My parents are in their 80s and winter in Florida. I finally discovered that a package from Omaha Steaks is actually appreciated.

When I was a younger man living in Omaha I did telemarketing for Omaha Steaks around the holidays. Pay was great and it was inbound orders so pretty low stress. The steaks were good but the hot dogs are where it’s at. Nothing wrong with a tube steak for Christmas.

I agree on the charges…the Noco charges are really nice.

Weathertec makes a really nice car wash bucket kit. That’s a good gift. Weathertec has a ton of cool stuff like bump steps, phone holders, etc.

Ram mounts make some nice phone mounts for in the boat.

Aftco and Grundens have some good clothing that is kinda unique. Aftco has a hoodie with built in neck gator that’s really nice.

You can always buy a Scheels gift card…boring but I love getting GC’s so I can just buy what I want.

Last would be a donation to the Human Fund in his name. Who gets that reference?

The #1 QB recruit coming out of HS just committed to Colorado. Prime’s not going anywhere.

I don’t think so…I think he’ll stay in college but now that his kids and Travis Hunter will be gone he’ll make a move to somewhere like Florida or Florida State.

If he does go to the NFL it seems like Vegas might be the best fit. Brady is now on the ownership team and I think they’ll be a better run franchise that Dallas.

Thanks Jon Hi, I’ve had MRI, Cat Scans, xrays, PT, Chiropractic, two failed steroid injections, decompression. It seems to get really bad if I drive my pickup mote then 2 hours.Recently i was managing the pain with just ibuprofen but then drove over to Stewart MN to drop my boat and then drove to Rochester MN for a weekend photoshoot. This reaggaravated my pain and I could hardly walk. So there is a corelation between hours in my F150 and severe pain.

Buzz, correlation and causation are two different things. Sounds like you’re convinced the truck is the issue you can get a new truck or a new seat but pretty soon there will be other causes of the pain. A new truck is an expensive fix.

There are a bunch of good options mentioned from members, including myself, that have dealt with severe back issues. I hope you get relief because back pain is excruciating. Good luck.

Good luck with your taste. Wife and I had it in 2020 the 1st go around we both loss our taste it was light turn off a light switch. I go mine back 4 days later again the light switch. My wife still doesn’t have hers back. Sometimes she thinks that she can sense some taste but still thinks that it is just wishful thinking. She has tried just about every home health remedy herb/oils etc remedies vitamin remedies everything that is the latest and greatest Nothing is working for her

One thing she may want to try is acupuncture. I’ve lost taste due to other medical treatments and that’s one thing that was recommended to me. It’s a long shot but might be worth it.

If it’s not a super long stay, I just park my car 1-2 blocks away from the 50th street lightrail station in residential parking, and then walk to the light rail. It’s about a 10 min light rail ride to the airport from there. I’ve done it about 12 times without any issues.

What happens if there is a snow emergency?

The city doesn’t spend taxpayer money on snow removal anymore. Too many entitlements to fund so we just wait for the snow to melt in the spring…

The IC is the way to go. We live 15 mins from MSP but when we have 0500 flights for vacation we use it. It’s a bit more spendy if you don’t have a Chase card but the convenience and time savings are well worth it. Not to mention you save about 1-2 hours which is a lot when you have an early flight. In EPG time it’s about 2-4 Bloody Mary’s. Can’t put a price on that!

Wrong audience. People that live in apartments or paycheck to paycheck aren’t going to buy a quarter beef and certainly can’t afford a freezer. My point is that Smithfield fills a niche for lower income families. You make valid points but your solution doesn’t fit this demographic.

Are you saying the demographic of this group or of the country as a whole are living in apartments and living from paycheck to paycheck. I get the feeling often that you believe there are only the rich and the poor in this country. There is a large group of people inbetween those two groups. Far more people who you believe are to poor to afford a freezer and a 1/4 of beef could do so if they cut out a lot of the other silly crap they spend their money on

You really have no idea what I believe so don’t speculate.

If you think that a large swath of the American public is going to buy a freezer and purchase meat in bulk to save a few bucks I completely disagree with that.

Bulging disc or arthritis…just means you have something pinching the nerves or inflaming them. I assume when you sleep at night one of your legs or your feet tingle or feel numb?

