Fished primarily 30-34 fow, marked a ton of fish (specifically in one area) but could not get them to cooperate. Lots of bug hatch floating by and floating weeds constantly fouling the line. Great day on the water either way, better than a day at work!

The boat has been sitting still for almost a month! Planning on getting out on the water tomorrow to try my hand at dragging lead in the basin. Any tips or suggestions are welcomed. I am heading to the warrior rally next week and just want to make sure the boat is working well and all of my lead core gear is good to go for the trip up to LOTW. Not going to hit Mille Lacs too hard, more or less looking for a great day on the water!

I run ring free and the fuel stabilizer. Dealership recommended both, and it was a heck of an investment so I figure why not? Little bit of screwing around pouring the crap in every time I fill up but not a huge hassle. I run the 175 SHO. I think around a little less than 150 hours so far and no issues yet (knock on wood) Still just a baby, these things should run for a long time.

I know you mentioned Metro, but I drive up to Wadena to Dewey’s. He does awesome work and I am not sure, but guessing a couple bucks cheaper than the metro like most things. Like I said, I don’t know for sure, that just seems to be the way things work out for most things. He has a price sheet on his webpage to compare with what you find in the metro if you want.

Thanks everyone for the advice! I have a friend that is willing to let me use his equipment and show me the ropes. All I need to buy is the dies and cases, primers, powder and bullets. Now to find a good reloading book that has 460 S&W to know what to buy for the above items.

One time the weld on the cable itself failed and split in two. The other times it sprung a leak from both ends.

Not sure what you mean by this? Can you elaborate? What type of valve did you have on it before that failed? A gate valve or ball valve? Where did it fail? Did the valve fail or the connection of the pipe to the valve? https://www.homedepot.com/c/ab/ball-valves-vs-gate-valves/9ba683603be9fa5395fab901367d3983

Listed this for my mother in law. Apparently she has gotten more than 15 messages on marketplace for it, not sure when people are going to start coming over to take a look at it. If you are at all interested hit it while the iron is hot.

I wish they would just let us cross to the Angle. Why not have someone follow you to make sure you go straight there? They could make 100 bucks a trip, I am sure the fisherman would be happy to pay it, I would.

Does anyone have an opinion on the best mapping chip for this area? Are there any high caution areas that I should be concerned about with my less than perfect CMAP charts? As any new to me area I will not be flying around like a mad man, and will be making my own chart, but would be nice to know your opinions.

    Thanks!

For what it’s worth, I have no experience with this boat, you can never have too long of a shaft. It is a pain to go longer after you find out it is too short. My dealer was able to work with me on upgrading my Xi5 60 to 72 but they very well could have said no. I have a Warrior 2090 and even with the 72 there are days I pop out. I need to move to fish from the bow as well as my guests. Then we usually take a few over the bow.

I am not sure. I will say that I have a couple of 9 inch Ti2s and have one of them hooked up to a network for my point 1 antenna and my motorguide xi5. When I had the shop rig everything I also had them add the link to my Yamaha outboard. This works great to see everything from the engine, run time, temps, pressures, rpms, etc. I assume there is a cable link to Merc as well and if you planned on having a network for either the point 1 or trolling motor you could just add the additional cable to the motor.

The BT between the units works well but not sure if it would hook up to the Merc BT unit. Be cool if it did!

Thanks for all of the feedback!

The lake I am referring to it is really common for pontoons to have on the funny colored lights all around as well as cruising across the lake with the front headlights on, looks like a car coming across the lake miles away. Figured if they do it all the time, maybe there is an option for a boat to do the same and not hit the random guy just hanging out in the center of the lake with no lights on.

I like the set ups you guys are using. And appreciate the legal feedback.

