For those of you that currently have these holders flush mounted, what sized hole am I looking at drilling to accomodate the holder? I have a 1 1/4 bit and am trying to figure out if I need to go out looking for something larger.

    Thanks
    Chad

Stupid question here, but I just installed a LCX-27 with the 3000 puck. How do I know which version that I am running and whether or not I need to update?

Wade – I have decided on a larger screen model. Is there a definate advantage of going with the 28 w/ HD over the 27? Also would you recommend the 50/200 ducer or will the 200 do the job fishing the river and the big pond?

    Thanks
    Chad

Thanks for the replies. Think that I will go with the Diawa 27 and 20lb Stealth.

I did the same thing last year, but I was fortunate enough to sink up to my crotch in some nasty muck at the bottom. One of my legs was buried and I was down on my other knee. I sat traped and sinking about nose deep. Luckily I had a good friend with me that was still on solid ground that was able to yank me up.

I had quite a bit of water in my waders after that and not all of it was from the stream…..

I just received a 8′ 3″ Shimano Compre rod as a gift and am looking for a good reel. I have been looking at the line counters, but know little about trolling reels. Does anybody have a suggestion?

I think that your boat sounds like it should do OK on the lake. With that said, if you want to take out a launch to get an idea of spots, I have used Dennis at St. Alban’s Bay several times over the last few years and have never come off the water disappointed.

Thanks for the suggestions all. I think that I will try the locksmith angle before the dealer.

It was 2.95 in Apple Valley and 3.25 in Farmington today. Can’t wait to top off the 27 gallons in the boat and 20 in the truck. I might have enough money left over for a can of Copenhagen and minnows/ leeches if I am lucky. Unfortunately, that is my flexible funds for the rest of the month!

Welcome Mark. I too spent many years away from home in the Army and am now trying to figure out the “ways” of these Wall-eye vets. We have a lot to learn, but I guarentee that we will have alot of fun and plenty of stories made in the process!!!

I would not ever even try and taste it or land it. It is one of those things I respect enough to cut the line or not shoot it to begin with. A fish that size has lived many years is my guess and should be free to live many more..

    What Glenn said…….

You certainly don’t want 3 battery’s in a small boat with a 5 horse pushing it.

2 group 24 or 27’s Deep Cycles will be sufficient.

I got the impression that’s not his current boat anymore, atleast that’s what I went by…

Correct. New boat is 17′ 10″ Crestliner

    Crystal clear thanks!

Would a 3 bank charger be good for a rig with 2 deep cycles and a starter battery?

If your keeping your trolling motor 12 volt i would have one starting battery. and 2 inline 12 volt batterys for trolling motor.{ more capacity} DK.

    Please explain “inline” 12 volts

    What is the boat?

    17′ 10″ Crestliner with a 70 horse Yamaha

What are you going to be primarily using it for?

River fishing and Back-trolling for Wall-eye

The boat is an 88 that the original owner had custom built by Crestliner. Aluminum gauge is thicker and decks are thicker. All said, it was used under 30 times in the last 19 years. Basically brand new. I may have to build a few cabinets for battery storage, but I would rather go overkill than run my batteries dead in the middle of the lake.

Also, if I go with 2 deep-cycle for the trollers and 1 starting battery what charger would you recommend?

Unfortunately, I work the 28th 7a-7p. I may have to book a trip for an on the water demonstration this summer. I will have to check out the Edge sonars. Honestly, I have never heard much about them, but I haven’t been looking at electronic for that long.

On the ice, my running joke with my buddies is that I use superior products, Marcum. I may have to bite my tounge or black out the Vexlar label if I pick an Edge up

I would recommed the Vexilar Edge 3 color sonar and a Lowrance GPS. The Vexilar Edge is really easy to use and the detail is incredible. After using the Edge you will gain confidence on every outing that you know you are finding fish.. My GPS unit is a Lowrance 4900m and I use the Lakemaster chips.

This post is about a year old, do you still feel that this is the best combination or are there any newer units that your would suggest in place of either of these?

I need to outfit a boat that does not have any electronics on it and although I do not have an unlimited budget, I would rather not do it on the cheap and want to upgrade in a year.

Is there a benfit to a B&W display on the GPS unit?

Also, with the Vex/ Lowrance combo at the wheel, what are you running at the bow position?

    Thanks in advance!

That is tragic. I hope they find him safe and sound. Great store and people. My thoughts and prayers to his family.
