Possibly a bad resistor on the board, that’s what happened to mine. Sent it in got a new transducer and fixed the board. $125+ return shipping. Also comes with a additional 1 year warranty
If you plan on using plasti-dip don’t make the same mistake I did. Find the plastic primer and shoot that first before you apply the actual coat.

I have no complaints with this in 2lb fluorescent pink, shows up good doesn’t seem to spook the fish.
Having the same thing going on, but only with one of the batteries.
JRs treated me pretty good, definitely a better night bite from my experience.
Ice hoppers are a great lower cost alternative. Was fishing north Central Iowa last season and the owner of the bait shop/guide service was impressed with them and we compared them to the Kathoolas and they are virtually the same.
Talked with Eskimo yesterday, 3.9 lbs 8″, 3.2 lbs 6″. Was told it cuts a bit faster than the KDRILL, and much smoother.
Look up the stocking report for saugeyes, the state has been putting those in some smaller reservoirs.
Note on all custom rods: if you are wanting a “visual” fiberglass will be your best bet, if you want to “feel” the bite carbon/graphite is what I would recommend.
I’ve built on everyone of his blanks except the deadstick and Laker blank as they are new this year. They are great quality blanks. My rundown from ice shanty –
Quick update on the Bass Khang blanks, first impressions, packaged well, downside they were not labeled, but easy enough to figure out.
Finesse noodle, super soft tip extends back to around 6-7 inches, leads into a solid backbone light/ultralight, will make a killer panfish Slayer for tiny tungsten jigs.
Panfsh noodle, very soft tip extends back 6-7 inches as well leads smoothly into a medium/light rod also going to be a panfsh killer from tiny tungsten to small jigging spoons or a #4 slab rap, reminds me of a TUCR precision noodle.
Power noodle, WOW! Softer tip, slightly more firm than the previous 2 rods, ample medium backbone, good for small through medium jigging spoons, jigging raps, slab and rippin’ raps. I’m guessing similar to a bull whip.
Perch carbon, solid rod, fastest tip of the 4 I ordered ability for tiny tungsten to medium jigging spoons, good all around rod, will not excel in super delicate presentations, but will suffice.
Got the Panfish carbon and walleye carbon in today, and it’s another home run!
Panfsh Carbon – Super light weight rod, slower tip than the perch carbon, when a load was applied it has a curve almost like a fiberglass noodle where the last 5-6″ have lots of flex then has a slow taper into a nice “light/medium-light” backbone. Would classify this as an ultralight carbon rod, but with the backbone for large perch and up to medium walleye 17-20″ (that would be a great battle!) I think this rod will excel in super delicate presentations where you almost need the rod motionless, I could watch my heartbeat on the tip of the rod holding it as still as possible.
Walleye Carbon – another super light weight blank, very fast tip with an aggressive taper into one of the most solid backbones I’ve seen! This will be the rod to use for your larger baits, #5 rippin’ raps, larger spoons and stop signs, jigging raps, also super sensitive and should transmit the bite well to the angler. I would think mono would be the best on this blank because of how little flex there is throughout the length of the blank.
Just my initial impression of these two blanks, when I get a full build done, I’ll probably revisit this thread or start a new one with completed rods.

Self fusing silicone tape, same stuff as reel tape, just cheaper.[/quot
Where do you get it?
Sorry for the late reply, I usually hit up Amazon for it, just search for it, lots of colors and width options.
The F.E.T. is 10% up to $10, this is an additional tax on top of the other taxes paid out, city/state/federal…etc. This tax applies to the manufacturer of the final product. I’ve been doing my research on what I need to do to start up. All I really want is to pay for my fishing “toys” and provide people with an affordable custom/hand made fishing rod.
My 2¢
I built mine at full 36″ length, and absolutely love it! Great hole hopping rod if you are over 6′ tall, will handle the smallest tungsten jigs to #5 rippin’ raps.
Bass Khang walleye carbon 36″ – $7, Sportsman Direct extreme taper carbon lengths 32″-48″ $13-18, Sportsmen Direct IHS carbon 32″ “heavy” $16
Expedition Outdoors Anorakk Suit is another overlooked option out there. I really like mine, I paid $225 from Marine General for the whole set.
Don’t forget to put a loop of rope on the handle.
Even then, sometimes that’s not enough, RIP frabill ice chisel, it was fun while it lasted.
Contact Clear Lake Bait and Tackle, they should have all the info you need or maybe the Chamber of Commerce.
Ice Hopper Creepers fit my size 14 Baffins, with no problems. Sportsman Direct carries them for $50
If you want to see the bite but have good backbone my vote would be a noodle rod from one of the good makers. Most of them have soft tips that quickly transition into a pretty solid backbone.
I make my own so I can’t comment too much on which to get but I’ve handled TUCR noodles and they seem nice. The Bullwhip might be a bit better for <em class=”ido-tag-em”>perch depending on what size baits you’ll be using.
Actually I had a DH Al Dente that I sold a while back. It was just slightly heavier in the tip than I wanted for small tungsten jigs but might be about right for small perch spoons, etc.
DH is a bit cheaper too. TUCR rods are nice I’m sure but the recoil guides add significantly to the cost.
Or learn how to build them if you have the time and interest. Not a whole lot of startup cost, and you can make some pretty quality stuff at a fair price.

I agree with you, building your own is rewarding. This will be the first year that I fish with 100% rods that I made, I think I’m up to 9 now a mix between carbon and glass blanks. Check out Bass For some awesome and affordable blanks, I have built on everyone that they offer and they will all have a place in the rod locker.

Thanks guys, we are going to fish unguided for two days, then we will be going out with Kevan Paul on January 10 hopefully coming home with a nice mess of yellows. I doubt that my group will try and target the Muskie, but what would be a good set up for them?
Going to run all custom rods this year, which is pretty easy because I make them in my spare time. Going to build off the Bass Khang ice blanks. Maybe one day I can get business like TUCR or Thorne Bros… maybe
