Found an even better deal on the predator ice suit from Reed’s than from Dick’s on cyber monday after they couldn’t fulfill my order. Jacket and bibs in XL for $300. Tomorrow it may be 40% if they have any left. I checked all the big players and the best I could get was 20% so once again Reed’s came through.

Reeds didn’t have the size for the color I was looking for. Went over to marine general talked to one of the sales people from striker she said everyone was only supposed to be doing 20% haha. Talked to a sales guy from marine general he matched the 25%. Would have stuck with reeds seems like they were open to dealing the most but happy with the deal I got that was still because of them.

I agree about the microspikes. I got them as a gift from my father in law for Christmas a few years ago. Was out last night on glaze ice with a buddy that had a standard pair. He was still slipping up a bit and I am pretty sure I could have walked up a iced up tree trunk. Very impressed with them.

I am located in the SE metro so not a far jaunt to the southern part. That sounds like fun and I would definitely take you up on that offer.

I got a hand auger for free and it broke. It’s was old nothing to do with hand augers. I was faced with the same dilemma and knew eventually would get a power auger so just ponied up the rest. Haven’t regretted it.

Got checked on Cedar in New Prague last summer. Friendly woman. Same story asked for our licenses, presented them and asked how the fishing was and told us to have a good time.

I agree they have the cap space would love for them to get a veteran for the line. I also think late in the first round you have a better chance of getting a startable WR vs an offensive lineman that is ready to go. I wouldn’t be mad with any defensive pick. With our string of LB luck I wouldn’t even mind another one. I agree that Locke has to go as well. Been a downgrade from Kluwe from the start.

I have been very interested in these. Do you know anywhere that sells then retail? I believe I saw a suit at Dicks sporting goods in Bloomington. I read about all their different suits but it would be nice to be able to look at them in person side by side to decide which one to get.

I know for a fact there is Walleye in Forest and some good ones at that. My wife caught one there and my friend’s dad lands them all the time. In fact recently an ice fishing acquaintance pulled a 30 incher out of there. I have fished medicine quite a bit as well and have yet to pull one but have talked to people that have claimed they got them out of there.

I have the Marcum Showdown Troller 2.0. I love it, however, I did just pick up a LX-5i. The showdown was a good starter for me when I was on a budget however it would be nice if it was not monochromatic. I opted for the LX-5 because I love the color separation and I needed two units for my household. That being said the showdown works great and is awesome for hole hopping especially if you use AA’s it is super light. I do have a 12v for it and it is a bit heavier but not too bad.

I was just at the Gander in Eden Prairie yesterday for some other stuff and I didn’t see them anywhere… hmm. Maybe I will give them a call. It’s possible I just missed them. Thanks!

I just got in to ice fishing last year. First purchases were rods because I had friends with equipment. I found a hand auger on CL for dirt cheap. Let me tell you in the winter of the polar vortex and winter kills it was not easy punching those holes. Good thing I didn’t know any better. I had an 8 inch strikemasger mora. The one benefit to it was when everyone was scrambling to find extensions late in the season I could still get through. Fast forward to this year. Over the summer I bought a marcum showdown troller. Good unit for me on a budget and doubles as a summer canoe unit. Late fall dicks sporting goods had a break the ice event was able to score a 2-3 person shelter for under $200 new. Bought the heater, slowly kept building the tackle and picked up a few more ice combos for a total of 4. Couple weeks ago saw a sweet deal on a entry level power auger and snatched it up. Got a tip up/ice cleats/other accessories as Christmas gifts. Sitting pretty good now. Would like to upgrade to an lx-7 and get one for the old lady as well and eventually would like to upgrade to a thermal shelter. I am eyeing up a couple of those TUCRs too. Maybe someday a 4-wheeler or sled but that is a few years out yet. It can be done with a bit of patience and deal hunting.

I live 700′ from the lake and have not drilled a hole in it in 3 years. I ice fished there for 30 years. I do not deny that some who are connected and/or operate at a higher skill level will catch fish. But for an average guy like me Lake of the Woods seldom disappoints. The 240 mile drive is well worth it.

