Here is the best solution for the problem. Carry a poncho in the boat for the gals. They put the poncho on and have complete privacy with both hands free. This allows them to drop their britches and take care of business without anyone being any the wiser. This works great even in crowded conditions.
I always carry a trash pail or bucket that serves double duty.
OUPV stands for “Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessels” This is typically issued for 6 passengers maximun and hence the nickname “6 pack”.
This can be issued for a certain geographical area such as pool 4 and would be called a limited license. There are also Great Lakes ratings as well as Western Rivers which the Miss falls into, and Remote rivers. Depending on your experience the OUPV can be issued to allow operation on all US waters up to 200 miles offshore.
For those of you who are contemplating getting your license you should look at getting a full rather than a limited license if possible.
Whether you like it or not touraments and a lot tournament fisherman monetize the resource and to various extents stand to receive monetary gain from it.
This reason alone sets the tournament angler apart from the recreational user and will and should bring with it additional regulation.
Fishing guides require additional licensing, commercial insurance, and even carry a different type of PFD on board due to the monetary consideration.
Tournament organizers for the most part are running them as a business venture with the hope of a monetary gain. And many tournament anglers are also fishing for monetary gain or recognition to enhance thier ability to receive monetary gain.
Although I am sure that many tournament organizers have the best interests of the resource at heart. I am also sure that many tournament organizers also have their own financial interests as their foremost concern. I personally have had a pro tell me that they put a 27″ walleye in the livewell on Mille lacs so they could go in and put a sponsors shirt on to get a picture before the release. That is a prime example of the monetary reward taking precedence over the best thing for the resource.
With increased pressure and commercialization will most likely come the inevitable increase in regulation and fees. There are few sporting events that utilize public resources to the extent that fishing tournaments do.
Take a look at the Petzl MYO’s. They have both the LED’s and a Xenon spot that will shine out about 100 yds. They are fairly spendy but they are also just about bulletproof as well.
You can document your hours through the use of a logbook if you can prove ownership (registration, title, sales receipt etc.) of a vessel during the time in question.
If you did not own a vessel during the timeframe in question you have to produce a notarized statment from a vessel owner verifying your days of service.
I would avoid going for the limited OUPV and go for the whole enchilada the only difference is the 360 days of service vs. 90 days.
I have seen to many low time Cabelas reels that are junk to ever consider buying one myself. It is truly amazing how fast they turn into junk sometimes.
Stick with Abu, Shimano, Pflueger, etc.
There are alot of things to do in San Diego. For fishing you can go out on the party boats from Mission Bay. Should be pretty cheap $20 or $30 bucks I would guess. Seabass, Tuna, Bonito, Halibut, and the like.
You can also find out what days of the week some of the local lakes are open for fishing and can usually rent a small boat. Lake Moreno is about an hour east of SD on I-8 and used to kick out alot of 1 to 2+ lb bluegills from shore when I lived there.
There is also Seaworld, Balboa Park, San Diego Zoo (one of the worlds best), La Jolla Cove (snorkeling), Blacks Beach (nude), boardwalk from Ocean Beach to Pacific Beach (rent bikes or skates and cruise for great people watching), Killer Mexican food and not that Tex/Mex or MN bean filled cr*p, Tijuana (walk across the border rather than drive), Old Town, Lion Country Safari, Mt. Laguna, Mt Palomar observatory, and oh so much more.
Have a great time.
The great thing about San Diego is that the weather will be perfect every day that you are there. No bugs and no humidity.
Dave,
I do not see the economy as being in the toilet, in fact I think that the economy is doing pretty darn good all things considered. The current price of oil has done little or nothing to slow consumption.
(Hot tip!)When I get done with the Silver trips I am going to have my better half meet me in Anchorage and we have an RV rented for a week at $524.00. That is a very affordable way to travel and fish South Central Alaska. This way we can go where we want, when we want, and stay as long as we want. If we save just $50 a day on food and drink by having our own along it will pay for about 1/2 the cost of the rental when you figure in the mileage and tax.
Mid September, no bugs, no tourists, hungry monster Trout on the flyrod, almost heaven!!!
I will be heading back up in a couple weeks for 4 weeks of Silver salmon and Trout fishing.
We had our usual phenomenal King fishing again this year. Even the fly fisherman were averaging over 15 Kings landed per fisherman per day.
We are out on the Alaska peninsula and have arguably the best King salmon fishing in the world.
For those of you who have not been to Alaska yet start making plans now. Alaska is simply the most incredible place on earth and you will be too soon dead. Once you experience this most magnificent of places your only regret will simply be that you did not visit sooner.
Alaska really is the last best place.

