    259, in the bunyan here

How’s it been up there? We had some complications on the land we were hunting just south of the Bunyan 3-4 years ago, and are in 157 now.

The last 3-4 years have been tough, will get a couple nice bucks on camera that roll through once, enough to stay positive. Deer numbers have been down, but if a guy puts in time, you’ll have a chance at a deer. If our camp of 2.5 hunters see more than 2-3 deer all week, its pretty good

I bought a used aluminum one a few years ago because I take mine off during the summer since I use the pickup bed for other uses and the kennels get plenty of air circulation during the warm times when the topper is off. the biggest issue I’ve come across is trying to keep it “air tight”, I’ve sealed the tailgate best I could but it still gets dusty. air vents/windows with screens is needed for ventilation, also having the side windows being able to open up is a must IMO. I had a truck with a topper that did not have windows that opened, that was a PITA to move and grab stuff in the back, might as well of had a SUV at that point.

I’d be surprised if its still land locked, especially a WMA. I did not think the state would bother purchasing those type of lands now days, especially since there are still quite a bit of public lands that are land locked

I admit, I was the early guy one year. Sitting in the woods in complete darkness thinking man the sun is taking a long time to come up. I think I was asleep in my stand by 9:00am rotflol

I did that once in college while sitting in the bowstand, but it was in october… maybe it was the activities the night before that caused poor alarm clock judgement

For the Brainerd area being close to thousands of acres of public land and lakes everywhere, its sad the only sporting goods store we have is FF. Mostly disappointed walking in there when looking for something specific being fishing or hunting wise.

Really wish scheels or reeds would come back into the old GM store

It’s a unicorn year, where Sunday morning isn’t an hour early! Love these years.

Same, give a week to adjust and be used to it.

I wouldnt mind if they pushed it back into mid november when theres a better chance for cooler weather

we were there a couple weekends ago; did the best with jigs and half crawler, as stated, alot of small walleyes. We caught the biggest walleyes 16-18″ while throwing cranks on wind beaten shorelines for smallies. we are not setup for leadcore, so we tried 3 way rigging and caught a few fish on that, but did better vertical jigging. Saw a couple other guys lead core and they seemed to do the same.
smallie fishing was slow until the last day and we found an island they were hanging out at, not alot, but good average size. Most on cranks, a couple on spinners

we were there last year, tried fishing the rum river where the dam used to be but now its pretty shallow. Used to catch all kinds of fish there back in the day like grimus stated.
swimming on the big lake in vineland bay is really nice, walk out really far and nice and sandy; but there can be sketchy characters there…

i think your best option is to rent a canoe from the state park office as they have some at the rum river boat launch and try to find some bass or panfish

we need to do this, our mortgage company sent a letter a couple weeks ago about a breach and our info was stolen.

the only thing I don’t like about making 3 more acounts for the freeze is its another access point for theft, it seems like a matter of time when the 3 credit bureaus get hacked with (similar to lifelock)

I made a similar one, the caster was rated for 900lbs got bent up after one use. Thinking about replacing with one of these, just need to find the correct sized U bolts

my son and I met my friend and his kid last weekend and stayed on sand lake. We caught a handful of dinky pike which we kept. Tried to find panfish during the day which was tough. We then tried the evening bite and the crappies came through the last hour of light to dark. 25-27′, finicky biters but good fish. 8-9″ of ice.

Tried bowstring sunday morning for just a little bit, went out of the NW public access with the wheeler, marked a bunch of fish but must have been dinky perch as they would only peck at our spoons. only caught 1 20″ pike for the short time we were out there before the kids got cold. about the same amount of ice out there, we went out about 1.5 miles

    I tried fluid film on our ice house around the axles and winches; all it did was attract dust and it still rusted;

my 2013 f150 rear fenders started to rust and bubble, i sanded down all the loose rust/bubbles, cleaned it, and used POR15 to seal down the rust and inside the fenders and hid them with oem flares

verizon has been pretty good overall for us, but spendy. Thinking of going to “visible” by verizon

like rj said, we are in baxter and get 1-2 bars for verizon but all in all coverage in most areas.

Jackpine brewery has 5G and that works great grin

best thing to do is fire up your humminbird in simulator mode; go to the map view, zoom in/out to isle royale and see what coverage is available; i know MN has Superior coverage as far east as the apostle islands i believe, so it may have the isle royale coverage

Any recent reports on Kab? Water temps/water levels? I am heading up there Friday for a bachelor’s party and hoping to get into some fish!

    Following as well…

From some of the FB posts from resorts, sounds like Smb are shallow and eyes are being caught pretty shallow yet.