Don, I encourage you to reconsider. I have only been fishing seriously for about five years now, and this year is only my second year on the ice. I am pretty obsessed with fishing now days and have done some research but I am about as far from an expert as they come. I am just an average angler with a fire in the belly and I was able to get on some. I am sure you could easily do the same with some effort and patience.

I was just up there last night/this morning. Like you said James the amount of 10 inch fish was pretty incredible. Obviously there was slow times, but when the bite was on and after we got the right spoons dialed in they were hitting pretty aggressively. We did not catch any keepers but did have a few that were just under or just over, which is fine because they were really healthy looking fish and released without any issue. We also hooked in to some bonus jumbo perch which was a nice surprise. We went out of the Red Door and they were doing some solid business which is good to see. Hopefully those businesses can continue to do well through the winter. All in all a good trip and encouraging for the lake. Well worth the drive!

I had my knives into Eversharp today. Dang, it’s unreal how sharp they are!!! He almost talked me into a new Wusthof fillet knife, but I resisted the urge, mainly because I figure I’d need something to fillet in order to enjoy it.

I bought a wustof filet knife from there primarily because I am a chef. I really don’t like most of the wustof products just because they are pretty hard to sharpen myself in comparison to my shun and globals. The filet knife is pleasantly easy to get back to razor sharp on a whet stone. I like it a lot. Cool store, great guy and when you get them on sales days you can get some great deals. He is also really good to people who are professional cooks and usually hooks up with a discount so nothing bad to say about the place!

It all seems pretty simple to me. We have an obligation to uphold the constitution. Not just politicians, not just government employees, not just the military but us as citizens. Take note that I said the constitution, not the government. The Constitution is the end all be all. It is the law of the land and is not a polite suggestion of how we should frame our government but something that is the foundation and the roof. This is the law and code of conduct that our government must adhere to and grants us as citizens our god given rights and the moment that the government over steps its bounds it should immediately be put back in to its place. I find it commendable that at the root it appears he was simply looking out for the American people and by questioning his superiors he was trying to go about it the right way. Does it make it justified? I don’t know but what I do know is that the Government is not effectively doing its job and has gotten completely out of hand in interfering with people’s lives, and the American public has grown complacent and soft. In “Civil Disobedience” it is stated that the people have the need to follow their conscience not the edicts of an unjust government.” As in the Government should be forced to adhere to our wishes and not the other way around. If they over step their bounds I think someone should blow the whistle on them and we should be pissed about it. I want the freedom to live as I choose as long as I am doing it legally without relying on a government that can’t even keep its doors open. I love this country, I support the military, I obviously want terrorists terminated with extreme prejudiced but our Government is a bunch of morons that continually drop the ball and they constantly try to manipulate the constitution to allow them to take away our civil rights and they should be called on it. These are the same things the Chinese government does to its own citizens and people are disgusted by it. And the fact that the NSA blatantly lied to congress, the officials that we elect to represent us in government when it comes to drafting laws, is inexcusable and I think if anyone should be on trial for treason it is the people that are responsible for those lies and they should be put in front of a firing squad. All of that aside, I think if he laid his cards out like he did and with the possibly of him ending up in a Russian ditch somewhere he should man up and back it up by coming home and let the pieces fall where they may. I think the public has enough interest in this matter to keep a close eye on it to see exactly how the government handles it and he was obviously willing to risk becoming a martyr for it.

I had a similar weekend. I was camping in Solon Springs just outside of Superior. Boy did it get cold over night! Buried all the way down to the bottom of my sleeping bag pretty much. The fish were pretty lip locked on the lake over there too!

With the rain today and 80 on Tuesday should be able to pick a grip by this weekend!!!

Morel nube question to follow… what’s a “grip?”

I don’t think it has anything to do with mushrooms specifically.

    From Urban Dictionary:

“A Grip” – A large amount of a particular item (ex; time or money). Originated with hustlers counting their cash with how much would fit between your thumb & index finger (grip). Then it evolved into describing any item of large value/quantity.

    1. That BMW must have cost a grip!

    2. It’s been a grip since I last did…..

Stop in to Chalstroms bait. They have a good finger on the pulse in the area (they do the Duluth area report in outdoor news) and are super cool. Right on your way out there too.

So since the bank was clearly negligent in this particular case they are fully reimbursing you for you losses right?