If you did not have a deposit on the car you have no one to be mad at. If you did have a deposit on it then the dealer should have offered a sincere apology and tried to work something out with you on another vehicle to make up for the inconvenience.
If you are shopping for something and find the perfect one you need to be ready to buy or put down a deposit or you run the risk of losing out.
If you have had good luck with Walmart oil more power to you. I feel that the motor manufacturers have the oil made to a very high standard whereas walmart has it made to a very low price.
I have to beleive that Merc has more interest in your engine being reliable than Walmart does.
I feel the extra $10.00 now is a better deal than $5000.00 on new powerhead later.
If you make it up to Lake George I hear that Shoreline Cruises has some killer charters.
A 1 lb package from Minnesota to Texas will cost $3.95 Parcel Post and $4.05 Priority Mail.
The same 1 lb. with the dimensions of 84″x 3″x 3″ will cost $19.04 Parcel Post and $20.80 Priority Mail.
The $6.00 does not seem so bad.
It all seems good until you realize that is smack dab in the midddle of South Texas. After spending a couple of years in the Corpus Christie area, one of my greatest hopes is that I will never have to visit South Texas again as long as I shall live.
The area is truly one of the biggest S*** holes in the US of A. I simply do not buy into the Texas BS anymore. I have lived in many places and South Texas is the most backwards place I have ever had the displeasure to visit.
You will be a lot happier catching 4 and 5 lbers here than you will be catching 10 lbers there.
A full 33% of all the new homes sold in the state of Texas have wheels on them .
Do yourself a favor and take a look at the Alumacraft 16′ Navigator tiller. I think you will be amazed at the amount of boat you will get for your dollar. They are slightly more than the other 2 mentioned but are twice the boat.
First off he needs to lose the mind set that he cannot compete with Wal-Mart. He needs to realize that he can offer things that Wal-Mart cannot and will not offer the fisherman.
He just needs to market that and to provide a level of friendly and knowledgable service that is not found at Big Box Mart and he will be able to thrive and prosper.
I have over the years come across many bait and tackle stores where I have found a less than friendly and welcoming attitude. If this is the case for a bait store owner they may as well shut the door and go apply for a job at Wal Mart as they will never be successful in business.
If he thinks that he cannot compete with Wal Mart then they have already won the battle and that is a terrible shame for all of us.
Try Lurecraft. They will make a mold for soft plastics for about $60.00
Also PM me with the item # and I can tell you with 90% accuracy whether you will be outbid or not.
I sell quite a bit on Ebay and have a 100% satisfaction gaurantee on all my items. In the case of someone making a bidding mistake or having the wife threaten murder for spending over $300 on used waders I am most always flexible and willing to work with my customers.
The best thing to do is be upfront and communicate with the seller. I personally would prefer to eat a few items and have happy customers than PO customers. Good sellers will do whatever they can to make it a win win situation for both parties. If you are treated fairly be sure to spread the word about that seller.
Many times I have items that I would be happy not to sell or would be ecstatic if every winning bidder backed out on me. This is the case with very popular items that are in limited supply. Some of these items will bring well over a 1000 people to view my items. So contact the seller and explain the situation and see what the options are.
That being said the seller incurs a fair amount of fees for the listing and the final value fees. If you win and do not pay the seller is still charged. The only way to recoup the fees is to file a non paying bidder against you. This is not a good mark to have if intend to do much on ebay and could result in negative feedback. Some sellers will block bidders with negative marks against them.
You also need to realize that the reason you do not want this now is because you found one cheaper. This is really not a good reason to cancel a bid as no matter what you buy or bid on you can always find it cheaper somewhere. The seller assumes certain obligations when they list an item for sale. The buyer also assumes certain obligations when they bid.
Remember most mistakes on Ebay are caused by not reading the listing thoroughly before bidding. Read and ask questions if neccesary.
Good luck and feel free to PM me if you need any help with this.
GERBER. I just had my gerber taken at the airport. I have 2 leatherman’s but I will do without until I can buy another Gerber.
In addition to the list of over 1400 items that I posted last week we received over 1200 fishing items this week from Pure Fishing alone. This was a palletized load of 900 lbs of rods, reels and tackle. Our goal is to have all of these items find a new home tomorrow.

The easiest and most accessable herd would probably be the Mulchatna herd out of Dillingham.
You might look at doing a float trip on the Mulchatna river. This would allow you to possibly stalk a caribou along the river rather than out on the open tundra.
You need to remember that you cannot hunt in Alaska on any day you have been in an airplane. This makes being dropped off for the day impossible. Since caribou roam over areas larger than most states aircraft are the preferred method of travel.
The last time I priced out a Beaver on floats it was about $800.00 an hr. and that was a number of years ago. When you figure that you are paying for airtime both ways on each trip it can get pretty expensive pretty fast.
A float will let you cover alot of ground, access Bear and Moose, enjoy some great fishing and allow you to have more gear.

Bringing this back up to the top as this event is coming up next weekend.
This event is going to be a once in a lifetime event for many of you. We are up to over 1400 outdoor items for the event for prizes and auction items.
I will try and post an updated list later today.
Some Patrick F McManus books, although he may laugh so hard that it will pull the stitches out.
