Might be old, but still saw you posted. I no longer really fish the Chippewa much anymore. It has gotten so shallow and I upgraded to a bigger boat for the family. You would be hard pressed to get your 16′ up and down the river. Plus south of Durand is very shallow. You almost have to have someone show you the river. Unless you are good following river channels, and reading submerged dead heads. Your small boat with a mud motor would work til you can navigate better. Also summer it gets pretty shallow. Just try not to wreck too much stuff. It is a great fishery! If you can get around.

Thanks for the info guys greatly appreciate it. We are staying with some friends who’s family has a small resort up on Moose Lake. I have to say I don’t even really know the name. They invited us to come up and relax. They said the bass fishing was awesome and that you can hook into some eyes in the early morning and evening. I was also pleased to hear about the crappies and gills too!!!
December 10, 2010 at 8:08 am #96630I have and use .300 WSM Winchester Model 70. This gun is fairly versitle. I use it from whitetails to elk. I use 150gr Winchester Surpreme XP rounds for deer and 180gr Winchester Supreme XP for elk. There isn’t a deer or an elk that has walked away or went very far. Like everyone has said personal preference and many factors to weigh.
December 9, 2010 at 8:46 pm #96549I would have to say Kirk Peterson as well. I’ve known him since a kid and it is his PASSION to to great work! I have had all 5 of my deer to him and he has done a great job. He is also a one of the best at antler repair. You won’t regret it!
December 3, 2010 at 7:57 pm #95583I saw it but didn’t see that it was found in my neck of the woods. If someone around here would have found that I think we woud have heard about it in the gossip loop…but who knows. The pic doesn’t give much evidence as to the location either.
November 29, 2010 at 7:53 pm #94849I also run Cuddieback cameras and have a couple of Reconx. As far as stands there are so many and I have to say it depends on whay you want. I hunt in climber stands when I hunt in northern Wisconsin. The trees are straight and have very few branches to deal with, plus if the spot doesn’t work out you can move very easily. I do have a couple of Big Dog tree stands that I had gotten from Menards that have done the trick, but I prefer River’s Edge hang on and ladder stands.
November 27, 2010 at 5:59 pm #94637There is a whole bunch of public land in Buffalo County where you could hunt. It is called the Tiffany Bottoms. If you have a boat, compass, and GPS you can get into a lot of areas that aren’t hunted very much at all and there are some huge deer in there. I’ve live in the Pepin/Buffalo County area for all my life and have hunted here and it is tough to find someone to let you hunt but they are out there. Good Luck!
July 30, 2008 at 1:47 pm #702330Nice post…I love that chain. I also noticed a couple of them spots.
May 31, 2007 at 3:46 pm #576655This is a bunch of POO….I do remember though last year up in the Cities someone went out to their deck to find a deer with an arrow in it(poor shot of course) lying in their yard suffering…cops chased it and DNR out into the streets then it was hit in traffic…. Not sure what town but maybe it was IGH????

This is one of the best pics I have ever seen taken right here.May 22, 2007 at 3:41 pm #573799I have two already….I want two for lead and two for long lining… I have the 47’s and just bought the 57’s…These things work great and take a lot of punishment.
I usually get a flier from them on sales and didn’t get one so I forgot about them until reading this…so thanks.
May 22, 2007 at 2:20 pm #573779Mark thanks for the link…I just bought two…I’ve been waiting for the sale.

I let the float slide down all the way to the hook on the basic Lindy rig.
So simple that even a child can catch fish.
So very right… Heck if I can do it anyone can.
May 22, 2007 at 2:16 pm #573774Ahhh if you could have made a cane pole work it is all good. Neat Pics too…you look a little ummmmm red
May 22, 2007 at 2:13 pm #573773All of my vehicles and boat are through Prgressive. 06 Dakota 4×4 QuadCab, 05 Caravan and 06 Lund Explorer, 06 F75 Yammy…$1115 every year for insurance…I didn’t think this was bad at all
May 22, 2007 at 12:41 pm #573729On my rigs here is how it looks…I’ll try to describe it. I have the hook, then there are two beads, then a float, then two more beads then the blade on a clevis, then one more bead. If I decide to run two floats: I have the last hook two beads, float, one bead, float, two beads, blade, bead…..If you don’t understand I can try and take a pic of them.
May 22, 2007 at 12:33 pm #573725I also have to go with I hate seeing pics where the fish is made to look like a monster… What I also hate is a straight face or no emotion face when someone is getting their picture taken. Fishing is fun…enjoy it.
May 21, 2007 at 5:54 pm #573362Like Ben said things get tight in the boat. I know in my smaller Explorer it does make it a challenge to get to the rods and keep them out of the way. In your case…not sure if you are gonna pull boards or not but you should be able to get them forward of the counsel and still be able to manage them quite well. I know in my boat it is decided right away who is to get what rods.
May 21, 2007 at 5:37 pm #573346Ok I don’t have a pic…but I can tell you what I have.
I run a 1600 Lund Explorer SS. I have an F75 on the back and two electric trolling motors, bow and transom. In the summer I can troll cranks with my main…so I don’t usually need anything else like a kicker…If i do my two trolling motors work just fine.
It depends on how many are in the boat, but usually I’ll have 4 rods out the boat when there are two of us. I’ll have them on rod holders two out the back and two about mid way up the boat. I’ll run either lead core or long line out the back…the others will have boards. I usally take one side of the boat and my wife the other.
Just remember to check your regulations on how many lines/hooks you can have out. I saw a guy trolling with 4 rods out the other day on a local WI lake…DNR payed him a little visit.
May 21, 2007 at 5:26 pm #573336Spiderman 3 I guess was a real long drawn out show. I talked with a lot of people that said it was extremely boring. Some of these shows…the more they make the worse they get…
May 21, 2007 at 4:16 pm #573298Most of mine are 4′-6’….I have made some 8′ like these guys said it depends on the conditions….I fish mainly stained water, Wissota, Chippewa River, ect.
I mainly use bronze or red hooks…the snells are made of 10# Trilene XT or Suffix Elite. I’ve been switching most of my stuff over to Suffix….
Just like the other guys said hook size is critical too. On my crawler harnesses I run a 3 hooks, if it is a minnow or leech harness only one hook and usually I try to get away with a smaller hook.
I also found it benificial to use the little Lindy floats on snagy bottoms. It seems to get around the snags a little better. I sometimes run one, but a lot of times I put on two.
May 17, 2007 at 9:43 pm #572367BIG ROUND, up by Amery would be a good place to go…a small jig and a leech under a bobber on the reeds on the west side should give you some action. Plus you get bonus largies….I know that is about an hour away for you…Also Horseshoe Lake just NW of Turtle Lake…again a leech, small jig and bobber….Plus you can get some really big largies by accident there too…I’ll think some more and help ya out.
May 16, 2007 at 6:22 pm #571843I also have never fished this lake early in the year. I have heard some good things though on early fish. I know Jason Halfen may have some info for ya. I think he fishes this one and Grindstone, but I could be mistaken.

My thoughts exactly…guess I won’t be able to go out for dinner with the wife for awhile.
