7.5 is portable but with medium minnows on up 13 or 19 is a must….look back in the threads on here but I purchased the larger aerator stones and put in all my Engels, only time my lid froze was my fault, minnow bucket sat outside for most of the evening after rolling out of the truck onto the lawn, I brought it in thawed the lid, changed out the water for the minnows and took it back out into negative temps fishing the next day.
February 9, 2025 at 10:15 pm #2316405I’ve had this one for a few years, never used it in the portable, but works great n the screen tent during the summer.
February 7, 2025 at 6:17 pm #2315982I would love to put a couple younger ice fisherman on one of those spoon augers….12” of ice and they would quit. It has definitely changed with the nice had augers now let alone gas/ battery augers.
February 2, 2025 at 9:54 am #2314631A drill and that jiffy auger bit from your jiffy will suck, don’t jiffy auger turn backwards. So you’ll be fighting your chuck. If you want a good deal I have a 8 inch lite flight on a clam plate for 150 bucks that hasn’t sold yet. In great shape, just add your own drill.
Bearcat has a great deal for you!

January 21, 2025 at 8:55 pm #2312178I went with the Ion Alpha Plus- 8″ poly. Scheels has them for $549 and that includes a second battery. By using my Scheel’s Visa it added a year to the warranty too. A lot to spend, but I should be able to get a decent amount when I sell my SM 40 as well. Excited to try it out!
You’ll love the alpha plus!!!!
January 19, 2025 at 10:06 pm #2311663I’ve used the Big Dipper for many years!! But my go to is no longer made, all plastic, blue handle with a hook and a red scoop, measurements to 18” on the handle.
January 13, 2025 at 8:48 pm #2310383Years ago a buddy did his fish house floor with the bed liner…..not a good idea!!! When it was wet you didn’t want to move around at all, it was better when dry but still slippery.
January 8, 2025 at 11:20 pm #2309578I have always bought the 10” auger to use in the hard side, the 8 is for the portable.
January 8, 2025 at 11:18 pm #2309577If you went 8” you have 2000” of ice per battery which is awesome to over eskimos 1300” per battery. Thats 1400 more inches of ice between the two with two batteries each
I did!
January 8, 2025 at 9:43 pm #2309573So I bought the ion alpha plus this evening, Scheels had them with a free second battery. Scheels customer service has been top notch to me and I am happy to do business with them again. It was really hard to not go with the Eskimo but I will be able to utilize most of my accessories on the new auger.
January 6, 2025 at 4:18 pm #2309125Appreciate all the feedback back. Definitely going composite, just trying to narrow down on brand, I’m partial to ion since my existing has held up so well….but a lot of great points made on multiple different brands. See what the old google machine provides for good pricing.
January 4, 2025 at 12:26 pm #2308586Clam makes a pen light that works awesome for charging up uv or glows. I bought it at Scheels for $10 figuring if it works great if not oh well…it has been great!
January 3, 2025 at 8:51 am #2308346Are the walls not spray foamed? Definitely not carpet! We have a vinyl flooring and put a water hog floor mat down at the door and have runners to put down if needed. Get that carpet out, don’t lay over it.

I run bass mafia coffin 3600, each get their own slot.I’d need to have 15 of them.
If you run that many spoons every time you go out then the 3700s with a summer “duffle” tackle bag. For me the old Humminbird bag fits 4-3600 trays, portable is what I’m looking for unless the hard is out on the lake. But to each their own!haha
December 31, 2024 at 2:47 pm #2307857Vexilar 9ah lithium, fished 2 full days and still plenty of battery life. I have it in both of my vexilar.
December 25, 2024 at 10:38 am #2306815Hobo dinners, diced potatoes, carrots, a single 1/4 lbs beef patties, lots of sliced butter placed throughout, seasonings and then double wrapped (sealed) in foil. Tear the end open and eat out of the foil, but dumping onto a plate works better. About 15-20min per side.
December 20, 2024 at 4:19 pm #2306150December 15, 2024 at 9:21 pm #2305073Flags in Carton County today
6-8″ of ice
Nothing better than seeing the kids running for the flags!!!
December 9, 2024 at 8:24 pm #2304018Always good to bring a extra co detector, fish batter and don’t forget a charger for your vexlar.
Reread the regulations for the lake you are on so there’s no wasting time reading them while you should be fishing. Generator as a back up for/if provided, fuel for the generator, flash light and head lamps cause when stuff happens it’s not during daylight hours, regular fillet knife as a back up for the battery/electric.
December 3, 2024 at 10:07 pm #2302875If you sit still and in a shack at all times they don’t help at all.
If you hole hop it is very nice to have. Plus customized look is cool.E3Designs makes them customized for you. Student run business and all profits go back into the program.
Love my ducer arms from E3!!!
October 3, 2024 at 10:54 pm #2292219I have had them for 3 ice seasons and still haven’t had a need for the coat, bibs are great, coat is going to be used this winter due to extremely cold weather…hopefully!!
September 20, 2024 at 10:07 am #2290172Have the same bow for hunting, I can’t tell myself to go get a new one when what I have has no issues and shoots so consistently. Good luck on the sale Bearcat!!
March 18, 2024 at 8:42 am #2261634I would call HB and talk to a tech on what you have for a shuttle etc. HB has some pretty decent parts break down’s, I had to deal with them on an older fish finder components and they were awesome to deal with.
February 17, 2024 at 10:06 pm #2254787Had my first issue with otter this year that wasn’t resolved immediately by customer service! Very surprised!!!
