes a weapon designed to be fired by the use of a single hand and with an overall length less than 26 inches, or having a barrel or barrels of a length less than 18 inches in the case of a shotgun or having a barrel of a length less than 16 inches in the case of a rifle (1) from which may be fired or ejected one or more solid projectiles by means of a cartridge or shell or by the action of an explosive or the igniting of flammable or explosive substances; or (2) for which the propelling force is a spring, elastic band, carbon dioxide, air or other gas, or vapor.
This part right here is very important, if the BB gun in this case was a BB pistol and not a rifle.
“Pistol” does not include a device firing or ejecting a shot measuring .18 of an inch, or less, in diameter and commonly known as a “BB gun,” a scuba gun, a stud gun or nail gun used in the construction industry or children’s pop guns or toys.
now the part from 624.714 that comes into play in this case.
Subd. 1a. Permit required; penalty. A person, other than a peace officer, as defined in section 626.84, subdivision 1, who carries, holds, or possesses a pistol in a motor vehicle, snowmobile, or boat, or on or about the person’s clothes or the person, or otherwise in possession or control in a public place, as defined in section 624.7181, subdivision 1, paragraph (c), without first having obtained a permit to carry the pistol is guilty of a gross misdemeanor. A person who is convicted a second or subsequent time is guilty of a felony.
so now if the BB gun in this case is a BB pistol then there should of been no charges filed for the carrying of it in the vehicle because under 624.712 a BB pistol is not defined as a pistol by statue. Now here is where 624.7181 comes into play and where the charge could of came from in this case if the BB gun in the case was a BB rifle and not a BB pistol.
here is 624.7181 that would come into play in this if the BB gun was a rifle.
624.7181 RIFLES AND SHOTGUNS IN PUBLIC PLACES.
§Subdivision 1.Definitions. For purposes of this section, the following terms have the meanings given them.
(a) “BB gun” means a device that fires or ejects a shot measuring .18 of an inch or less in diameter.(b) “Carry” does not include:
(1) the carrying of a BB gun, rifle, or shotgun to, from, or at a place where firearms are repaired, bought, sold, traded, or displayed, or where hunting, target shooting, or other lawful activity involving firearms occurs, or at funerals, parades, or other lawful ceremonies;
(2) the carrying by a person of a BB gun, rifle, or shotgun that is unloaded and in a gun case expressly made to contain a firearm, if the case fully encloses the firearm by being zipped, snapped, buckled, tied, or otherwise fastened, and no portion of the firearm is exposed;
(3) the carrying of a BB gun, rifle, or shotgun by a person who has a permit under section 624.714;
(4) the carrying of an antique firearm as a curiosity or for its historical significance or value; or
(5) the transporting of a BB gun, rifle, or shotgun in compliance with section 97B.045.
(c) “Public place” means property owned, leased, or controlled by a governmental unit and private property that is regularly and frequently open to or made available for use by the public in sufficient numbers to give clear notice of the property’s current dedication to public use but does not include: a person’s dwelling house or premises, the place of business owned or managed by the person, or land possessed by the person; a gun show, gun shop, or hunting or target shooting facility; or the woods, fields, or waters of this state where the person is present lawfully for the purpose of hunting or target shooting or other lawful activity involving firearms.
Subd. 2.Penalties. Whoever carries a BB gun, rifle, or shotgun on or about the person in a public place is guilty of a gross misdemeanor. A person under the age of 21 who carries a semiautomatic military-style assault weapon, as defined in section 624.712, subdivision 7, on or about the person in a public place is guilty of a felony.
Subd. 3.Exceptions. This section does not apply to officers, employees, or agents of law enforcement agencies or the armed forces of this state or the United States, or private detectives or protective agents, to the extent that these persons are authorized by law to carry firearms and are acting in the scope of their official duties.so based on all this I think they charged him under sub division 1b(2) and 1b (5) because my guess is that it was uncased in the car. then they added 1b (3) because most likely he didn’t have a carry permit. now the part that address the car and public place is 1c. the car itself is private property so no, the car cannot be considered public property but the road the car was on is public property.
so, I hope this break down of the statues gives you a clearer understanding and helps you not to jump to conclusions that are not correct or true.
February 28, 2024 at 9:59 pm #2256937it is HF3633 and would require solvent based paints to be restricted to licensed contractors only. also eliminates spray paint. think that water-based paint wouldn’t be affected by this.

