This just happened to me last weekend. I am going to put on a new bobber stop and may even put 2 on. I haven’t used it a lot but its a first time that happened. I’m hoping the slip just wasn’t tight.

The profiles of the 2 sizes are the same. the spool size is the difference.
The 500: 2/165/4/85 6/65.
The 1000: 2/280 4/140 6/110.

I am running 4lb Flouro on the 500 for crappies/bonus walleye and 6lb for walleyes.

If you are choosing one, go with the 1000 so you options. You can always using backing for lighter test line.
