Thats the same thing I thought, whats next. Gave the dealer some grief, he took it well. Ended up being the trim position sensor. My dad worked at merc for 38 yrs so I have some loyalty. My dad is picking up a lund, dealer said he would really sharpen his pencil on a pro kicker. So it may end up with another black motor after all.

Picked up my 1725 today and went out to break in the optimax today. All I can say is wow! What a differance from my 1650. Got the terrova in the water for a few min. This is going to be a fun season.

So because I caught a flathead in January in a warm water retention pond for a power plant while fishing for channel cats. I am no longer a catfisherman? I didn’t do any snaging caught it on a cut sucker, I was as suprised as the the next guy. My cat was cpred so what is the big deal?

So what you are saying is the water was above normal temperatures when flathead turn lethargic at below 50 degree water temps?? So the ice you are standing on isn’t ice? and the water underneath it is above 50 degrees?

Different poster. See the grass on mine? Yes the water was in the 70s. My point is don’t slam me because I caught a flathead in the winter.

BK, post some of your sleeping beauty videos???

I would clicker if I thought it would change the minds of winter flathead catchers.

Seven years ago a fella said “anyone that calls themselves a cat fisherman does not fish for flats in the winter time”.

Didn’t know that they made a twin 6hp, thanks for bringing to my attetion. Now for my next dumb question, why do most people go with a 8 or a 9.9 for a kicker? They weigh almost double and the only advantage I got when comparing a 4 hp and a 9.9 on my 1650 was the bigger motor made it eazier to control the boat. Speed was almost identical. Or am I missing something else? Thank you gentelmen for all your opinions.

The dealer dosen’t have an issue with putting the extra weight on the transom. It’s a hard call for me, I agree it’s alot of extra weight I may never need not to mention the three grand. Then theirs the one time you need it. Will be something to stew over for awhile. I wish someone made a 2 cylinder 4 stroke 6 hp. I think that would be about the perfect kicker size.

So everyone feels the electric is the way to go, just haven’t givin in to the comforting idea of a mannual start outboard in case of engine problems. Have had the main go once and went swimming to keep the boat from beaching on the rocks in 38 deg. water. It you guys trust your electrics for a back up in river or lake situations where it could be miles to a launch, I will put the idea of a gas motor to rest.

I wasn’t planning on it yet. Still have to decide if I want a Pro Kicker or if I’m going to go all electric.

I put money down today at wendts marine in central wi. I only have the funds for 1 trolling motor right now, do I pick the terrova or go to the back with a vantage?

Getting an Optimax. Dealer told me you can’t go below the idel preset just up from there. Don’t know if this is true or not.

After reading all your guys posts I decided to run out and buy a 1725. I am going to put an 80 terrova on the front. My question is what kind of time are you getting on the 80 vantage. 8 hrs? longer? Trying to decide if I want to keep my 9.9 or save the weight. Also dose it come completely out of the water? The side scan sensor gives of enough of a rooster tail. Thanks