the hit inserts are for 5mm shafts (.204 dia). micros are 4mm (.166 Dia) and don’t have a hits option.
November 20, 2023 at 9:35 pm #2236881I have been working my local gun clubs sight in the past five plus years and I see this issue every year when people try to shoot the SST slugs. they will switch to a different brand and they dial right in with minimal shots. I haven’t been able to figure out why this happens each year with the SST slugs. you would think that Hornady would look into this and make changes so the performance gets better. I personally have a 20 gauge 870 that will only shoot the cheap federal sabot slugs. problem is that I haven’t seen that slug in over three years. luckily, I still have 9 boxes left. if I can’t get any more of that slug I might try the Winchester copper impact sabot slugs. might try the Winchester’s in my 20-gauge Mossberg 500 too and see how they preform in that.

November 10, 2023 at 7:48 pm #2235123I’m partial to Mathews. I think their new bow comes out on the 14th.
Yes, it is on the 14th. Mathews has dropped like three teasers tonight. the name of the new bow for this year is the “Lift” but that is about all they will show you other then one of their pro staff members hunting elk and sheep with the new bow, but they don’t give a clear picture of the bow in these clips.

If you can’t find a used Hoyt VTM, Archery Country in Rogers has a few new ones left for sale. I did try the new Hoyt RX8 out today when I was there. It was so smooth in the draw cycle and the back wall was nice and solid. it was very quiet when shooting it too. I plan to buy one in the spring (need to do a family room floor replacement first). Just picked up the Mathew Image. This will be my new dedicated turkey bow. My current Mathew VXR28 is my deer bow but will become my backup bow once I get the Hoyt RX8. Also looking at either a 33-inch Mathew phase 4 or seeing what the new Mathews will be like. this would be set up as a 3D bow.Props on embracing the IDO motto, “If Some is good, more is better!” But I am curious why you want a different bow for deer, turkey and 3D shooting?
I want the different bows, so I don’t have to re sight and retune every time I change set ups. My VXR is set up at 60 lbs. I shoot 400 spine Black Eagle X impacts with 100 grain heads through it. these weigh 357 grains total and are moving out of the bow at 292 FPS. I set the Image up at 50lbs and out of this I am shooting a 400 spine Black Eagle Carnivore arrow with an 85-grain head. this arrow weights 347 Grains and is moving at 257 FPS. tried a 500 spine X Impact with it first but the bow didn’t like it, so I upped to a 400 spine. As for a 3D bow, I am looking at using the Black Eagle PS23 arrows, but I haven’t run numbers yet to get a total arrow weight and don’t know speed yet for based on the arrow build but it will be set up at 60 lbs draw weight when I do get it. As for the RX8 I will just use the same arrows I use with the VXR28 as long as the speed stay up there and they tune correctly, if not I will run numbers and try to come up with the best arrow build to get the most speed and best performance out of it.

November 2, 2023 at 7:29 pm #2234005decided to skip opening day this year and do a full day guided goose hunt on Saturday instead. might try to get a pheasant hunt in on Sunday. second weekend of the season I am on dog sitting duty for my sister (I am the only one she trusts to take care of her dogs when she goes away) so that weekend is out. might try to make it north to either 152 or 157 and hunt the final weekend of the firearms season. if I skip that I can always do a late season bow hunt or crossbow hunt instead. would be a ground blind hunt with a small heater in the blind with me to keep me warm (lol).
October 26, 2023 at 10:30 pm #2232696The easiest way to get 300 savage rounds is to buy 308 win brass and reform it to 300 savage. once reformed you will need to trim it to proper length but that is not hard to do. with the modern-day bullets and powders, you can get really good results with accuracy from the older rifles. A friend of mine bought a savage 99 in 300 savage and this is what we did for his rifle. he let me shoot it and now I have been bitten and want to find a good savage 99 for myself in it. About a month ago my local fleet farm did have 5 boxes of 300 savage factory loads but they were $60 per box ($3.00 per round)