These things don’t fix themselves without PT or surgery if it’s bad enough. You can ask for drugs that calm the nerves down. Gabapentin or Lyrica are common drugs that work well but they can have some goofy side effects.

Not sure how long ago you saw a doctor but go get a second opinion. Go to a Tria or Twin City Ortho location. Skip the appointments and go to their walk in clinics.

Bottom line is the truck seat isn’t the cause. You need to treat the cause.

Thought the defense played very well again, for the third straight game. Those two games against Detroit and LA were ugly on the defensive side of the ball. Granted, the Colts, Jags, and Titans aren’t exactly offensive juggernauts, but they’ve only scored a total of 20 points against the Vikings defense in that span.

Levis had 295 yards passing plus a 60 yarder called back. The Vikes need to clean up the pass defense. The pass rush and opportunistic nature of the defense continues to be impressive though.

I’d try having the seat restuffed so that it’s back to stock. Over time, the seats and cushions get really soft and you tend to sink into them. If you get new foam in them that might help.

That being said, you obviously have an underlying issue. You mentioned PT and injections. What was the original diagnosis?

The problem with buying local is very few people have access to that. I agree it’s a great option but most people don’t know a local farmer nor do they have space to keep that much meat.

The reason Smithfield and companies like them are around is because they produce cheap food. Meat is expensive and Smithfield fills a void to provide meat at a reasonable price.

I agree they are absolute criminals and instead of fines the senior leadership should be charged with crimes. Unfortunately, that’s not going to happen and these guys will continue to skirt the laws.

People in today’s society don’t like planning ahead and live for immediacy. Want some steaks? …pick them up on the way home. Burgers tonight? …there’s some pre-pattied ones ready to throw on the grill at the supermarket.

I could get a person on a list for a qtr or half of beef with 6 or 7 different farmers with one call. The cost of an upright freezer would be covered with product savings in no time. Local farmers don’t care/need to advertise or compete. They’re content with their margins on the best, most healthy meat products around. I wish there was more of a push or education on the topic. Some of the “meat” that is sold in this country is not only garbage, but tastes like it in comparison too

Wrong audience. People that live in apartments or paycheck to paycheck aren’t going to buy a quarter beef and certainly can’t afford a freezer. My point is that Smithfield fills a niche for lower income families. You make valid points but your solution doesn’t fit this demographic.

Macalaster-Groveland and Highland Park (StP) and Longfellow and Nokomis (MPLS) are still pretty nice areas of the cities. I mention these four because they all touch the river. I have spent almost 40 years in those neighborhoods about once or twice a month … even living there for 6 months or so. I would say those areas are still very nice and remain pretty safe. I have no issue walking in either area … People are still trying to move there at a pretty good pace.

That said, you do not have to go too far to find trouble and trouble skirts in and out of those areas on occasion. The city and the press do a pretty good job keeping the violence reports quietly hidden.

I live a mile west of Nokomis. You’re right you don’t have to go far to find trouble…that’s called Richfield. Don’t drive through there at night. jester

I knew when I posted this that a certain few posters would sieze the opportunity to cry “the city is a cesspool!”

Another good trip to the river this morning.

Still waiting on a call back from the responding officer, not gonna hold my breath.

I agree…there are a lot of posters on IDO that claim the city is a cesspool but have never spent anytime here except maybe going to a Vikings or a Wild game.

EPG…my folks had a place near Harriet in the mid 70’s. The city was giving away homes with low interest loans to try and clean it up. They moved because that area was too unsafe for them. This idea that the city was better a few decades ago is a fallacy. We’re going to have to agree to disagree on this.

    Tyson said this yesterday:

“There are no feelings attached,” Tyson said. “My own mother should be very careful if she has to get in the ring with me. When it’s over, it’s over. But while the process is going on, my intention is to hurt him. I hope he has the same intentions, or he is in trouble.”

That’ll give you chills. I hope we get the old Iron Mike and he eviscerates Jake Paul. That’d be a win for us old guys.

I was born and raised in S. Mpls 3rd precinct. I moved out 30 years ago when it started getting bad. It brings me to tears when I have to drive thru my old neighborhood. The people running that once great city just infuriates me.
It’s very sad to hear what happened to you Dirtywater, but it seems to be an everyday occurrence in todays world.
My advice is not a gun or knife, it’s a for sale sign.

