there is nothing in the book that says you cant bow hunt in MN during gun season.

ha, i wish i had your problems, now dont get me wrong, having a camera in my food plot 100 yds from my back door rocks, and not having to walk more than 5 minutes to get to my furthest camera (i have 5 out now and 5 more will go out this weekend) is pretty awesome but i for one check em WAY FLIPPIN TO OFTEN!!!!!!!!
i know if i ever catch a big un walking through id be drivin the section and sneakin peaks into the food plot constantly trying to catch a glimpse in person. last year when i put the food plot out right behind the barn (first ever plot 1 acre clover 1.5 of soybeans))i found myself drivin thru the yard shining the lights into the clover almost every night. DUMB DUMB DUMB!!!!! i had some pretty nice ones in there a few times but they got sick of me lookin at them and i never did see em again.the key to trail cameras in my opinion, check them every 2-3 weeks at MOST and just because your camera can take 3 pictures ever 5-6 seconds, doesnt mean ya have to set it that way. a full card after a week does no one any good. and trust me there is nothing worse than grabbing a card and realizing its been full for over a week. as im sure many here know.
ok, there is something worse, getting to the camera after 3 weeks and realizing you didnt turn the mo fo on when you swapped cards last time. anyone ever done that????May 25, 2011 at 1:39 pm #106519this may be a dumb question but where do you find them? i know around trees, but do they favor a certain type of tree? my woods is mostly hard woods and i can honestly say i dont think ive ever found a morel, not that ive really been looking. but i love mushrooms and from what everyone says these are awesome.
May 25, 2011 at 1:32 pm #106518if money is no object Reconyx hands down. i upgraded my cameras this year too the coverts Hr8.0 (2 of them) and three scoutguards. love the lcd screen on the coverts, sure makes it handy viewing pics in the field if you want too and they are 1/3 the price of the reconyx. im more than happy with the triger speed 1.2 sec compared with the prob 3 seconds my old cameras were. but absolutely nothing on the market can touch the reconyx. they dont have a video mode for a reason, they snap 2 pics per second. annd the trigger speed is 1/5th of a sec. if something moves it will get caught. another thing you may want to look at is the home brew camera, i bought one from a friend and they take amazing pictures, the quality of the picture cant be matched by ANY commercial trail cam, and some of them even have sound on the video mode, this option is pretty neat. PM me if your interested and i could probably get you in touch with the guy that makes them, hes really awesome at it. the only thing the reconyx has on the home brew is the trigger speed.
May 20, 2011 at 10:35 pm #106431hey, ive been there quite a few times. i work in austin but live by alden, we got a big cat running around our area as well. saw the tracks after a rain on a gravel road less than a mile from my house, and its all fish and game between us. i dont run after dark anymore.
May 16, 2011 at 5:53 pm #106259i would say that depends.
Is this going to be the only crop in this 1/4 acre?if yes then you could prob get by waiting awhile. i planted some last year around middle of august broadcast in my soybean plot and they just didnt produce anything, i waited until we got a nice slow rain to make sure they made good contact with the soil but they still didnt produce anything bigger than a large marble. im planting a mix this year with them in it and its going in the ground an the next few weeks. next year when i go back to beans in the plot i will try it again but plant them much earlier.
the only thing ive heard as far as planting them in the spring is that sometimes they get huge. im not sure if a sugar beet is anything like a radish but radishes get woody if they grow to long and get too big.
hope that helps a little.May 12, 2011 at 4:46 pm #106177i see where your going with that but wouldnt i be creating more vacuum if i put a barrier in the front of the blades the same depth as the deck? i would be closing it off to the nose section thats angled away from the blades. like i said, im no expert in building lawn mower decks, just that all the newer models out have a flat front not an angled one.
May 11, 2011 at 5:13 pm #105556ok thanks kooty. so it did send but by not clicking one of those boxes i just dont have a copy. is this what you are tellin me?

