I’m looking forward to playing with the baitcaster some more. Picked up a tatula 100 last year struggled a bit then finally got a grip on it so I added a tatula sv to the arsenal and boy boy is that a dream to cast. And someone is holding on to $200 worth of cabelas gift cards looks like another sv is in my future. Other than that plopping some big smallies on the river, man that never gets old.

Guys seriously thanks for all the input. The reason I want to go with carpentry goes deeper than starting a career. Growing up I would help my grandpa do side jobs (I was too young to really help so it was get the hammer, need more nails etc.) but whether it was hanging dry wall, framing a room or knocking down walls for a bigger room, siding, even spraying the ceiling texture or pop corn. He wasn’t even a carpenter by trade he drove a dump/plow truck. That was just life skills people had back in the day. I like the fact once you get the hang of it understanding your cuts/angles ways to fasten making sure things are square the windows of opportunity with just being crafty like EPG’s smitty sled he built with what i’m assuming was just scrap wood he had laying around. It’s a skill I want I like building things I like using my hands and having to think about it.

Look I’m all for a good joke and giving/taking crap, but when someone at a low in their life and trying to better their situation and asking for legit help and info and in return you get sarcasm and assume one is to understand it as sarcasm that’s when you make an ass out of you and me. Maybe I will check out cosmetology… not really though and thank you everyone for the info and help and too the ones giving me crap hopefully I get to know you better through the forum soo someday maybe I get to dish it back out. No hard feelings here just a fellow angler trying to do better in life.

Dude, you don’t have to be rude.. Why do you think I’m trying to get into apprenticeship programs? I want to learn and I want to learn how to do it right. You know maybe I’m not in a situation in life at the moment to go college not that you care or should. This is one of the things that stops me from posting on this forum fishing related or not is when people are clearly seeking help and get smartass respones instead.

I’d go checkout Mad River outfitters youtube channel. They give a lot of good information and how to’s. I’ve learned a lot from his channel as I primarily use spin tackle but truly enjoy throwing the whippy stick around. Fly is another language of it’s own between rods being categorized in weights, floatin line, sink tip line, full sink line, tippets. Even the knots are different. It can seem a little overwhelming at 1st especially for people converting from conventional like me, but once you get start to get the hang of things it can be rewarding I find fly to be an art watching the line go through the air. My drift less set up is 9ft 5wt with floating line. One last thing spring bluegill with floating flies is a great way to practice.

My go to is good ol zing zang, but lately I’ve been getting spooky dill pickle. Also I’ve been using bourbon instead of vodka most bloodies already have a bunch of bold flavors in them so why use a tasteless spirit when you can add to the flavor profile.

Yep that was us! And spinners is on my list next year after my buddy whopped on me a few times this summer with them. The Rum is definitely a jungle, in fact I think you just gave it a new nickname for me The Jungle yay

Well we launched on the Rum between Princeton and Cambridge no action. Donated quite a bit of tackle to the river gods. In the end any day on the water is a success in my mind. Can’t believe how secluded that section of the river is really felt like I was stepping back in time. Oh and a jet is definitely required if you don’t want to bring a chainsaw with timber eveyrwhere.

Most Hy-vee’s have a aging clooer right next to their meat counter so you can see it in action and is all done in house.

Thanks for the input! We have a basic idea on what to “look for” but I think where we’re going to struggle is slowing down. Leave the bait casters at home lol

My first job when I moved to the cities was lawn care and primarily mowing. Most of our lawn was on lake minnetonka in the Wayzata area, soo multi million dollar bungalows I mean fortresses. We NEVER bagged anything other than spring thatching. When it came to fall we switched out our normal blades for gator blades which on the back side that bends upwards was serrated instead of being solid and we ran them leaves over till they confetti, and it didn’t matter how thick they were them gators chewed them up. We’d do the same in the summer when the grass was growing at it’s peak at it’s worst we’d go over 3 times and follow up with the backpack blower to “spread it out”. but when I get a house mulching is the way I’ll go.

Did a 5 day trip last year at sawbill just north of Tofte and went with 6 people which was fun but trying to plan the meals was not that was alot of food to pack so I’m looking forward to when my fiance and I get to go to our selves. But we’ve been to sawbill before and there’s a entry point right at the outfitters. Got it last year, too late this year had to get the permits to a entry point 4 lakes away. Now we had 4 portages with the longest being a mile the biggest thing I learned about that was pack light as mentioned above. We tried and failed at doing 1 trip portage where we were able to grab everything in 1 trip vs having to go back to get another load that’ll turn 1 mile into 3 miles real fast. Now for the fish we mainly got them on mister twister and jerk baits wallies, smallies and pike. And I like that anchor idea going to have to try it out.

