Another was checking to make sure people were changing out water on their bait. This became an issue when people switched over to leeches. Most people would have containers they bought that day and throw in their cooler and never once changed the water on them. Once they got back in by protocol it was considered contaminated water and needed be changed out. However with the common sense that I have I could clearly see that the leeches were still in the same water from the baitshop. I would tell people to next time bring a spare bottle of water to change the water on them or if they were to go to another body of water or deal with another inspector.
Mike, yes mainly looking for weeds and sticks, anything that an invasive could attach to, asked if they used an anchor and if so we asked to see that. You would be surprised at how many people do not clean off their anchors worth thr darn.. What I ment by the whole decon thing pertained mainly to the river. The river already has milfoil, and zeebs in it as you already knew. I would say 85-90% of the boats we ran into mainly fished the river or Mille lacs. We would also have them lower their motors as far down as they could to drain as much water out as possible. Boat plugs was another big one, educating people on waiting until they get to the landing before putting it in.
They can prevent you, if you launch they probably will probably call a warden and if they are not busy will come an pay you a visit. I was one of these law compliance officers the first year of it and by the end of the season we had a total of 8 hrs on our decon unit. We were at colville, baypoint and hok si la. Mainly had boats show up with plugs in. My intent was to take the job to hopefully get a better position in the department but have since abandoned that and now working on becoming an journeyman electrician. I never understood the whole decon before going into a body of water that is already infested.
There is an americinn next to the sawmill restaurant and bar. Right on 53 one exit away from 169 to head to hibbing. The super 8 referenced is actually in eveleth.
Did you notice a difference in getting bit going upstream versus downstream?
Thanks for update. Heading there Sunday were you longlining or pulling lead?
Verizon is best bet. I lived in Ely and had reception just about everywhere I went, a few spots on vermilion with no reception, but I fished some tournaments around GR and duluth and still had good service. Buddy that I fished with had t mobile and it plan stunk for getting reception
Little meat market just across the border in st. Albans iowa. Over in the hokah area.
Ballistic products is another one if you are looking for shotshell products. They are based in corcoran.
Wouldn’t be the first time a manual was wrong. Same thing on my dads optimax, book said one kind of plug and should be another one. Service tech figured it out from la Cannes in faribault
I recommend trying little long at night. Trolling the shorelines always produces, a lot of nice fish in little long. Burnside can be good on the shallow rock reefs mid day with a high sun even, cast some cranks over top and should catch them, along with some bonus smallies to boot.
This happens in the same hole. 6ft of water. I won’t touch the thing at the depth jumps. At 6ft I have a 2FT cone. The lake only goes to 7ft max depth
hopefully this clears up the digital read out jumping around while sitting in the same hole. Was fishing saturday night in 6ft of water and the read out would jump to 11ft, 6ft, 6.2, 6.3. This was in manual set at 10ft. I switched over to dynamic and then the whole screen would start jumping around. hopefully this clears up them issues. I still will not go back to a mechanical. had my dad and his vexilar in the house with me, Holy snikees are they loud!!
Goldfish are common over there. I see one every time I fish that area
Redrock store up in Ely,Mn sharpens blades. good service and fast turn around. stand up guy aswell. Did all my shopping at redrock when I lived in Ely.
Rattle reels during the middle of the night, cards or poker set, air freshner for reasons needing the tp. tip ups maybe, battery radio, extra battery for the flasher
Another option for you is to contact your local dnr forestry office to see if they are needing any for planting. They are usually short on some kind each fall. Not sure what they pay per bushel, but its better than just throwing away.
Oh and heres another one for you, from the time we got the unit in April till we turned it in oct 30th it had 8hrs of use on it, and I believe 2hrs were from the training. Granted towards septemeber they changed the protocol on when to wash a boat down, so that increased the number of washings but still definately not a good use of tax money. We had our unit out 4-6 days a week 10hrs a day.
I believe Zumbro is infested with zebra mussels, the main thing that they preach is to keep it from leaving there. Yes it is a very boring job. The guy could have went to another one of his landings on his list, that is what I would do last year when I did the job, We had 3 landings we rotated through. Go to the one on the schedule, stay a few hours to see if a boat would show up otherwise we would head to one of the other landings to increase our odds of actually talking to an angler or hunter. Never doing that job again, am an electrician now..
If your up for a little road trip head south to Hayward and drop it off at Nicks. I took my goose breasts there last year and got them smoked and boy was it tastey. Tasted great by itself or slice it and put it on a sandwich. I think it was $1.99 lb to have it done, took about 2 weeks to get it back.
Will, we have a place at agate bay. Family been going there 30+ years.
