To bad you couldn’t catch them and beat them about the head with an oar!

I have been doing that for the last couple years. It has really helped to zero in on the current breaks that you know are there but can’t see.Combine pictures with gps locations if you have one.
May 25, 2005 at 9:00 pm #364891What are you trying a accomplish, more texture or less? Also what type of finish is on the walls now? I have done this type of work for 20+ years, give me more info and I should be able to help you out.
May 23, 2005 at 3:09 am #364384I would try some dead bait.I have used smelt and they seem to work to get those sleepers arosed enough to bite. The smelt are oily and give off alot of scent.
May 12, 2005 at 10:01 pm #362840If you go to the Fishing Hot Spots web site they have nice vinyl stick on rulers that give length and weight scales for Crappie,Bass,Walleye And Pike/Musky.Great for C/R.
April 13, 2005 at 9:57 pm #356680I have a 220 and it works great. So handy when you are traveling to different places to fish.Take a heavy duty 100 ft. cord and you can keep those batteries charged just about everywere you go.
April 4, 2005 at 12:33 am #354539I would shy away from that motor. My brother had one and it spent more time in the shop than in the water. He ended up getting rid of it.I’m no motor expert but the unit he had was trouble from day 1.
March 28, 2005 at 12:31 am #352728I have one and when I got it it made a noticable ticking. There is a connection in the head of the motor for the sonar which may not be tight.I had to push this connection tight on mine and the ticking stopped. The ticking is the ping speed of the sonar.
March 18, 2005 at 12:43 am #350485I’m old enough to rememember when these birds and many others were in danger of extinction. So now we need to shoot them because there eating to many fish? Whats next, shooting Eagles too, they eat fish and there numbers have also skyrocketed in the last decade.I truely beleive the real problem is irreponsible fisherman. You see these guy’s up there keeping limits of 9-14″ walleyes because : I paid alot of money to go up north fishing and I’m taking home a limit: I’m not discounting that the comorants are eating there share, but take some responsbilty fisherman. Those of you out there who fish for limits of baby fish need to become sportsman and think about the effects of taking home Bacon strip walleyes.I have fished Leech every year for the last 25yrs and still catch alot of good walleyes there and I only get up there 1 week a year.Hone your skills, there are alot of good fish there.
March 13, 2005 at 5:28 pm #349332Great article and photos.I caught a glimpes of a great grey at Lac La Rounge in the 70’s but none since. To bad most of them are in such bad shape.I have heard rumor of some being spotted along the Mississippi river near Praire Du Chein.Anyone in that area seen any?
February 28, 2005 at 2:56 am #345944I sure would like to see guttenberg closed. There are to many fools who want to keep everything they catch and the ones they don’t keep die from being pulled out of the deep water. When I’m out I take boat numbers and call the DNR AND REPORT THOSE I see taking small fish.I tell those I see that i’m reporting them. That’s when I love my cell phone! It’s amazing how fast they can empty a livewell of baby walleyes.Keeping limits of 9″-12″ sauger is common there for all the baby killers! Something needs to be done.
December 23, 2004 at 1:01 am #333071With such a limited resource and the advanced age that the sturgeon spawn it seems to me keeping a close handle on harvest makes very good sense. If limits are met close the season,Common sense tells you these fish could be decimated by overharvest.Plus we know there are fish taken that are not reported to add to the numbers the DNR has.
December 2, 2004 at 11:13 pm #330057These changes do not surprise me.BASS has been on a downhill slide since Ray Scott has left and I’m sure it will get more ridiculous as time goes by.I used to be proud to be a BASS member but have discontinued my membership as have many I fish with. These kind of decisions hurt all of us anglers, without the support of non tournament anglers and non pro’s all anglers lose.
October 27, 2004 at 4:36 pm #4135I’ve tried the tomato juice. It seemed to help but as soon as the dog got wet it was just like the day he got sprayed.Tried some stuff from the vet with the same results. The shed and time seem to work the best.

October 27, 2004 at 4:30 pm #325680I was there thurs.sat.sun. small fish, most under 15″.If you go downriver and fish the wingdamns and ripprap with cranks[deadstick e’m] you should do good.I caught and RELEASED 15 walleye between 17″-27″along with some nice pike, the largest a 31″.You have to work for them but I’d rather catch a few nice fish than a truckload of dinks.Good Luck
October 27, 2004 at 12:04 am #325603I’m in.You are right about a lack of fisherman and an abundance of good quality fish, ain’t it great. I have been getting good numbers of nice bass, walleye the last few weeks.Suspending cranks boucing off the bottom with long stop and go has been producing great. The late fall is the best time,no jet skis,no pleasure boats just fisherman who love it and know were running out of time!
September 28, 2004 at 2:34 am #322640I use a bait caster 90% of the time and this is what works for me.Adjust the tension on the exterior spool with the outside adjustment so when you push on the thumb bar and the lure hits the ground your spool stops turning. Also check your owners manual to see if there are internal weights that you can adjust if so adjust these according to manufactures suggestions. When you get it dialed in properly you can cast into the wind with little problems.Another hint don’t fill the spool to capacity, leave at least 3/16 of the top of the spool showing .This makes a big differance in casting and avoiding birdnests.
August 27, 2004 at 2:24 am #319087You never no what your going to catch. In May my brother caught a Rainbow Trout while we were Walleye fishing pool 11.
August 24, 2004 at 10:33 pm #318692I have been doing well on pool 11 with storm thundercranks perch color on the wingdams. Most all of the fish have been on the current side of the dams. You need to keep moving from dam to dam until you locate the fish.Friday I got 14 walleye Saturday 8 all but 2 fish between 15″-23″.Also good number and size of largemouth/smallmouth.Be alert as there is not much water over the dams.Stay to the channel ends of the dams and you should do well. All that I caught are still there.
August 18, 2004 at 10:26 pm #317912What a waste! I have seen this in the mississippi too.We will always have to deal with this type of thing.Hard to stop idiot’s.
