We just got back Saturday from 8 days in Saskatchewan. The weather was great but almost too good with a couple of days with no morning wind. No issies at the border except it took us a little longer as they were training a new officer on vehicle inspections but no big deal. Plenty of birds in the Quill Lake area with plenty more coming in. There were also a lot more ducks than last year with the increased water this year. All the regs are off now so I am sure the flow of hunters heading up will increase a ton. Good luck if you go!

Was in the EP Scheels store yesterday and they had both .243 and 30-.06 ammo on the shelf. I did not look real hard at bullet weight or anything but they had some if that helps anyone.

You can try a binder clip. It gives you a place to tie off on and you can adjust the tension by how much you put in the clip. The picture has 4# line on it and it pulls out pretty easy.

I would love to find one as well. The South St Paul range goes to 200 but longer would be great to find.

Buddy of mine got a set of the Pro-Tech Tuff-Bunks and really likes them. No carpet to install. They are kind of like the Trex deck material. I thought it would scratch his boat but not a one. Spendy but I will get those the next time I need to redo them.

We use the Tiger Tough from Radco on our fleet trucks and have had great luck with them. They can be a little bit of a pain to install but worth it. Really hold up well.

I have 2 of the tactical and really like them. One is a 4-16 and the other is the 6-24 which is great for longer range. I would agree with CC on the bigger MM which definitely is brighter. For the price they are really hard to beat.

We have a group that has gone on a fly-in out of Ear Falls on Kayair for years. The cabins have solar and propane and are very comfortable. It does have the outhouse but they are clean and solid. The fishing is outstanding most of the time with a big area offering multiple species. I doubt we will get up there this year either but still have a little bit of hope. It is incredibly relaxing when you are up there and well worth it IMO.

My WX1850 with single axle trailer,150, T8, gas and gear weighed 3940 last year on a trip. I agree with the others that the double axle is great for towing but if you need to move it in a garage or any where else the single axle is the way to go.

If you want an easy and light option without the tent you can give this a go. A poncho (green military) with the paracord cut and tied on the four corners. tie off the four corners on small tree’s and then bend a small tree over and tie the hood to it’ This will hold up the top and give you a little vent. You can adjust for wind by wrapping the corners tighter to the ground to block any wind. Add a light space blanket on the ground and you will be relatively toasty.

Just finished it this morning. I agree with the general consensus on wake boats but I was also interested in the registration fee’s questions. I have no problem paying a little more if they truly use the money to improve the accesses but what does everyone else feel?

Well I finished the build and decided to go with the 6.5 Grendel. I figure reloading supplies and even ammo will be tight regardless so this round seems to give me greater flexibility. My buddy talked about going on a hog hunt which I haven’t done for years so the 6.5 should be well suited to that. Ended up going with a Bear Creek upper with a 20″ heavy fluted barrel and side charging handle. The reviews online were mixed but a friend picked up one of their uppers and really liked it so I gave it a go. I like the fit and finish on the one that arrived but I have not shot it yet so we will see about the accuracy. Thanks everyone for your input and have a happy and safe holidays!

I was able to get some small pistol primers at Scheels yesterday. They limit you to 200 but at least they had some. No luck on the small rifle but I agree with Grouse that the stores may get some to keep the walk-in customers looking. I have seen a couple posts on Craigslist but they are scamming the price by asking almost 10 times the store price. I hope Karma catches up to these folks when they need something!

Thanks for the insight! I have not looked at that caliber but will now. The shotgun advice sounds great. Would you use buckshot, #2 or similar? I am not in a rush as you are both correct on ammo shortage and rifle parts. It is crazy how low the availability is on almost everything. I will keep updating the post and post a picture whenever I finally complete the build.

    Thanks!

Got out on Superior Thursday evening and Friday morning. Only 1 laker on Thursday with water temps in the high 50’s. Went out of Superior entry Friday and found some cooler water in the low 50’s after the waves calmed down. Managed to pick up 2 lakers on silver and black stick baits on long lines, 2 kings on a pink UV stick bait 30 down on a rigger and a coho on a gold Rapala. Great time on the big water!

I would be happy to take it if you don’t mind hanging onto it. I might be able to get up there this weekend. Let me know what you think. Thanks!

Spent my 20’s and early thirties in the military and Homeland Security and have been in operations for a commercial construction company for the last 10+. Always great meeting a wide range of people and seeing your kids doing better than we did growing up and having their own kids!

Lybacks runs 12 hour rentals from 7-7 for $100. Don’t know if they have openings but worth a call.

I fished out of Lybacks last weekend on Banana Reef. We did not do great but still had a good time. Eddy has always been very good to me and I would use him in a minute. I agree with the other posts that if you go blasting across the ice you will not get along with him but he puts out great roads. The house next to us had a great weekend so you jut never know. Good luck regardless.

This will only be my second time up this winter so I won’t be much help. The first time up I went out of Red Door on the north end. Caught some nice fish but nothing in the slot. Still a good time. Last year I went out on the south end a couple times from Lybacks and once out of Nitti’s and had mixed in both areas. I am sure alot of guys on here with more experience could put you in the right area. Good Luck!

I have an Ion auger. The shaft fits in well but I do not have the quick coupler.