Sorry EPG but this just doesn’t jive. I’ve been in S MPLS for 23 years and have never felt unsafe or felt like my neighborhood was somewhere we needed to leave. I have friends in the suburbs who have had their homes broken into in broad daylight while they were home…bad stuff happens anywhere.

I’m with DW…we love our neighborhood and the area around us. I know the city isn’t for everyone but it’s not the cesspool people on IDO make it out to be.

I do agree the city council is a major problem but that has started to change slightly. The “defund the police” movement showed a lot of residents that the city council is completely devoid of common sense. It still needs a lot of work though.

That’s a pretty common spot on the river to walk the shoreline. Maybe going back was questionable but I wouldn’t consider that a sketchy spot at all.

A knife is the absolute worst self defense weapon

Would not be high on my list, But better than nothing. All the points you made are valid though. A handgun is not for everyone. I’m just glad its a choice for those who prefer it.

I have a handgun at home but I realized CC wasn’t for me. I’ve done a fair amount of self defense training and you find out that in many cases guns make the situation go from bad to worse. Not always the case but most people have never shot in a life or death situation so you have to be very honest with yourself if you could actually shoot.

Pepper spray or batons allow you to inflict some serious damage quickly so you can get out of the situation.

Sorry to hear about the encounter DW. I had a pretty scary one at night along the river which prompted me to start asking the same questions you are.

Back at the river with my girl this morning. We talked an extra minute about neutralizing threats. And the knife was ready just in case.

A knife is the absolute worst self defense weapon. If you have to try and get a knife out the fight is probably already over. I understand a gun may not be for you (I had a CC and let mine lapse) but get the pepper spray or get yourself a tactical baton. At least you can keep some distance between you and an attacker.

First rule of self defense is get the hell out of the area to somewhere safe. Second rule is to keep distance between you and an attacker. You are up close and personal with a knife. It also probably won’t stop an attacker if they are high.

I keep a tactical baton in all my cars and on me if I feel it’s needed. Along the river it’s needed based upon my experience.

Sometimes pie but that’s a little more of a logistical challenge.

Outside of the top 4 teams in the conference the rest is an absolute crapshoot. Oregon, OSU, Indiana, and PSU are all good teams. The rest can beat each other any weekend.

    Except Purdue. Purdue sucks.

Got out Friday. Slow. 5 eyes. 1 massive 19” white bass and a good size pike.biggest eye was only 22”. Durning this time and later yet, do the eyes tend to be deeper? All summer i was fairly dialed. Averaging 40-60 eyes in a solid day out 2-3 guys. Now I’m struggling to put a decent day together. Tried the usual community spots but mainly tried and caught fish durning the day in 7-14 foot. Didn’t try much deeper than 16-18 yet.

Very simple rule for late fall…as the water temp falls and the water is clear, fish deeper during the daylight hours. As the sun sets and the bait fish move out of the backwaters, look for bait and fish shallower.

Day bite this time of year can be tough. The walleye are mainly eating at night as that’s when the bait moves into the main channel.

I’m with Joe on this one…I haven’t seen the setup you’re talking about.

My rear jump seat is a perfect spot for the shuttle to sit and for me to see it easily.

A little stain to the water when it’s low and slow should help the bite.

They are a mass produced tool. There are going to be issues with them every once in awhile but if you wanted Rapala to improve their quality to the point they never fail no one would be able to afford them.

I abuse crank baits as much as anyone here. I’ve had a few failures in the past…broken bills, back half’s of jointed raps busting, etc. But, I have a lot more Raps that you look at and wonder what the original color even was because they have been so thoroughly worn out.

And for the guys who slap the weeds off a crank at a hundred miles an hour against the surface that you might as well crack em off the boat. The force is about the same. Don’t do that.

What depths are you guys targeting right now? And how much have you slowed things down if you’re trolling? Pretty quiet couple hours for me on the upper end late this afternoon.

I assume you mean above the confluence? The water is probably getting cold enough that bite is gonna slow down, especially during the day.

If you’re going to troll during the day I’d be out towards the main channel and starting to slow down. As the sun goes down I’d move to the shorelines.