I started with 832 and loved it then nano came out and tried it and ended up switching all the rods with nano couldn’t believe how much farther you could cast and I’m a bank beater that mainly fish rivers and I cast bombs almost every cast.. Then came the flying lures, hook set break offs, I thought I was good at inspecting my knots and line but not good enough so after paying more attention I noticed my problem was the line fraying made some adjustments the break offs weren’t as frequent. Then I tried 832 again and was satisfied with distance and even more pleased with knot/line strength felt like I could pull a tree in with the 10lb. So end of story I switched back to 832 after giving nano a shot for a solid 3 maybe 4 years. I’m willing to give up a few feet in distance for miles of knot/line strength which ultimately means confidence for me.

My fiance and I go to Sawbill canoe outfitters every year and have been quite pleased with them. They have just about everything you need if you forget to pack something they have bait as well. If you plan early enough and get your permits early they have an entry point right at the outfitters on sawbill lake the first year we went up we left at that entry point and didn’t portage once just found a camp site we liked and explored from there. Last year we didn’t get our permits early and couldn’t take off from that entry point as they only allow so many permits a day so we had to get shuttled to the next entry point which was 5 lakes away about 2 total miles of portage and 10-11 total miles still had 2 days of complete relaxation.. But I’d give sawbill a look and plus depending on where you’re from the drive from Duluth to Tofte along lake superior is absolutely stunning it’s self

I love my fusion! When I’m out chasing crappies I always have 3 rods rigged up my fusion which usually has a #3,4 rippin rap or the small slab rap, a QT which currently has the smallest jigging rap and then my PN which has a small tungsten like vmc fly or a maggot drop. Every time I drop a line in a new hole the slab rap is in 1st I call it my “fish call” normally if fish are there they’ll likely come and investigate and a lot of times they smack it which I have zero issue feel or seeing but if they don’t like that on to the QT then PN. And when it comes to “see” vs “feel” when there’s a fish on the flasher looking at my lure I’m ALWAYS looking at the tip and will slowly slowly keep raising the rod up to detect the up bites. Whenever I here “see vs feel” it tends to go in one ear and out the other with me because I watch the tip and the 1st time I stopped at the TUCR shop I had every intention on coming home with a whip but ended up with QT because I found tip on that “feel” rod to be just as delicate as the whip. And the fusion I liked because it was on the complete opposite end of the qt and I find it easier to “calm down” the more aggressive lures like slab and rippin raps could call it a slow dance vs the tango.

Well there’s a lot to digest here so I think I’m just going to work the hours they through at me this week it’s not something that happens often so I think I’ll just roll with the punches and see how it goes. And again thanks for all the input!

I’m not necessarily look at the end of the year vs what my take home is going to be I don’t want to potentially make less or not much more if I work 10 to 12 hours over vs 16 to 18. I’m learning and trying to get a better grip on all this tax stuff it’s a whole new language if you’ve been oblivious about it and didn’t really care about it much in your 20’s. But thanks for all the input

I’m not sure if the tatula has a sealed drag system but I’ve made the jump over to Daiwa from pflueger this year and purchased the ballistic and damn what a reel but I’ve noticed the drag only needs like a few clicks for any change in drag strength so a 1/4 turn may be over doing it.

I’d jump all over that little boat if I wasn’t in an apartment makes life a little difficult with lack of storage at times had to leave the flip over ice hut in Iowa and buy a pop up that’ll fit under the bed but I really appreciate the offer!!

I finally jumped the gun and purchased a pair of costa’s (not prescription) and was amazed at the clarity and just how amazing colors are with them browns really really pop out you look at a yard and see all the brown dead grass that’s normally not noticeable even looking at a grove of trees you notice the different shades of green from the different species of trees and they’re amazing on the water I’ve always bought the cheap $20 polarized shades in the past never thinking I could justify the price of a good pair of shades but now I don’t think I could go back I have a friend who able to use their HSA on a pair of prescriptions don’t know if that’s an option for you or not and if you do go down the costa route I’d look into the copper base green mirror lens.

If you’re a chevy person check out the equinox we just purchased one a few weeks ago and can’t believe the amount of space in it whether you’re in the front or the back ours has the little 2.4 inline 4 but it gets great millage we easily hit over 30’s mpg on highway and you can get in them with awd