I can’t bring myself to spend that much on sunglasses, I went out and ordered some shady rays and must admit they are pretty dang nice! They are always running sales to get them even cheaper and they have a really good warranty, basically if you lose them or break them they throw you a bone. I haven’t had to worry about the warranty but nice to know it exists

I have drilled plenty of holes in perm shacks with the old two stroke augers. Have a window in the back open and the door propped open for some cross flow and let it air out as you go around and bank the house, no big deal.

My wife would say this is the worst advice ever.

If you had a plain house with no fabric this wouldn’t be so bad. But if you have pillows, blankets, beds, couches… all fabric this would be a horrible idea to use a 2-stroke. The smell would absorb into nearly everything.

There are many available options for electric that are very cheap.

You could use some VES Gold Polaris oil, that stuff smells amazing! Who doesn’t love the smell of 2 stroke?
All joking aside, kinda, I see your point. Those fancy fish houses are more cabins on the lake and not “fish houses”. My original comment was more about the health and safety aspect and not the 2 stoke will make my house smell bad aspect. The old days of drilling in the perm with the door closed and the smoke so bad your eyes burn are over.

Went for it and picked up a wheel house. Now I’ll have to get an auger different than the gas auger I’ve been using for almost 20 years now. Has anyone seen a certain place that’s had the best deal on an ion? I haven’t paid much attention to the battery augers other than I remember the first ions having an icing up issue. I don’t have interest in a drill type auger.

Unless you really want to jump on the electric bandwagon you do not need to get an electric auger to drill in a permanent shack. I have drilled plenty of holes in perm shacks with the old two stroke augers. Have a window in the back open and the door propped open for some cross flow and let it air out as you go around and bank the house, no big deal. If it gets too blue in there as you go from hole to hole, take a break and skim out the first holes you drilled.

I mean, take the excuse of a new house to buy a new toy if that is what you are after, I do it all the time ;). But if you are being told by other people that you need an electric now, you really don’t.

It was nice to meet you 85Lund! We had a great time out on the big water. We fished out of Arnesens and came home with our two person limit. On the shallower structures 27-20 fow we caught alot of dinks and some sauger/ keeper walters mixed in. When we moved out a little deeper in the 30+ fow we got into some nicer slot fish that were fun to reel in. Kalin’s gold google eye rattling jig with a stinger worked the best for us with frozen shiners. When I switched up to a purple/ white/ orange UV jig I got into some nice fat pike but not as many walters. On Friday the fish were more aggressive and would hit hard and easy catches, on Saturday they were more timid on the bite and you had to let them suck on the minnow a bit before setting the hook. It got pretty windy Friday and made for a fun wet ride! Very happy with our first fall trip to the lake and really impressed with Arnesens resort. We will be back!

I’m heading up Thursday as well. I’ve heard the jigging bite is on. Never been up there this time of year, looking forward to trying something new. If you see me and my wife on the water say hi, we are in the big orange Warrior tiller.

I set up a little 3D printing business out of my basement. Primarily a service center to print other peoples’ designs at a lower cost than the big shops. I am thinking about creating some of my own fishing niche items to sell. If you guys have any ideas of little thingamabobs that would be nice that no one currently makes that I can print let me know. I am currently in the process of coming up with a better snell storage solution than what is currently on the market.

It is probably a drive for you, but you should come up to LOTW on August 8th. Warrior will be letting you test drive the boats from 4-5:30 out of Wigwam. You will get to see all the different layouts and how they handle bigger water.

    Obviously, I recommend a Warrior.

I have the exact same issue, drives me nuts! I go to create a route on my graph, say follow it… It does great to the first dot and then just gets lost and wanders off.. I suspect it has something to do with the graph having a gps, my point 1 gps and the motorguide having one as well. I know there are settings within the graph on which one to use for what but for the life of me I can not figure it out.

Ohh, and also if I am using autopilot trolling at lets say 2 mph and want to jog the course a bit to the left, if I hit the left button the troller usually jogs far to the right and ticks me off. I now just manually troll to a set speed and drive it like a normal trolling motor.. Electronics man, they suck
