I was out last night in the Bayport area 30 to 35 FOW water temp 79 degrees with no success. I couldn’t mark a fish on the bottom to save my life! Maybe the Sturgeon are still up river from spawn or deeper due to warm water temps??

So if the seasons on the Rainy river and St. Croix river are remaining the same as in the past, what bodies of water are going to be open in 2015 for Catch and release sturgeon starting in June?

Thanks guys had a great night once the wind layed down. Caught 8 but missed a lot. fished from 7 to 11:30. Best was 51″ and caught my first tagged fish. Hooked for life at this point.

What have you been using for bait?

We pulled 3 flats out of 40ish feet of water on the St Croix yesterday. Two when I was alone an one by a friend, Pete.

Two under 10 pounds and this one. I didn’t scale it but I feel very safe in saying it’s over 30.

Were you trying for Flats or were you sturgeon fishing and that’s what bit?

It’s a very good area to fish flatheads.

I’m surprised you haven’t heard of the Belle Plaine catfish contest.

There are others on the board that fish over that way that could give you much better info then I…but fish the pool areas that have some structure to them. I’m sure the water levels are higher then normal for this time of year.

Live and cut sucker should be working well about now.

Thanks Brian, I’ll try to get in touch with some of those guys.

It’s not public, but Everts Resort is within 2 miles of the dam and it’s the closest.

For 7 bucks you can leave your rig and have very little to worry about. Good up to date fishing info as well. There’s other places to fish besides the dam. Check in with Steve or Kari.

I’ve been leaving my rig there for 7 years and never thought about vandalism while out until the wee hours of the morning.

There is the DNR ramp in the WI back channel that’s free…and you get what you pay for.

Thanks Brian I’ll check it out!

The higher the octane rating the slower the fuel detonates. Mostly for higher compression applications.

Steve DeMars took me out for the first time sturgeon fishing on the St Croix at 2 pm on a Friday afternoon. We fished until 4:30 and boated 31 fish.

They bite during the day, but I think you’ll find the tuna boat traffic hard to deal with. That and normally the wind dies in the evening so there’s another problem that won’t effect your fishing.

If a person can only get out during the day or doesn’t feel comfortable with night fishing…do it during the day. The best time to go is when you can…as they say.

    Hope that helps.

PS there’s getting to be more and more folks night fishing on LOTW’s as well to avoid the crowds.

Do Lake sturgeon have any nocturnal feeding instincts? Similar to Flatheads?
