Any information on bone lake? Just across the road from big round, but quite a bit larger. Any information would be very much appreciated.

I heard a report of 2-4″ of ice on White Ash lake in Polk county yesterday. With this warm weather, it may go fast. Looks like favorable weather for ice this coming week
April 19, 2005 at 3:20 am #357897I fished the Eau Galle this evening. It was quite a nice evening, so i thought i’d give it a try.
The fishing seemed a little slow i thought, compared to the outings i had earlier this spring on the kinni and trimbelle rivers.
I caught 6 trout, the largest being a brown that was a shade under 11 inches. i caught a couple of smaller brookies which were between 5 & 7 inches as well.
Hopefully it was somewhat of an inopportune time to hit the river, otherwise i’ll stick to the far western rivers of pierce county.
January 11, 2005 at 1:35 am #335901I headed to Bone today – the perch bite was pretty decent. A buddy and me had 34 perch when we left the ice. The aqua vu showed many fish, who were willing to bite anything with a waxie on it – even crappie minnows worked good, but weren’t as hot as waxworms. We fished in 34 feet of water near the north end of the lake. I think anyone would be able to catch fish if they were willing to drill a few holes and drop a vexilar down to investigate.
Good fishing….
December 19, 2004 at 12:51 am #332449Tip Ups Only-
I don’t know which bay they were fishing in. All I know is that they had pretty decent fishing on the tip ups in whichever bay they were fishing in……
December 16, 2004 at 3:43 am #331999I know of a few guys who were out on balsam two weeks ago when the weather was decent. They had very good luck in the bays that were frozen over – with eyes and pike. Funny thing was that there were boats roaring around on the main lake and they were fishing with tip ups. Don’t know of the current conditions, but i would imagine that the conditions right now would be more favorable than the conditions two weeks ago.
good fishing….
March 1, 2004 at 2:59 am #294391I headed up to the Big and Little Blakes on Friday. Nice day to be out fishing. Too bad there was over a foot of snow on the ice, which made for a colorie-burning trek across the lakes. Also, when I drilled holes, water came running up out of holes from all of the pressure. There was plenty of ice, probably two feet. Located fish in 10-12 feet of water. Caught quite a few bluegills, with most of them being between 5 and 6 inches. Caught a total of 9 fish that were larger than 7 inches. All in all, It was a pretty decent day to be fishing. Just wish the larger fish would have been a bit more cooperative.
February 12, 2004 at 5:43 pm #292523I am heading to the Trimbelle River. Nothing to me beats a secluded and peaceful stretch of a trout stream.
Until then, I’m going to stay on the hard water.
February 11, 2004 at 1:20 am #292130I’d just fish for the gamefish on the last day of february. Usually by then the fish have slowed down to winter fishing lows, and are much harder to come by. That is what I would do to avoid the guesswork. Until then good luck!!
January 29, 2004 at 4:52 pm #290679Hey Coot-
Where about where you fishing on Bone? Any special presentation needed to catch the perch? I was up there a few years ago, and caught piles of small perch, nothing special was needed to get them to cooperate either. If I am going fishing this weekend, I’ll be inside of a shanty, that is for sure!!
Any info would be extremely helpful!!
January 21, 2004 at 9:13 pm #289491Honestly, I don’t really know why they run so small. There could be a lack of food, or there could be an issue of stunted growth for the fish. But I would have to throw out the lack of food. I have caught quite a few decent sized panfish in the lake, so I wouldn’t think it would be due to a lack of food. But then again, crappies feed on the same food as other panfish.
If I were a betting angler, I would guess that there is an overpopulation of crappies. Rarely have I been down to the lake and not seen a decent crappie bite.
Are you having any other luck on the lake with bluegills?
Please keep on posting updates! Good to hear from other honest fishermen.
January 21, 2004 at 1:09 am #289391I live only 3 miles from the lake. It is a really good panfish producer from first ice until the time people start driving on the lake. The fish are pretty tranquil, and I think are turned off by all of the traffic on the ice. Since the fish are not used to motor boats, I believe they become extremely weary at the “new sounds” on the water.
Earlier this year, I was having really good luck catching some good sized ‘gills. After the 1st of the year, they seemed to have shut off.
Otherwise, the lake is a good crappie producer, but they are small in size. It sure doesn’t seem to matter to a lot of the locals, and in my opinion, they will soon be fished out unless people start practicing Catch and Release.
Otherwise, I love reading your reports, and keep them coming!
December 10, 2003 at 7:53 pm #284797yeah, some fella fell through sunday the 30th. I guess he got out okay, no death. I heard a story that some guy took a canoe out there before the 30th and fished out of it atop of the ice as well. Menomonie received 10″ of snow, so i would be awfully leary when heading onto the ice. hopefully we get some good cold temps. there is alot of insulation atop of the ice now….
December 8, 2003 at 5:52 am #284437There have been people fishing by the cemetary since tuesday the 2nd. I haven’t heard of any reliable fishing reports, but Friday there were about 25 cars at the boat landing. I’m sure there were a few spooked fish in the waters below. I’m going to wait until this weekend to head out. I’m thinking I’ll go north of Hwy. 8, I don’t like to take my chances, especially on fresh ice. Good luck in any holes you may drill……
