Spoke to a local trapper. We will be lucky to have shiners for the opener up north. I guess the water is still too cold on the bigger trapping lakes.

Yup, won’t be long now. Ice is off at my parents lake in Nevis.
1 day after the ice was out the access dock was in!
May 3, 2023 at 8:00 pm #2200729Had a haircut this morning at the barber. Walker Bay is still pretty solid.

April 24, 2023 at 2:57 pm #2198521We should be good to go. The last round of warm temps helped greatly. Any lake smaller area lake with a current will open up soon. I’m just off the 6th Crow and is opening more by the day.
August 24, 2022 at 5:51 am #21430944. Use a Jaccard
This should be #1. Hands down the best way to turn tough cuts tender!
I worked at Von Hansons for a number of years and every cut (with exception of tenderloin) is Jaccarded. Costco also does this.
Another tip, sous vide…best cooking method for evenly cooked and tender steaks, chicken, pork, you name it. I don’t remember the last time we tossed a steak on the grill.
August 1, 2022 at 7:39 am #2138655What bothers me about the whole story is how the person who posted this did not mention anything about going through a no wake at above no wake speeds and damn near side swiped the boat that filmed the video without “asking nicely” or prior warning and it was the first boat they encountered. From there things went South quickly. In no way was the pleasure cruiser completely innocent here though as the story suggested and the video was an unbiased witness which showed that.
However, if you are going to fish in a Navigation channel then this is the experience you need to expect.
On a side note, the pleasure cruiser was stating that the boat was going the slowest speed possible? Do these large boats really go 5-7mph just with gear engaged? How do you dock a boat going 5-7mph?
It’s not uncommon for a larger vessel to have a 5 mph speed with both engines engaged. I know for a fact that on 53′ Carver the idle speed with one motor engaged is over 3mph.
July 26, 2022 at 8:19 am #2137586Michelin Defender LTX.
Friend got Falken Wild Peak at3 for his F-150
I had Michelin Defender LTX’s on my last 3 pickups and they were AWESOME!
My 1/2 ton now has the Falken Wild Peak AT3 and they are great too. They are slightly noisier (barely noticable) but the fuel mileage is a bit better. 22 – 24.5 in my 6.2l. Traction seems slightly better than the LTX but not by much.
I had the Good Year Duratracs on my 2017 Silverado 6.2L and it knocked the mileage down by 4 mpg versus the Defenders. Immediately swapped them out.
July 20, 2022 at 3:23 pm #2136655The lotto thread got me thinking what kind of boats (plural, obviously ) I’d get if I won the lotto or had an unlimited budget. My first thought was Vexus or Skeeter 21+ footer, with all the electronics for my big fresh water boat, a Lund Pro Guide 1875 for smaller water, then a big 30ish foot Center Counsel for the Florida/Caribbean home, with some kayaks scattered about as well. How about you? Any specific electronics?
Ranger 620 FS for Big Water
G3 167T with 60hp Yamaha for smaller lakes. Gotta make sure the floor is vinyl and the outside is camouflaged
37′ Freeman Boatworks with BIG outboards for the Great Lakes and FL Keys

June 23, 2022 at 9:13 am #2131420I’ve owned 3 Towtectors on 3 different trucks over the last few years.
My recommendations – always get the aluminum version if possible! Buy the extended hitch from Towtector and the storage bracket. Keep a adjustable wrench in your truck in case the mounting bolts vibrate loose.
I would not recommend just the rubber flap as it’ll kick rocks into your bumper and tailgate. I liked the protection of the Tier 4 but the thing was heavy as heck and would act like a plow in deep snow pulling the fish house.
I am now onto a dual brush on my 1500 and we live on a gravel road. Fishing 4 days a week and no rock chips in the fiberglass.
May 30, 2022 at 9:26 am #2127293Any reports from this weekend? Both boating-wise with debris and fishing? We are still debating on cancelling our houseboat trip on Saturday
May 26, 2022 at 10:57 am #2126819Just talked to park ranger. Rainy is predicted to keep rising till mid june. The closures are going to be extended in the nxt couple days.
We have our trip starting June 4th. Are they considering shutting down the park completely?

