I have noticed that Browning socks work phenomenally. They’re well-made and cost effective.

I would definitely just do what you said you would (email the DNR. Just to make sure.

I haven’t had any problems with hook-ups or them getting off. Just make sure you check the line and knot after every hook-up.

I have yet to use my Lowrance Elite 4, but I have heard great things about it. The one I got from Amazon was $220. It has sonar and Lakemaster compatibility. I’ll keep you updated as I use it soon.

I will go and take a picture right now. It will definitely fit in the back of your car still. You mount them exactly like the regular runners or hyfax kits just they’re wider, which gives you great floatation. It does not add any width to the sled, only a half inch of height. When you’re installing them, you’ll have to drill a hole in the sled and the plastic slightly smaller than the screw or bolt you will use. Then use a drill bit that will recess the bolt or screw so it’s not grinding off on the ground. Finally, screw in the bolts and put on some nuts. Lock nuts would probably work best so they don’t by any chance come off. The Plastic is the white stuff that is mounted under the 4 by six in the picture. Maybe you could even spray some silicone water-quart on the bottom of your sled. That’s what we put on the pads of our jet ski trailer so they slide on easier.

Last season, the owner of the bait shop I work at gave me some high density plastic. I guess he got it from a guy across the street who makes commercial kitchen ware or something along those lines. They’re scrap pieces (reminds me of the cutting boards at subway, but thicker) that were to small to use. We put it on the 4 inch side of our 4 by 6 skis of our ice shanty we’re building and it has great floatation so far from what we’ve seen. It’s really stiff, but if you use a heat gun, it makes for easy bending. I’m not sure where you could get some, but I’m sure if you did some asking around or searching on the Internet, you could probably find someone willing to give you some.

I usually don’t fish the weeds, but if it comes to it or if there’s a good bite, I,ll troll right over the edge of them. Troll deeper diving lures on the edge and shallow diving lures over the top of the weeds. Another tactic would be pitching jigs into some clearings or “holes” and tight up to the edge of the weeds. Throw on a curly tail soft plastic minnow or whatever you find works and you should do pretty good. Just experiment and ask others what they’ve been doing. Most of the time you’ll come across some great information!

Well.. It depends. I’m not sure how long you let it warm-up, but some machines just need a longer time to warm-up. Especially in those colder temperatures. Even after you’ve let them warm-up you might have to be easy on the throttle for a bit.

You could switch to 30 pound test fluorocarbon and see where that gets you. If you still have bite offs then just keep going higher. Line is so much thinner then it was just a couple years ago so you have the options of going bigger. Even a braid leader might work. I’ve tried that and it works great. I haven’t noticed any differences in the amount that hit my bait. Just keep on experimenting. Not just with this, but everything. Maybe you’ll find some methods that work and catch more fish.

A couple benefits to having a snowmobile are that you can take it on an ATV trail and you won’t get stuck if you’re going through deeper snow or slush. You can buy chains for the tires which helps a little bit. You cannot take an ATV on a snowmobile trail though. Some bad things about snowmobiles are that you won’t be able to use it during the Summer if you don’t have snow and if there is only ice, you will wear out your hyfax quicker. They will wear out quicker because there won’t be any snow to lubricate them. Also, if the weather is warm (40 degrees Fahrenheit), it will be hard on your machine. Reply to this if you have any other questions.

I personally use the snaps that come with the Slender Spoon. They sure are a pain in the rear end, but if you get two pairs of forceps or smaller pliers, you can get them to latch easier. Doing that has sure saved the tips of my fingers.

I usually just put treble hooks on my tip-ups. Some days I’ll put on a 1/8 ounce glow jig, but that’s only for the really low visibility days. VMC has treble hooks with a little bit of glow paint on them too. Give it a try though. I’ve caught a Bass while my spinnerbait was barely in the water and I was untangling some line. Who knows? Maybe it will work really good.

You could do some spearing shows. I’ve never been spearing, but I sure would love to start and I know you guys could gather a lot of information and inform the viewers. Absolutely great shows by the way. I’ve never seen fishing shows that actually try to inform people. All of the other shows are just bragging and telling you to use their sponsors products. They give me a head ache!
