Hey John, the DNR should force everyone to hone their downriver fishing skills a month longer and keep the dam closed until April 15th better yet May 1st to protect the egg laying females from the meat hunters. The law is working to a tee right now with the weather we are having. Sorry meat Hawgs….. Your the reason for the closed season…………….

GASS11, just head up right to the pockets by the dam with the meat hunters they are in full swing with their fishing out of a barrell concept playing bumper boats. Loading up on foul hooked 12″-13″ saugers with their blade baits. I’m not talking about the usual wall tie uppers, but the lets get as many as we can crowd in the iowa pocket and on the restricted area on the IL side, and they all wonder why it will be closed off Dec 1. Look in the mirror!! Might want to tip off your local game warden to hang around the boat ramps on Wednesday Nov 30, I assure you their will be some over limits coming in being the last day of barrell fishing by the dam. I saw it first hand last year and should have turned them all in.

Snagged, good try, we will all be dead by the time they figure it out. The dam Dam area needs to be closed until May 1st. Giving the females and males ample time to get it on and get it done. There is plenty of fish for the meat hunters downstream but that’s to much work. I know a few meat hunters who think nothing of chopping heads off 4-5 lbs fish throwing the eggs in the trash and bragging to anybody that will listen. Don’t forget to urine on that tree……….

John, interesting that some have been ticketed for going to far north at L&D 13. Sounds like DNR or somebody is doing their job. They need to take it a step further after March 15 and keep the boats away from going up the lock wall to the very near corner on the IL side. The reason being it is illegal, there is a sign on the wall that says not to go BEYOND THIS POINT. But there is a group of meat hunters every year that go past this point and slaughter the big females full of eggs. They don’t anchor but damm near do hovering with their trolling motors. Whoever is responsible for enforcing boats not to go past this point on the wall needs to. It’s not so much about handing out tickets but about giving more of the big walleye and sauger females a chance to lay their eggs before the meat hunters attack. Theirs no sport in fishing in that corner it’s like fishing out of a barrel. What do you think and who is doing the ticketing???

John, what do you think of the idea of closing the Dam area from Dec 1 thru April 31 to give the walleyes and saugers plenty of time to complete the spawn. Alot of meat hunters each year slaughter females full of eggs. Curious of the area on #14 where their is a clear sign telling boaters to not go “beyond this point” or something to that effect. A lot of fisherman venture past that and seem to do quite well. That is where your meat hunters go and fill up. Close it all off until May 1 and you eliminate that problem and preseve some spawning walleyes for the future. The closing from Dec 1 thru March 15 is great for deep sauger but how about the under 20″ inch walleye full of eggs that is caught on March 16 in the “keep out area” by the meathunters. Just wondering what you thought??
