I would check deeper water during the day but walleyes this time of year are putting on the feed bags. I would fish late afternoons into the night and use shallow diving stick baits in shallow water. Look for weedlines and shallow flats. They will be there.

I use to have a ford expedition, pretty sure it was very similar wiring system and I would blow two fuses. It was a bad ground wire I finally repaired correctly.

January 11, 2022 at 3:40 pm #2089000New Orleans has alot to offer. The must stops are..
Pat O’Briens for a hurricane.
Cafe Dumond for Benieghs and good coffee.
The central grocery. It is a 50’s throwback grocery store. Get a muffeletta sandwich there. They are amazing.
Jean Lafittes bar is a fun stop. It is the oldest bar in New Orleans.
There are carriage rides and of course there is the casino.
If you like day trips go see the Destrahan plantation. It is a great look into the old Southern culture and history.
Lots of great restaurants,I would stay away from the street vendors, their food isn’t as good generally. Definitely try some good seafood gumbo and shrimp or crayfish etouffe.
Have fun but be safe. Absolutely stay in the touristy areas. Lots of crime outside.January 4, 2022 at 2:10 pm #2086607Two fast growing trees are the white pine and the white poplar. The white poplar has a normal tree shape unlike some other poplars that are skinny and not good shade or eye appeal. The white poplar grows very fast and unlike some trees, you can enjoy them in your lifetime. I am a fan of both the white pine and white polar for that reason.
I like maples too but most of the varieties are pretty slow growing so it might be advisable to go with bigger specimens. 3 inches in diameter is a pretty good tree. Check with nurseries in your driving range. Some will have auctions on their stock that has already been dug in the fall. I know spring is best but I have planted alot of trees in the fall and only lost 1. The key to planting trees anytime is to make sure you don’t leave any air pockets around the root ball.make sure you have plenty of loose dirt to fill around and then water the crap out of it. Especially that first time.July 19, 2021 at 9:10 pm #2049327My wife has the Yeti, I have the Walmart knockoff. They both keep ice equally as long, which is a long time, but I could buy 4 or 5 from Walmart to equal one Yeti.
May 7, 2021 at 9:58 pm #2035474Check out Pikedale over by Bear island. Great owners, motel rooms or cabins, close to good fishing. Pretty sure they are open through October.
May 5, 2021 at 12:01 pm #2034830Garrison reef is a terrific place for walleye and small mouth. It is close to shore and the boat launch in Garrison. It is also a huge piece of structure. Get a good map of the lake if you don’t have a chip for your locator. If the wind picks up,three mile is a really good spot on the east side. For largemouth, try one of the many small lakes around mille lacs. Two good lakes are Borden and Farm Island. Down where you are staying, there is a really good reef by rainbow island. Bring a mask wherever you go. Usually need to wear one but most bars and restaurants, once inside,no mask.
January 17, 2021 at 8:31 pm #2006935Thunderbird is my favorite place to stay up there. Sha sha is a great place to have a good meal, you can watch the boats fishing black bay right there. Pretty nice slice of heaven up there. Had one of my best days ever fishing out on Olsen’s reef. The kid and I were busy!!!🎣
January 17, 2021 at 8:15 pm #2006932Hi Joe, I lived in the area about 20 years ago. I have hunted silver springs but I think there are better options. Check out desplaines wildlife area, it is run the same,on pay to hunt days, you either have a reservation you can apply for or go standby in case they don’t fill up. They usually fill up. Green river, out west, south of dixon was my favorite but a bit of a drive. Out in that area is Rogers hunt club but that is all pay to hunt, still a good option for a new pup.During the season, look into Steward wildlife area. I helped plant the cover out there with the Dnr and our sportsman’s club. I think you have to mail in an application. I was in the area when crp was big and had a blast on private land but those days were going fast when I left in 2001. Good luck and post pictures!!!😎
February 3, 2014 at 9:16 am #1385431I have a place in Sherwood forest and would be there even if the lake is bad. There are so many other lakes within 10 miles that have great fishing, lots of things to do inside and outside of the grounds, short drive from the cities and Mille lacs will always offer something, be it walleyes Smallmouth, Northern or just the great sunsets.
April 1, 2012 at 8:16 pm #1054705It might be your transducer. I had similar issues and changed the transducer, problem solved. I think lowrance has had issues with transducers going bad on occassion. Good luck.

February 22, 2012 at 2:52 am #1041595Craguns on gull lake. They have all kinds of activities for kids, really good fishing, golf, zorbaz for pizza, and if you want you can drive over to Mille Lacs to fish. Craguns has a beach and indoor pool, and often run specials. Pm me if you want a couple of other nearby lakes for good fishing if you go. Pat
February 2, 2012 at 6:55 pm #1034725Check out bear head state park up by Ely. Probably the prettiest state park in Mn. They have canoes you can rent.

January 8, 2012 at 2:23 am #1025698This seems to be an excellent idea. If the average person knew how many things were invented/developed by young college students in research, you would be amazed!Best idea I have heard. ,
December 16, 2011 at 9:51 pm #994841I bought a pair of sleds and a trailer from arnie about 6 years ago. You are right, they are rentals from out west but I never had a problem with the ones I bought. The better sleds are sold first with fewer miles on them so if you decide to buy from arnie, sooner is better. He is a pretty good guy and I would do business with him again.
December 11, 2011 at 6:06 pm #1016712I was on mille lacs using a drift sock when I noticed I was moving a little fast. To my dismay, I saw my drift sock came untied and was gone. As I was reeling in, I felt a weight and thought what could be the chances? Yep hooked and retrieved my own drift sock. Put up a pretty good fight by the way.
November 11, 2011 at 1:45 pm #1008219Heading up today for the night bite. My son and I will be fishing the Myr Mar area depending on the wind. Looks good for tonight. Good luck everyone and be safe! Will post up tommorrow or Sunday.
October 18, 2011 at 7:18 pm #1002367Hi,
I have been to Jamaica twice. It all depends on where you are at in Jamaica as for things to do. Montego bay is where you will probably fly into. It has a great margaritaville with a waterslide that dumps you into the turquise waters of the carribean. Really fun. Where ever you stay, I highly reccommend snorkeling. Lots of cool fish. You can combine this with a catamaran tour and make a half day of it. Negril imho, is the best place to go. You can go to rick’s cafe and watch or jump from the cliffs, and watch the sunset, go to seven mile beach, rent waverunners or parasail. It is really smooth in jamaica, rent from the local vendors, they will also take you fishing or snorkeling for an agreed upon price. Start low, about half of what they ask is normal. They have dunns river falls over by ochos rios which is cool but they get considerably more rain on that side of jamaica. Try the appletons rum and the blue mountain coffee but avoid the white lightning!! I am speaking from the voice of experience, it will kick your butt. Also the jerk chicken is awesome!! There are lots of tours and excursions but nothing beats the beach. Jamaica is a great time, treat the locals with respect and most will reciprocate. Have fun!!!
