Thanks Josh. What resort are you from? Never fished there, thinking of trying a new lake away from the iron range and LOW area this weekend.

Yes thats a good idea as well. I have the same shelter 949i. It works great and good size for 1-2 and a dog. I’m on the iron range so my try a weekend up for lakers up by ely out there as well. A precut roll-up may would work nice as well. Would need to get some holes pre-cut however
January 6, 2017 at 2:27 pm #1663050Yes thats a great idea. We usually only spend maybe 2-4 weekends a year sleeping on the ice so in my mind not worth a ice castle. Plus its more fishing and camping. I am headed to lake of woods in like 10 days for a few days so I may try and get some of those and see how they work. Thank you!
January 6, 2017 at 1:51 pm #1663036Sorry to join the conversation a little late, I camp in my Eskimo 949i with the wife. We use no floor, two cots, sleeping bags and a heater with the vents open. It works good and the dog sleeps in the middle or on my lap. one cot on each side and one hole each. Its a little tight, most of extra stuff needs to go outside or in the truck, but its cheap and better than spending a few hundred on a sleeper somewhere. I have been thinking of getting a floor to retain heat better but it works for now. Anyone else have any good tips for hub camping? I was thinking of upgrading to a double hub like the Clam bigfoot or some other insulated HUB to have a sleeping room and fishing room.

March 2, 2016 at 8:44 am #1603637I was thinking of heading up there this weekend with my car. Hows the road? I have never gone through zippel bay usually by the river.
February 25, 2016 at 10:35 am #1602258Awesome! Thanks for the tips. I will try and call ahead to some of the resorts, I was just curious and yes I dont think it would be hard to get a tow if I did get stuck! Most fisherman are very curious and willing to help another out!
February 25, 2016 at 8:48 am #1602238I as well have been thinking about trying LOW for ice fishing. I know you can get a day pass and drive out. The thing is all I have is a car and wondering where I can go or park and setup. I have been to LOW before usually in sleepers, but I know they can be spendy. I guess my questions is if I get a day pass, drive on the road are there areas where I can turn off and park and setup without getting stuck?
March 3, 2015 at 1:43 pm #1519018Thanks for the tip. I will give that a try next time on one of the lines. Growing up around Ely, that’s what always seemed to work up there. LS is a very unique lake, very intimidating that’s for sure. No luck for me on Saturday, we marked a few on the marcum but no bites and the ice was moving a lot, we were setup close to the pressure ridge, my buddy freaked out and we left around 11am.
Anyhow, the ice looked good at Brighten beach, we drove by after on Saturday. I might give it a shot tomorrow Wednesday afternoon after work. I’d like to try a little deeper. I was thinking of trying Brighten beach. Anyone interested? I hate going alone, esp. this time of the year. Let me know. Any good report of whats working? Thanks! I may drive by tonight after work and give a ice report if I have time!
February 28, 2015 at 11:23 pm #1517804Thats good to hear. I took a quick drive by after work on Friday, being that I work downtown Duluth, but I commute from the range. If you guys ever need a report let me know! I am headed down there tomorrow to give it a try. Has anyone been having luck? Hopefully we can snag a keeper or two! What size ripping raps do you normally have good luck with? I am going with a sweedish pimple or 1 oz. bucktail tomorrow with cisco. Thanks for the tips!
February 25, 2015 at 9:23 am #1516075Thanks. Just would like a get out there and be safe. Ill check with marine general end of the week. Looks like it should warm up a little this weekend. What sort of lures and line do most of you use? 15-20 lb line?
February 24, 2015 at 3:59 pm #1515854Thanks for the info carter, I may give it a try. I haven’t been lake trout fishing since I was little. Usually go for crappies and walleyes pretty hard during the season. Just a little nervous and the ice and don’t want to have an accident, Ill check some reports on Friday, if I do go it will be Sat or Sun.
February 24, 2015 at 12:51 pm #1515773Hey I was thinking of trying out there this weekend if the weather hods out, never have before any suggestions? How deep are they at?
February 24, 2015 at 10:10 am #1515716Anyone ever try ice fishing out there for walleyes? I live on the east range and looking for a decent walleye lake other than vermilion. IS there an ice road off the landing at all? Thanks!
