I ended up replacing the head unit. Hopefully this one last longer than four years.

I was just there this last weekend. It was a tough bite a lot of lookers. Our first day we had some 14inch up to 17 inch walleye. the second day it was 13inch and under. It was our first time up there and we were in a shack though a resort so we couldn’t move. We did have a great time, we just wish the fishing was a little better. We learned a lot, I wish we would have been able to move around more to find the fish. The ice where we were was 4 foot deep and we had two extentions on an ion auger. I hope you have a better bite than we did. Good luck.

2nd that, you’ll be 100% satisfied with whatever Chris builds you – thats a given. Great guy and a stand up member of the rod building community.

If you ever do decide to start building on your own feel free to join the linked FB group and post any questions you may have – There are a ton of knowledgeable and helpful members in that group willing to bring folks up to speed.

Mat Do you have the name of the facebook group for builders?

does anyone have the Baffin Selkirk boots. I just go a pair and I like them. I only been ice fishing a few time so I used my Bass Pro shop rain gear bibs on the ice the only thing is they don’t fit over my new boots so I was wondering if anyone had these boots and what bibs fit over them. Thanks

I really like my K Drill. The only reason I don’t have a Clam plate is I need the same electric drill to put the anchors in to hold my shack down. Other than that I would probably have the clam plate too.

I have recently started to build my own rods about a year ago. It is fun and addicting once you get the hang of it. I bought a starter kit from Mud Hole. I started with a few cheep blanks to practice on. The do have some decent rod kits available. I did a few 6 foot rods before I attempted and ice rod. Ice rods have a lot of flex in them. I tried to work on an ice rod tonight and had to stop due to frustration. You could check out rodbuilding.org they have a lot of information in their forums. Also Mud Hole is having a two day class in Minneapolis, MN 3/4/2017 Sat. 9am-7pm
Sun. 9am-12pm  $149 Good luck and have fun with it

Thanks everyone for the great tips and ideas. I modified my Lowrance elite 7 so I could use it for ice fishing for this season. If we decide were going to keep ice fishing I will pick up a flasher at the end of the year when the sales hit. I am going to the local bait shops ice fishing show in a few weeks, there will be a lot of speakers there and ice fishing venders to talk to.