May 26, 2022 at 9:15 am #2126774We leave for our RLHB trip on Saturday 4th. They are still planning on letting boats out and something about makeshift spots for the boats. It’ll be an interesting year no doubt. Hopefully, the fishing isn’t absolute garbage with the record water levels.
May 23, 2022 at 9:43 am #2126207I picked up a few eaters on Tuesday off breaklines with shiners. Fished early yesterday morning until about 11 am and didn’t catch a thing. Fished from Agency to north of Big Hardwood. Only saw 1 fish caught by Goose Island on bobbers.
Water temp in Walker Bay 47.5 and by Hardwoods 51.4
May 9, 2022 at 12:46 pm #2122972When we stayed near Longville, I discovered Full Stringer. I love their store for the freshest bait. The owner drives and picks it up directly from trappers in the area. We now live in Nevis so I’m sad it’s too far to just stop in a few times per week.
May 3, 2022 at 2:39 pm #2121411I really enjoy my Piscifun Carbon X. I was using all President Supreme XT’s but have slowly changed them out. They are an incredible value around $50 that would easily compare to some of the mid-high range reels on the market. Tom Boley generally has discount codes in his YouTube video descriptions.
March 30, 2022 at 4:12 pm #2112304I sold my ice castle late last year and completed the deal via bank wire. I work in finance and you must be careful who you are wiring money to. If the person checks out and has a legitimate bank account, I would have little concerns. Banks do have different clear times on wires but should be able to clear funds within 24 hours.
Committing theft by wire fraud is a serious federal crime and easily traceable if you are being careful. Safer than a check or cash in my opinion
Post edit recommendation: Do not use your everyday savings and checking account for sending or receiving wires. Your account information can be accessed by both parties. I always use a “dumby” account that only has funds in it when I am ready to send out a wire.
March 9, 2022 at 8:03 am #2106147I would guess water levels wont be back to normal level anytime soon marbleeyes? Maybe you guys have a lot more snow up N, but down here in N Central Iowa we’re sitting on about 6-7 inches total. Never really considered that when we were up there. Probably something to keep in mind for this coming fall though.
There is quite a bit of snow in the general area. Park Rapids to Longville area has insane amounts of snow. From what I heard (hearsay from DNR) is that even with a heavy snow pack, the area needs 7-10″ of additional rain to normalize the lake levels.

A buddy mentioned going Honda as they are non-belt driven. Could a guy get away with a 500cc Foreman or do you truly need the extra power for 95% of off-road use on the lakes?I just totaled my 21 Honda foreman 520. That machine had plenty of power to pull with and has the solid rear axle. It’s built for what you want to do.
Great advice and much easier on the wallet. My wife thanks you HA

January 27, 2022 at 11:47 am #2093959For the last 2 years, I’ve fished Leech religiously 5-6 days a week from September to almost freeze up. 2021 was different than 2020 in terms of fish were not on the normal spots and tended to be deeper. I will attribute this to the incredibly low water levels on the lake this year with extended weed flats/edges. The typical wind seams on the major points on a good day didn’t produce much. Tons of Walker/Longville area lake fall bites were just non-existent too.
Also, fishing never seems to pick up until it hits the high 50’s on the main lake which was early October in 2020 and late in the month in 2021.
January 17, 2022 at 1:14 pm #2090630Minnesota also allows you to report the titled property as sold online: https://onlineservices.dps.mn.gov/EServices/_/
I just went through selling my Ice Castle to a person in Iowa. They wired money to Spire CU with the loan and they deposited the remaining balance into my account. The bank gave me a notarized lien release within the same day versus having to wait for a check to clear. It was nice to know there isn’t anything that could happen with bounced or fake checks as when a wire hits/clears it’s there for good.
March 23, 2021 at 4:06 pm #2024233XtraTuf!! I wear them year round as my run around and boat boots. They work great in the fish house too!
March 12, 2021 at 1:22 pm #2021787Bill Shimota is the best! He is a NWT angler, Lowrance Pro, and the new owner of Stabil Mounts. Also an electrician by trade. He is down by North Field. I had my 620 rigged with electronics and the job he did was done right. Best part he was well below what a dealer would have charged. I’d recommend finding him on Instagram and sending him a DM
