Thats what I was wondering too Louis. Both scenarios are possible but unlikely right? That would be one helluva male… but not impossible. Seems too soon for them to be dropping but not unheard of.

I’ll throw the potential for a third possibility out there. I caught a couple of eyes during late ice a couple years ago. They were upper-teen fish and didn’t have much for bellies so I kept them to eat. Upon cleaning them, I found that they didn’t have milt sacs but they did have what appeared to be egg sacs that never developed. They were just long orange-ish sacs. The fish looked healthy enough other than that. Don’t have an explanation… just an observation. Sorry don’t mean to hijack your thread.

No highjack..lol. useful info!! Thanks for sharing

Awesome fish! I lost two big ones on Friday/ Saturday. Those hooks on the blade baits sure suck. cry

A file in the ole arsenal to sharpen hooks is priceless ..especially when snagging rocks..

The fish on the right sure doesn’t have much of a gut for a prespawn female but it sure has good shoulders. Both beautiful healthy looking fish. waytogo

Yea the question was tossed around with it being a male or she already dropped eggs…??

Strange is a understatement …I would call that day bazzare…
Mike G and myself got on the water around 9 bells..it started with a quick flury. First three or four drops produced keepers..then strange things started happening ..lol (bananas)..the fish were pinning the bait on the bottom which resulted in snagged fish in the belly..(bananas)..we picked up a fish or two every hour..well mike did..(bananas) overall still beat sitting on the couch eating (bananas)
Oh yeai would like to send a special thanks to my good friend Doug Robinson for the (bananas)…leave them home next time lol…

I’ve had good look on firetiger during muddled water situations. Pike are sight orientated. BTW I’m surprised you got that pike in so shallow during July, in NY the waters at 74.5 and you won’t get a toothy critter longer than 24″ any shallower than 12 to 18 feet, or deeper.

Thats what I love about the mighty ms … conditions change almost daily …we have had some serious high dirty for most of June and July…which means fish are … were tucked in…shallow and out of current…best pike day was last Sunday..lots of bait fish..cleaner water less than 5feet…half dozen…biggest going 32….
