Sorry to be the one that breaks this to you but…….Assuming that this is a two cycle, there was probably a thin film of oil (from the last time it was run)between the rings & the cylinder and when you ran it on the starting fluid/carb cleaner, you washed this thin film off the rings (as this is what those cleaners do) and now it is siezed up. If you let it sit too long, the rings (w/o their film of oil) will rust/sieze to the cylinder walls. First of all don’t try to pull it over any more as you will just pull the rope out of the re-coil mechanism or pull the handle off the rope. The best thing you can do first is pull the spark plug out & soak the cylinder with WD-40 or some other light oil based lubricant. Once you get it loosened up, then you might have something that you can take somewhere to have looked at…Wouldn’t even bother till you can atleast pull it over…..Good luck……
Ps. You can look for some in-expensive used ones in the classifieds here.

    Jack,
Thanks for the update. Sounds like the bite has been pretty decent though. Seems like the 25′-30′ hot zone is pretty consistant all over the lake. Like the sounds of that 30″ monster though. sounds like a big ol’ girl. Talk to Cindy (at Scenic Bay) at she said the houses (rentals) were over by Malone Island of which they did pretty good out of this last weekend. How were the ice conditions? Sounds like if you are careful, the SE corner is pretty open to truck travel. Will send the short straw guy ahead of us with the auger..ha ha
Thanks again for the information. Will put it to good use. Gonna make it to Isle by noon on Thursday and git after them from there…………..Jim
Ps. You gonna make it up this weekend??

Also, just FYI as long as you mentioned tip ups. A buddy mentioned to me that you also have to have a blade or similar device on your treble hook if your are using it on a tip up…I just usually use circle hooks as they are easier to remove….Just FYI as long as we are talking regs…………Out

Rob, Thanks…..We have a rental set up for the weekend. Then we have portables too. Yes, Bob does do a good job with his posts. I tried to hire him for a day or so while we were up there but it sounds like everyone is gonna be tied up with the In-Depth Angling get together up at Hunter’s…We’ll manage though. This is our 6th year for this group of guys & we somehow manage to ice a few over the weekend. Thanks for the tip & if you hear anything else, gimme a shout……Thanks a ton!!!!!!!!!…..Jim

    Jack,
Look forward to your report after you get back. Thanks for the help. Just hoping the ice holds up to this heatwave we are having. Good luck this weekend…May your bobbers go deep & your flags go HIGH!!!!

I was a non believer too until someone took the time to explain that you actually are creating a pressure wave (water) in front of you (when you go fast on thinner ice) that will actually weaken the ice b4 you drive over it some more. So in addition to THIN ice, you have already cracked or stressed by sending the wave out…..ANYWAY, just be cool out there…

Hey ‘eye guide, thanks for the interest. I believe that it is Portside (in Isle).I think them and Scenic Bay run shacks together, don’t they? Are you guiding during the winter & what will a half day/full day or so run us? We have got enough equipment to out fit a small army but a little local expertise might be just what the doctor ordered.
This group of guys have been fishing this “Hardwater Classic” for 5 or so years together & have wasted a fair amount of time looking for “the spot” if you know what I mean.
Would also like to ice a few toothy critters if we get a chance too.
We will be up from Jan 19 thru the 22nd….We got a 12 bunk / 22 holer rented but would like to get out and about.
We will be truck mobile but that’s about it. Have not convinced our wives that sleds/4 wheelers are quite necessary yet.
Any help would be greatly appreciated…
    Thanks….Jim Cunningham

    Guys,
Thanks for the heads up on ice conditions on ML.We are heading up there (from Rochester here) in a couple weeks for four days of ‘eye yanking I hope.
Just want to give you kudos on the “everyone needs their space” post. When I am setting up shop, I really try & stay away from anyone that is already set up & would hope they would do the same to me. Don’t need to make their teeth rattle when I fire up the ice blaster (auger). You wouldn’t drop the trolling motor (on your summer rig) right in the livwell of someone else would ya?
We are heading up to Dickie’s so keep the great posts coming…..

Hey, I would definately make the trip to URL…Me & 8 of my closest buddies made the trip from Rochester (7 hrs) up there a couple years ago. It was -18’F when we left the hotel every morning & it WAS worth every degree. We did not catch a TON of fish (30-40) per day but they were the BIGGEST craps I have ever seen. Had a few ‘eyes too that were caught by accident & they were fun as well. I am not sure if they have opened it up to the general public (for ‘eyes) but still worth the trip any way you slice it. If you have never caught a 3 pound crappie, make the trip…..esox hunter

Try this recipe…It works great & have found that the fish is little more firm than my brothers recipe in which you boil the fish in the brine…….Give ‘er a try!!!!!
This is an attachment since I am unable to paste & I am lazy…Jim

Thanks CS for responding so quickly. The “McQuoids” of the world get just a little spendy (fancy) for our tastes and number of guys. Looking for something a little more on the private side…Any ideas there???? (sorry-should have mentioned that in my orig post)