May 10, 2011 at 8:07 pm #106122so how do you like them? i am deciding between these and the Full Metal Jackets.
May 9, 2011 at 4:31 pm #106080Thats the same thing i was thinking as i was going through this thread. i have heard the rumors as well but have for awhile now. i guess it doesnt matter to me either way. my thoughts on having them as many have stated, as long as you take the time to sight your gun in you will more than likely have a better chance at an ethical kill. on the other hand by having scopes you just increased your range from 150 yds to in 300 yds and in my area i know many people that will take 200 yd shots with a slug regularly just because there is a deer out there, give them a muzzy with a scope and they will be loadin up and shooting as far as they can see. id hate for that to happen. i can see both sides of the fence here and i guess if i had to choose i guess id have to say put your scope on during slug season. and just so ya know, I hunt with a bow, slug gun, and a muzzy.
May 9, 2011 at 4:16 pm #106078The first thing i would ask you KB is what are your goals with putting the rock or any other mineral out? If your only goal is to draw deer in and get some pictures then your trophy rock will do just fine, heck a bag of softener salt would last awhile and get the same results. by no means am i bashing trophy rock, it has its purpose, i used them for years but as i did more research i came to find out that even tho i was seeing a ton of deer i was doing nothing to help the health of them i switched to a quality mineral in which the salt content was low and i was actually giving the deer what they needed to not only grow big bone but to help them be healthy. i dont need to mention the mineral i go with but the thing i would say is do your homework, first step, look at the salt content, the stuff i use has 14-17% salt that means that there is more room for the good stuff. just my 2 cents, im not pimping one product over another, just letting you know what i look for in a mineral.
March 30, 2011 at 7:01 pm #103460Sorry to hear that about your little girl.
well first thing first. you did the right thing notifying the school. i had this same problem with my daughter and a boy at school, the school ended up taking care of it and we havnt had the same problem again.
as dads we are perhaps a bit more protective of our baby girls and i was ready to put the fear of god in the boy.
we hear so much more about bullying these days and schools are VERY VERY hard on the kids that are doing it, at least here in southern mn. if for some reason the school doesnt take care of it then i would talk to the bus driver then maybe a call to the kids parents, and then well, just dont end up in jail.March 28, 2011 at 7:28 pm #103275will definately do that, i would have thought that if it was outside it wouldnt make a difference. maybe it does. thanks.
March 28, 2011 at 4:34 pm #103256yes i hear you with that for sure. i will be checking with them as well. if i cant put it in the house it will go right outside and i will add pipes in it and run them into the house into a heat exchange in the plenum of my furnace. it will still use electricity but when your spending close to 3000$ a winter for LP its time to do something. woods cheap.
March 8, 2011 at 8:26 pm #101938good ideas here. i cut in three trails last year through some thick stuff, they were 4 foot wide and all led to my food plot from 3 different parts of the woods. the deer used them like crazy. not so much once we got the heavy snow because all the thick stuff was pushed flat but early season bow i can see where the trails are going to benefeit us bigtime.
March 8, 2011 at 7:49 pm #101935200 lb for 75 bucks does sound way cheap, you wouldnt be able to get a quality mineral for even half that. id be a little concerned that its mostly salt as well, like the old saying goes, ya get what ya pay for. the one thing ive learned in the past couple of years is that there are many mineral companies out there (seems like a new one every day) but alot of them (not all) add alot of salt, yes the deer may love it but are they getting everything they need?
the next thing i would ask and i know this is early but do you plan on hunting over this site? 200 lbs should last you along time and if you add molasis or anything else it goes from a just a mineral to an attractant, illegal to hunt over or even be a short distance from in some states.March 8, 2011 at 7:25 pm #101934i would start now as well. when the snow melts and the ground gets soft they should be able to tear it up by themselves. im starting 2 new ones this weekend.
March 8, 2011 at 7:12 pm #101933i agree its all about genetics, you stated that after you started your mineral site that you noticed brow tines or extra stickers, i guess it is possible that he had the genetics at the time yet didnt have the means necisary to grow those big racks. one thing you are doing by adding mineral to a spot that you never did before is giving the deer something they need, something they want, something that many other deer are after as well. its possible that you lured some deer with the brow tine trait into your property because of the things you were doing and he bred with does that were there already. just my .02 on the subject.

60″ shaft for sure!!
Get a 3 bank charger.
Go with two 520’s (networked). You only need the head only
at the bow…..no module or transducer.
Then you have a backup GPS if one ever goes down for
not much more $$.How about some Whitecap splash guards!
Why 3 bank? There is only two batteries at the front – is the third for the motor battery?

520c w/o ducer or GPS $399.00
X67c $249.00These are Jolly Ann Marine prices. Free shipping and no tax if you live outside of Iowa
Wow those are good prices compared to what I would have to pay here in Canada.
520C is $630 and x67 is $370
I will likely buy the entire package, both the MinnKota and Lowrence products, in the US.February 1, 2008 at 8:21 pm #650453“If you got 2 520’s you move one to the bow when using the trolling motor. When trolling or moving from one spot to another put both 520’s at the console. One with a full view of sonar and the other on GPS”
I will admit this idea did cross my mind but I was scared to propose it because it seemed radical at first thought. I will seriously consider it.
January 28, 2008 at 6:06 pm #648554I plan to purchase a unit for the the bow (to be used with Minn Kota US2) and another for the consul. Forgive me if this is a stupid question but I have never owned a fish finderGPS combo before. Can sonar be turned off and still have the GPS fully funtional to avoid frequency interferanc.
