I am having the same issue with my Elite 5. I emailed Lowrance a while ago and got this reply.
“The Elite units are currently reading the mapping detail different from the HDS units. We are looking into this issue.”
I would guess at some point they will release an update for the Elite 5. I keep hoping it gets fixed soon because the chip is not all that usable without depth markings.

They already are stocking pool 2 with muskies. They are getting put into Spring Lake. I have not heard of anyone fishing them. I think the people who do fish them are probably even more secretive then normal. I have heard of a few getting caught by other people, like this one.

I typically drill two holes and put the transducer in one of them, if I am fishing in a shack. I never really understood the float either.
I was noticing it was kind of hard to read the screen yesterday when I was in my shelter, the soft pack was getting in the way. I probably should have moved it around to see if I could find a better angle.

You can also get a Lakemaster chip for Garmin GPS’s.

Awesome post like always. That moonlight is a cool looking fish. It would be a nice aquarium fish if they sold them over here.
Do you have any pictures of your aquarium?

I enjoy reading your reports. I have a pearl gouramy in my fish tank. So, it is nice to see where they originate from.

The channel does get shut down. I am not sure what time they shut it down but it is pretty close to the start of fireworks. Then it is open right when they are done.

I had the same thing happen with my XOG and the Navionics 2009 chip. I could make way points on some spots but the places I wanted to mark to fish did not work. I tried it once when on the lake and it made a waypoint but I did not play with it much since I knew the lake and did not have much time to fish. I was just borrowing the chip so I did not try to trouble shoot it. The chip worked fine in the owners iFinder. I figured it was just a glitch with the XOG.

The once I fished out of a QuickFish III (green model) the windward side collapsed a couple times on us. The first time it scared the poop out of me. I kind of envisioned a fireball if the heater was near that wall. The wind was gradually picking up when we were fishing, otherwise we probably would have used the ropes. I would imagine on a windy day the ropes would fix that problem. The shack was new to the person I was fishing with as well. It seemed like the door was in an awkward spot for hole placement. I am sure after using it a couple times you would figure out the best hole configurations. It took quite a while to get it back in the bag. I think the bag could have about two inches more in diameter. Since it was cold and blowing we just put it 3/4 of the way into the bag and called it good enough. If we drove on the ice it probably would have stayed out of the bag. Setup was fast and easy.
For the price it is a pretty nice shack.

I was out yesterday as well on a small metro lake. I drilled at least 40 holes and never marked a fish. Your report gives me a little hope that it was just not just my technique yesterday. It was still a nice day on the ice for me. The weather made it decent to hole hop.

Do you think you can still buy a 2008 fishing licence in March?

If I am planning on staying in the same spot I just drill another hole next to the hole I am going to fish.

I saw that picture and immediately thought about the sturgeon. Also he was not holding it properly, not that it matters since it was on the stringer.

You ride close to shore because the water is the calmest there. I am sure I have been closer than 150’ before. I do not think 150’ is all that far away from shore. I know Prior has buoys out at the 150’ mark and they are pretty close to shore.

Dan – I guess I should have worked on my wording. I know we do not own the lake. We keep our distance from boats that are fishing. Typically the few boats that come near us to fish go right up by shore.

Wakeboarding is a big industry now. I too get annoyed by all the wakeboarding boats on the lake. When I started we used to be the only ones on a lake riding. Now there are at least three boats.

I enjoy both sports as well. Even when I am wakeboarding we get angry at the other wakeboarders. I still do not think a boat pulling a wakeboarder is going to get that close to another boat. They would be riding at least 55’ behind the boat. If they are actually 15 yards (45 feet) away they are way to close and put the rider in danger. You can always go talk to them and tell that nicely that they are driving too close to boats. We have been talked to by a few boats in the past. Most of them are skiers that do not like us throwing rollers down the course they are skiing.

Occasionally we get fisher people that like to pull up and start fishing in the line we have been riding. I would think they would have noticed we had been riding that shoreline for hours. Most of the time after a couple passes they move since I would not want to keep getting pounded by our wake.

Like most of us I have been on the receiving end of the wakes as well. It is not fun battling the large rollers. We just need to all get along. The boats are only going to get bigger, heavier and throw bigger wakes.

I launched out of Lilydale yesterday. Since I had read this thread I made an effort to look for the catch and release sign. The sign is very hard to see and has graffiti all over it. What I found most interesting is it has a ending date of 1999 for catch and release only. I should have taken a picture of it but I did not feel like pulling the camera out of the boat. Maybe I misread the sign but if you have never fished there before it would seem like you can keep walleyes.

You can buy pickles at the store in gallon jars. So you could reuse the jar, but I do not know anything about pickling.
