Hey Jim, I have owned the otter 1200 for few years now. When I extend the first poles i find it very difficult to do. I have to put my foot on the side of the sled and pull it up as hard as I can. Initially I thought it would loosen up but it has not I was wondering if there is anything I can do to make this process easier?

It completely depends on the Lake and species you are targeting. When I typically go out first ice I go for walleye. When I try to find their depth I usually start at a mid range of 15-20ft depending on the lake and drill shallower. But for crappie and perch I usually find then in more shallow areas then deeper water around 12ft.

I cannot wait for the upcoming ice. I have herd reports of ice forming on south metro lakes today and cannot wait to be back for the early ice!
