Thanks guys, I will check them out.
I wonder how many could fish out of a 27′ pontoon?
13-14?
Hey Brian, I think Favre was with the Jets last time I was on here. Hope all is well.

Hey Brian, I think Favre was with the Jets last time I was on here. Hope all is well.
I have “Down East” rodholders and love them. They are all metal and are the “pull straight up” type of release. They clamp on boats with thin gunnels. Tough as nails and smooth as long as you lube the hinges once a year or so. Nice thing is you can move them around.
The water temp Wednesday night was 63 on Pool 2. Fished from 8pm to about 12 am. Only got a nice channel and 5lb sheepie.I hope to get out this weekend and chase some flats again…might be the last weekend of the year to do it,considering how fast the water temp is dropping.
We have been using smaller shad from 4 to 6 inches. The “fresher” the better.
Incredible pics! Thanks guys.
How do you think that camera would work in the summer? Half as clear those pics would still be great.

No worries here big guy.
Big guy?? Hey now youre getting personal!!!!
Thanks guys.
I was outta line with that jab. I’m sorry about that Brian. I guess I’m a little touchy now that money is getting scarce.
It a good thing you guys keep it civil on here. There is too much garbage on other websites as it is, you all handle it very well here despite my faults.
Now how about them GIANTS!!!!!!!!!!!! What a game that was!!!!!
Man Belichick looked like he was going to keel over in that postgame interview.
Lazy? I’m lazier. I dont want to drive to Mpls every time I need bait…or pay for it. If you live close to Moore’s, good for you. But I am not in the business of selling Moore’s. I couldn’t afford to go fishing much if every time I needed two dozen baits I went out and bought them. If you like to spend money, dont have any time, or are not hardcore into flatheads, the baitshop can be a good option. If a guy is seriously trying to get into flatheads, I will tell him the best and cheapest way I know how to do it. Without a sales pitch.
Thats awesome! Thanks for the pics. I am suprised the visibility is that good. I wonder if it would be as clear up here on Pool 2. Those cameras would be a blast to play around with.
If its lively a flathead will eat it. I had a huge fish snap my line while using a 12″ drum for bait. I would not hesitate to use drum again if I didnt have anything else.
Put a lively bait in the right spot and you will have as good of a chance as anyone catching flatheads.
Stcroixer, if you are serious about flathead fishing you should learn to catch your own bait. Not only is it way cheaper (nearly free) but wild bait is always a better bait. Good luck!
I used 30lb Ande for flatheads when I first started. I have also use it in 8lb, 12lb, 20lb, and 50lb test. It is very tough line and abrasion resistant. It’s high quality line and will work great. It seems to have more memory than Trilene though but that’s not much of a problem on baitcasting outfits. I use all trilene now but next year I might try 25lb stren and see how it compares. Its always fun to try something new I think, sometimes you find something you really like!
like suzuki said, CASH deal only. Dont wait around for that putz and tell him if it sells before he gets here, tough cookies. I would not hold a boat for anyone I havent met in person. Good luck.
I hear you Dave. I will probably end up getting some new parts but I dont want to deal with this issue in the future, Its almost like the floats are too big since they keep rubbing on the edge of the bowl. I can see it clear as day. They are just too darn close, especially with that brass tab in between. The needles are clean and free, so I think they are fine. I just need clearance for the floats.
I would have worn gloves too. That is one rough looking cat. I’ve seen a couple oddballs in my day but none that extreme!
Except with you Steve, it would be…”Pug left the ceiling fan on”.
I have not hunted there, and its been a long time since I spent any time there, but from what I saw near Jensen lake was some pretty dense forest. Lots of oak trees if I remember right. And it was very hilly terrain. Good luck on your hunt there. I am sure you’ll bag a nice one.

Good point Kev. You have a very unique situation on your lake. I wouldnt use light gear there either.

It probably would be fun to use lighter equipment….until you lose a fish of a lifetime.
Good point and its well taken. I have had that mindset for a long time in regards to flatheads. But I know I have already lost some great fish on my heavy gear. I think some fish just arent catchable given certain circumstances. One thought I have is how many fish have I missed because they werent hooked very good and I tried to horse them in? I dont know. I try to fish areas where I can play and land a fish with some confidence. You can fish deep in the woodpiles with 60lb mono and still lose fish in that mess. A year ago I was actually thinking about going heavier. Anyways, good conversation guys!
Whiskerkev…you gotta set your drag a little lighter.
I forgot to mention, what about finnicky fish? I have noticed in many cases the lighter rod and line seems to catch more fish when put up against the tuna sticks. Some people think that flatheads are just raging eating machines, but many of you know they can be very subtle in taking a bait. Almost like a walleye. I heard a guy mention once he had a pet flathead and many times when he fed it, the catfish would just hold the baitfish halfway in his mouth until it stopped moving. Then it would eat, sometimes a minute or two later. I guess what I’m saying is there could be a balance between brute strength and a finesse approach.
Oh yeah… Hey Rollin, I want to see how big your flatheads are when you actually start watching your rod tip! …….
We caught a few flatheads on cut shad this year too (on the Miss). None that big, though. They seem to hit cutbait in the later part of the summer and into fall.
I have fished Woman for years. Its a great lake for panfish, pike, and walleye. It can be a tricky lake to fish though as its big, the water is VERY clear and the fish can be spooky at times. There are several bays that have good fishing, Broadwater bay is one of them. If you stay mobile, you should have some good luck. Lake finder should have a decent map for you. We usually fish in the bays near weedlines, drop-offs or rock piles. Horseshoe island and Government point are some popluar spots. As far as resorts, there are a few. The only one I can recall is Woman Lake Lodge.
FYI *All northern pike 24″-36″ must be released. One over 36″ is allowed.
Good luck!
