There aren’t very many advantages to having a $6k boat over a $60k boat, but IMO this is one of ’em.

The most reliable way to get things done right is to know how to do them and do them yourself. Waiting weeks to months in line for shoddy work is not high on my list of priorities.

Boat rigging is a simple job that can be done poorly or well and not be immediately apparent to most people – so unless you go somewhere with a strong reputation where their business is rigging to customers with high standards you’re just gonna end up dissatisfied.

Thanks guys- I’ll check out those sites and options. I’m hoping I can buy once cry once, so I’m planning on spending the money to get good gear (plus, I don’t really want to get cheap with the gear that is holding me 20 feet off the ground).

Buy once/cry once is sometimes difficult to do with saddle stuff, depending on your personal outlook. If you’re cool with sticks it’s easy enough, but if you go down the rabbit hole of some of the more compact climbing methods you end up with a lot of choices that are different more in personal taste than in quality. Saddlehunter.com forums are great for buying/trying/reselling for around the cost of shipping, though.

I can’t imagine trying to find the right trees to make a climber work.

What is your definition of big water?? I’ll be the odd guy out here and say if you’re pretty much only trolling, why don’t you look at a legitimate big water boat. Something like a Grady White or similar?? For the price of one of those Warriors you’re not too far off from getting into a Grady I’d imagine.

I guess the question is what is he doing his other 25% of the time he’s fishing, and how well does that line up with Grady White’s lineup. Could definitely be a great option or a terrible one.

Cockpit gets bigger by shrinking the front deck, shrinking the splashwell/rear deck/jumpseats, or making the boat bigger. Shrinking the decks is going to affect things like storage configuration so probably want to double-check those as well, and I wonder how much of a practical difference in cockpit room there between boats in this class.

The twin motor setup allows you to have joystick controls, which, once you try it, especially with a large boat or pontoon that can be difficult to control in windy or tight conditions, you will never want to maneuver a boat without it. I can’t explain to you how convenient and accurate it is. Amazing. You pull up to a dock on the downwind side with a 20 mph wind, and a 28 foot long pontoon full of people will essentially push itself perfectly sideways into the wind and draw up tight to the dock just by pushing a joystick.

Whatever happened to seamanship and piloting skills?

To me – that feels like a great fit for a bigger fishable boat with a lot of rod and tackle storage. It doesn’t seem like a lot of limitations would be hit in either use, and the trip home wouldn’t really be needed. But if you have the space and desire a fleet can be nice too.

I figure if you have e.g. enclosed/closable rod lockers that can help a lot.

How much would you anticipate combo-days with fishing and family fun mixed, vs 100% either? And what all is involved in “family fun” (and for that matter what sort of fishing) for you?

Is it so wrong to be preventative in a situation like this? Sure Martial Law May be overkill but they won’t be the last. Italy essentially enacted Martial Law when they quarantined entire cities where no one in and no one out. With as tragically under prepared we were for this. Is it any surprise that things like this are happening. Trump himself has given Pence emergency powers to waive laws and regulations to combat the spread. It’s not only Democrats.

al-w You must remember this is a blue state were a governor said I’m going to raise your property tax, trailer lic, vehicle lic and democrats in this state voted him in. It all trinkle down from the top. I’m sure something stupid will come from it.

Only red states are allowed to be proactive in dealing with pandemics?

But posts like Matt’s although I’m sure he firmly believes what he posted that once it’s posted it needs to be corrected.

Fair enough. Reviewing the CDC budgets, it’s pretty clear that the line item for GHS was increased. It’s worth noting that that budget is dwarfed by the overall (and separate) budget for public health preparedness and response. A big chubk of that (600M+ for the strategic national stockpile – basicly managing our stocks of emergency medical supplies.) was moved away from CDC to the HHS ASPR in 2018 (maybe why the positions were eliminated). And overall funding for emergency health responses (between CDC and ASPR), while probably still insufficient, has been flat to rising the last few years.

The President’s 2020 budget request represented a 1.2+ billion decrease from 2019 (including a cut to GHS spending), while the 2020 operating plan has the increase mentioned above.

I do stand by my strong disagreement with the president’s handling of the situation. Starting with his ridiculous statement that “We have it totally under control”, and continuing with his ridiculous and dangerous continued downselling of the hazards involved. sSince we’re posting factcheck links

The distribution curve on new cases went vertical when most people weren’t paying attention. The CDC’s bureaucratic incompetence made sure we were kept in the dark. Those of us that were paying attention know where this thing leads.

You mean the CDC that had its funding slashed and eliminated it’s people and infrastructure dedicated to dealing with epidemics and global health crisis?

Trump Has Sabotaged America’s Coronavirus Response

The incompetence is at the top.

7% of people im a small test, suggests “healing” is quite unlikely. Surgery or not depends on how you see both options limiting you. If you have no pain, “99% motion”…you’re in pretty good position.

What happens (either option) in the next say 10-20+years either way? Arthritis from surgery scars, pain and reduced ROM from weakening of whatever has picked up the slack for now, etc. And what does a best-case surgery gain you over pain-free 99% motion?

C .04*.04*.04*.04 = no chance (1 in like half a million) (assuming that the winning entry can redraw on subsequent draws)
    1-(.96^4)=15% chance you win something.

.92*.96*.85=75% chance you lost 60 bucks.

Sometimes AAA rates are closer to nonrefundable. You can buy blanket trip insurance on an annual basis, if you feel like you need to.