I hope the mayflies hold off for a bit yet…

we avoid running our generator if we can. run the heat off one group 27 battery and tv off a group 24. we opted for the 32″ LED 120volt tv and blueray player and a 300watt inverter running off a group 24 battery. Can easily get a weekend out of it.
I briefly looked at 12 volt tvs and if I remember right, they cost more, you can get a use 32″ tv cheap, hell even new ones now days are around $100

We love this recipe on the grill, I’m sure the oven would give the same results. We’ve done this with walleye, perch, gills and crappies. Lately, the kids prefer this way vs fried

    Pellet Grilled Catfish Fillets

    INGREDIENTS:
    Fish Fillets
    Fish Rub
    Lemon Juice
    Milk
    Water

1.) Brine them in the refrigerator in a even mixture of milk, water, and lemon juice for at least 30 minutes before you grill them.
2.) Then pat them dry and sprinkle both sides with Fish Rub.
3.) Grill the filets on a frogmat or a piece of aluminum foil at about 400°F for 4-5 minutes per side or until the fish flakes with a fork.
4.) Remove from the grill and drizzle with lemon juice. Serve immediately.

buying a flasher over a sonar unit now days is like buying a flip phone over a smartphone at nearly the same price.

Today’s sonar units offer year round use plus you get the benefits of mapping. Not sure why others experience a “lag’ when jigging, the old sonar screen units 10+ years ago had this but now technology has caught up and its not noticeable (not sure on garmin or lowarnce units).

On another note, the Autochart bottom composition feature is slick when ice fishing, you can hole hop, mark a autochart point and look for bottom transitions

I was in this situation last year. Samething here, my feet get cold easily. My Mickey boots finally fell apart after years of abuse. So I wanted to upgrade. I tried the korkers knee high boots first as they are advertised as ice fishing boots and I returned them due to getting cold feet at below zero temps. I switched to the boot style Korkers and they’re slightly warmer.
I love the laceless system, smaller profile boot, comfortable and the removable soles. They’re not 100% waterproof. After standing in water, they get damp. And not as warm as my Mickey boots before they started to wear through despite their -60 rating

I used to agree with that but Nick has slowly became more and more douchy. He’s such an @ss to everyone and he’s never wrong…Sure, he sometimes plays it off like a joke, but is it?…

I could never work with that clown and can hardly stand listening to him anymore.

I could see what you mean, but he seems like a guy you could drink a beer with, out of all of them along with drinking a Mtn Dew with Josh, and smoking pot with wapple but I dont partake in pop or pot so beer it is! I’m not much of a fan of Dana or Ashley…
but, all in all, its an unpopular opinion grin

Do I really need one? I have a tonneau cover will that be OK or should I build a box for it not much success finding a plastic tote that may work. Is it to keep it warm or just noise the noise does not bother me Honda 2200 if that matters.

No need, I’ve run mine in the pickup bed with the tonneau 3/4 closed when I know there is some weather coming. Have run it without the tonneau cover on and blowing snow with no issues, the bed protects it and closing the tonneau up enough for fresh air to come in is plenty. And it helps muffle the noise and keep the noise off the ice

resurrecting this post as I’m starting to eye one up myself. Recent reviews show it as a dang good gun. Most criticisms on the cycling issues come from not having enough oil in the guides and the trigger pull is heavy for how light the gun is.

Anyone have some experience with this gun after a few years?

I am not impressed with my Green Mountain. I’ve had it for going on 4 years now and when the time comes I will not be getting another. Super inconsistent temperatures with it…like 30-40 degree swings. It makes no difference where I put the heat shield…same result. Also, the built in temp probes are wayyyyy off. I need to use an external aftermaket to even get close. Next up for me will most likely be a RecTech.

I had this issue with my GM and after talking to support, I was able to get it really close after changing the settings in the app (if you have a wifi model). Their customer service is pretty good I would say. The food temp probe stopped working after a year and they sent me a new probe and a new internal control box.

I was disappointed with the amount of ash in the cooking area, but this was remedied by buying better pellets

How old do you need to be before you don’t need a parent’s letter? My nephew wants to ride to Canada with my parents (his grandparents). He is 16. Does he still need a letter from both parents (divorced parents)? He has driver’s license, birth certificate, passport, vax card, etc.

    Thanks.

We went through this a month ago; my friend and I met my dad and my 15year old nephew/grandson.
They did have the consent letter ready but the border agent never asked for it. Just the passport and arrivecan/vax info. I believe my sister is the only one that filled it out and they are divorced.
It wont hurt to bring the letter otherwise it could be a PITA.

I would download the most recent software first, that’ll be what Hbird will tell you. If that doesnt do it, return it and get a garmin
