Fished Blue Lake on the way to La Crescent. Couple of hits on slime frogs, but pretty slow overall. Gotta love the fishing lunch break…

Fishing sucked. Finally got into some fish yesterday on Kentuck – LM and SM bass off the rocky point with the occasional walleye. Too bad you can only keep one walleye over 28″. Not that I’d want to keep one that big…

Tried the ER chain lakes as well as Lac Vieux Desert. That’s French for “Lake Devoid of Fish”. Caught a couple of small northerns – nothing else was biting.

If you run them in series, you’ll be trying to charge 24 volts of battery with 12 volts of charger.

Run them in parallel and you’ll be charging 12 volts across both – technically taking twice as long or so. Probably more wear/work for the charger.

I’d do them separately until you can swing a multi-bank charger.

One thing I’ve noticed is the lighter construction. Open the lid to the bait well and notice how absent the lid is of torsional stiffness. Step on that sucker and it’s not going to hold too much weight. Just noticed that at a boat show on one of their models.

Also note the guage of the aluminum used in hull construction. Some boats like Tracker will go .090 5052 whereas Lund may use a .120 – heavier, perhaps more durable.

    Cheaper the better.

The Yamamoto originals fall apart in water – they’re only good for one fish… The BPS and off-brand ones last about 10x as long – Gary and Roland aren’t getting my money.

As far as presentation – it varies based upon the environment & conditions. I’ve had great luck pitching them in stumps/trees as well as working them like a regular worm – preference on carolina rig.

Definitely NOT a google-eye or warmouth. We catch those down in the basin (Atchafalaya) in Louisiana. Color and markings are different. They’ll hit any bass lure you throw at ’em – especially worms and other soft plastics.

Other fish we catch down there: Choupique (bowfin), Gaspergou (drum), sac-a-lait (crappie), alligator gar.

If there’s any way you could find one with the Cummins that’d be the way to go. Those engines last forever. I pull with a new 2500 and it’s like there’s no boat back there. I get 21+mpg on the highway without the boat or horseys out back.

The transmissions they’ve used over the years have been pretty standard fare.

The rough ride in a 4×4 is usually due to the solid front axle. Live axles ride rough but are arguably more serviceable (and infinitely more desirable for offroad, but that’s not important here).

I got hooked on Dodge trucks running them on the fire department and mainly like them for the Cummins.

You’ll be more than fine pulling it with a 318. There’s a reason why that’s been a great engine for a lot of applications (jeep grands, others).

New to the area, have hit Dresbach and the Black River thus far. I’m zipping around in a white Kenner bay boat.

Always looking for hot spots, big fish and somebody to hold my beer while I do something stupid (or land a big fish).