Or pay the extra for refundable. Or just self-insure. A lot of the time properties will make small exceptions/changes outside of what is required, if you face a true emergency. Some high-demand resorts in peak times won’t.

Hotels and resorts likely have more leeway and flexibility when you book with them directly rather than through a third party.

Are you concerned about cancelling a trip in advance for some reason? Or problems during the trip? CC insurance will often cover some costs from delays etc. Any insurance for advance cancellations will be for specific documented causes (like illness and inability to travel)

For the spreadsheet folks, this could be handy for weather import. Add weather data (including historic) automatically. Could sync it up with e.g. fish waypoint exports and really get a ton of data.

I will commonly log something although I don’t always enter every outing.

I use an iPhone app called Day One. I never liked the fishing specific apps because I never found them to be general enough. With Day One I will log both hunting and fishing in addition to other outdoor stuff. It’s really a journaling app so it doesn’t automatically import weather data. It does have a calendar and you can attach photos. The single biggest thing I like about it is you can tag any entry with whatever you want and with multiple tags. You can then do a search for that tag. This allows you to look up all your past bass fishing entries, Lake X entries, pheasant hunting entries, food plot entries, etc.

    Interesting

Wonder if there’s an app that pulls in more detailed weather info? Like a weather logging one, or an automated excel sheet or something.

I played with that for a while, my boat gets 2mpg from 25 to 40mph. No real change which is kinda nice. The distance to empty ring is a nice feature.

similar here. I was hoping to be able to dial in a more efficient cruise…but mostly i get what i get.

It seems like you were clearly fine with buying a cheaper foreign-made knockoff cooler, and aren’t willing to pay the price for any of the quality coolers made in the US, but are in a snit over RTIC passing tariff costs on to you?

Or you just want to buy the cheapest and pretend that it’s manufactured domestically?

Just another one of those feel good ideas that are entirely impractical

What is impractical about putting less plastic into our environment?

My kids bring metal straws with em most places they go.

I think what is impractical is that your kids reduce the plastic toll of 2 straws while China dumps 2 tons of straws per day. Not arguing with you because my kid does it too but it’s our needle and their haystack. If we want clean oceans than these garbage dumping nations should be cleaning our beaches.

You do realize that a lot of the trash that gets dumped in SE Asia, comes from the US, right? And once it’s shipped out it’s “officially” “recycled” as far as the US is concerned. And now that they’re no longer taking our trash lots of cities are ending, scaling back, or needing to pay a lot more to continue their recycling programs, and landfilling more and more plastic.

    https://www.theguardian.com/global-development/2018/oct/05/huge-rise-us-plastic-waste-shipments-to-poor-countries-china-ban-thailand-malaysia-vietnam

Plastic recycling is a giant fraud, and that poop lasts forever.

Lots of manufacturers have a accidental breakage cover. And they give you a new rod for half off or what ever there deal is. I’ve used that before. It was written in the warranty that way

yup – basically insurance described as a “warranty”. If it’s clearly marketed as such then it should be used and honored. If it was unofficially honored as such but marketed as a basic lifetime warranty, then I personally wouldn’t take in something I broke through my own fault.

It’s cool, but certainly would be limited by the percentage of craft using the system on any given body of water. Probably more of a distraction or possible false sense of safety until something like this is mandated or common.

AIS is mandated for big commercial boats. And (class a/b) way too expensive to expect small craft to carry.

But it can help you orient some nav stuff and position where the big stuff is. I don’t think a false sense of safety is likely.

I figure if it worked 5,10,20,30,40 years ago, it’s still ok. If you wanna play with new stuff, do it on your terms.

Yup. Obey the slot, and when on the water leave your fish in a state that your adherence to the slot can be confirmed.

I was interested in this as I didnt know a whistle was a requirement so I looked it up. Top of the picture reads a whistle or a horn. Someone correct me if I’m wrong but to me it reads one or the other not both.

I’m assuming this has something to do with his horn being broken.

Was trying to think outside of the box. Yes for years people have been wiring batters in series 24; 36 etc. With today’s technology was thinking there must be an easier and better way to do it.

Basically if you are perfectly efficient, 42 amps (from minnkota) at 24v could be converted from 84 amps. Power needs to stay the same (current * voltage). In reality there are some losses in conversion, plus batteries often perform worse and last less at higher current. And the losses from wire resistance are worse – so more current requires bigger wires.

Basically the higher voltage motors are designed specifically to give you more power with an acceptable amount of current that won’t kill batteries or require huge wires.

The better way would be a 24v or 36v battery. And if you want to use it for 12v as well, then use a voltage converter to drop that down to 12v where needed.

Basically something like this plus a converter to 12v if you want to run everything from one battery:

    M3140-36 36V 40Ah Trolling Battery

i wouldn’t blame the product at all. Seems pretty obvious what it’s supposed to be for. I think a better statement would be to read labels on application method.

Personally I would blame the product 100%! Who sells a boat cleaner that can’t touch plastic? Heck, it’s in a spray bottle and spray bottles do just that… they spray. Put the product in a container and recommend it’s applied via a rag.

it’s a hull/bottom cleaner, with directions to dilute it 15x for normal use and only use full strength for heavy buildup. I figure anything suitable to take on heavy duty scum, algae, oxidization, etc. Is not something I’d expose to plastic at full strength – but if my boat bottom is dirty I want effective, not necessarily “plastic safe”. My boat doesn’t have a ton of plastic near and below the waterline.
