Thats a good question on how the board slides some times when it is double wrapped. It just happens to me some times.

I’m using 10lb fire line, with church boards, and double wrap the line around the clip. I’ve been boarding eyes for a few years and seam to be doing everything as others suggest. My hooks are good and sharp, and just wondered if this is a common occurance of loosing fish trolling the basin. I didn’t know since the eyes are suspended and probably coming up under the bait when they hit, if this causes more lost fish. Usually when I troll eyes, I’m trolling near the bottom.

Onto my other question, do you guys see a lot of other boats trolling around you? I just wonder if I’m in the wrong places some times. Do you guys hang around the northern flats, or are you south of them in the middle of the lake around nothing except deep water?
Any extra info would be great, as I’m trying to pattern this technique. Where do you guys start to look when you go out?
(I read some of the reports about scouting before you get the lines wet, and cover ground and find a lot of active bait fish. I do this, but probabaly not as much as I should. I see a lot of bait fish pods, but not always eyes hanging around them, or at least not that I see on the depth finder.)

How’s the fishing been the last few days up by the Red Door? Are the eyes still around in the sand?

I’m assuming Red door has a ramp I can pay to use?
How far of a drive out is it by boat to get to some of the fishing area? I’m just trying to decide if I want to go or not. I don’t feel like banging my boat over 3 footers if I have to travel 2 miles on the water. Or are some of the fishing spots relitively close to shore (IE can stay out of the wind and only have 1-2 foot waves)
From those of you with expereience, what do you forecast the wave size to be in some of the general fishing areas around red door with that 25 mph wond?

I am trying Bio-Spot this year; it is about a 1/3rd of the price of frontline or K9-Advantix. So far I am very happy with the performance. I am keeping a close eye on my shorthair, and will switch back to one of the more expensive brands if it is not working. Is this year worst for everybody; this is the worst tick season my dogs have gone through.

This is a tough situation; thankfully the dog just snapped and didn’t bite. The first thing I would do is never let the dog be alone with your son. I would bring the two together slowly and watch for any sign of aggression. If there is another incident the dog has to go. i would look for a situation where it could be placed in a environment that would be safe for all. No kids! If the dog bit the child I would put the dog down immiediately. I know this is a tough call; I had an english setter that bit my dasughter; a small child has no way of defending itself. It is the job of the parent. Good luck, I hope this turns out positively for your family.

When I bought mine 5 years ago it was $500.00. The stud fee for Gus was $600.00 dollars. This is an assumption; the price for a pup is close to the stud fee.

When I got my dog from Bob I asked him for 2 things. I wanted a dog that would love to hunt, but more importantly would be a great part of the family. I let him pick the pup, and he delivered what I was looking for. When we bred Ruth this fall we did the same; we deferred to Bob on picking the Sire that Ruth would be bred with. The goal was to achieve the same traits that I wanted for my own personal hunting dog. I would like to thank Bob for all the help and advise that he has provided over the past 15 years. I especially want to thank Bob for taking my son around and explaining what he looked for in dogs, and then spending an hour with him and going over every dog in his kennel.

I would look into Bob Merkel @ Wrenegade Kennel in Jesup IA. He has a great line of hunting Shrthairs. I am including a picture of my Shorthair I got from Wrenegade Kennels, and a picture of a pup from my girl bred to Bob’s Wrenegade Full of Gusto.

This is my favorite hunting memory and it happened this November; my first pheasant hunt with my son Jacob. Our dog Ruth produced a point on the only pheasant of that day. I wish I could say that Jake shot the bird, but he got a little flustered and couldn’t get the safety off. Ruth had 2 puppies 3 weeks after this photo.

One of the hardest things to do when hunting, is to not hunt. A raw nose is quite different then lacerations of the eye. Unfortunatly sometimes we need to rest our dogs. I’m sure you will agree this doesn’t make you or the dog happy.

I have lived in SE MN for the last 18 years; the pheasant population seems to be at a all time low for this time.

Would any one be willing to give some tips on where to start? There sure is a lot of water out there, and a lot of rock piles
I’m usually not one to ask for peoples spots, but since I’ve never been in this area. It’s hard to know where to even start. Not looking for the GPS spot, but maybe try around this point or that rock pile…Any direction would be great.
    Thanks guys for the help.

Sounds like fun then..I love playing bumper boat out on the water. Looks like I’ll be going after perch this weekend with my Dad. With all this talk about low water, I’m a little nerveous putting my boat in on the South side. like I mentioned, I’ve never fished the south side of the lake. What’s the safest place to put in? Is Fisherman’s Wharf the best place, or what would others suggest. Any idea on the cost to launch the boat out of these places?
    Thanks
