Well….I spun the prop..nothing. Started the motor, ran it in forward for a while, back to neutral…still won’t go into reverse. You can manually put the motor in reverse by hand (at the motor–not using the controlls), but the controll unit won’t unlock to allow it to go into reverse. It won’t budge. Any other thoughts?

Thanks everyone! I ended up tracking down some marine grade plywood from Pine Island Lumber yard—pine island, MN. Also, was reffered to Kingsley Auto Body (SE Rochester) for taking the dent out–bringing the boat there next week. Will post pics when this is all said and done. Any more tips—keep them coming!

    auction number: 120103519996

so, any thoughts as to how a 90hp would do on a big tub like that?

thanks guys..but now I’m confused…what’s the best strategy? Put them together (positive to positive) and run the as one battery? Or, do install a “switch” where I can use one or the other or both?

Is power pro new??? I am familiar with fire line/spider wire etc, but not power pro…

my suggestion? throw the stupid bait caster setup away, and put a heavy spin-casting reel on, save yourself a headache every ten minutes…

I will go look closer, but it’s black, like motor oil under an ol’ ford pick-up, or a harley for that matter…(sorry). I don’t think there was water in it….hmmm, I will check–thanks!

Not good! Those motors are known for that problem. My dad had the same motor on a 99′ lund 18′ fisherman. Al’s specialty marine in Rochester re-built it 3 times (twice under warranty). I can’t remember all the details, but I know the oil system fails and the thing just siezed up. One time he had just barely gotten the dumb thing on plain for the first time after being re-built, and she went down. All he could get was an idle out of it. I think one time he had to go 3 miles on his kicker.

Long story short, he now has a 2004 yamaha 4-stroke 115hp–loves it, hasn’t scene the shop yet.

If you need more help on this, email me, & I will give you his phone number. [email protected]

I put another long day in with mine this weekend..my only question is why did they make us suffer so long without the stinkin thing…it’s just plain too cool. I have no complaints. As far as “what about cold weather”? If it’s cold enough to be wearing gloves..chances are you will be using your transom mount anyway…

once again, thanks for the tips! I will printing these all off and bringing them to my favorite but frustrated mechanic, John at Al’s Specialty in Rochester. He has commited to standing behind his work, I am very impressed with his service on this frustating project.

keep the tips coming, I appreciate any in-sight!

yeah, I have heard this was a problem motor with the 3 cylenders…I have replaced fuel line and bulb, I will check to see if the fuel filter has been replaced or not…thanks!

Points well taken. One cool thought, if you buy your unit now, you get an extra remote free…SO…..your budy in the back of the boat also holds “The Power”…so when you are restling the “10#’er”–something I cannot personally comment on, yet anway–you simply let your side-kick take over.

Another cool aspect, is how easily (touch one button) you can program your remotes to run someone else’s Co-Pilot, so if you have your remote’s, and rod mounts..you bring them along when fishing out of your buddy’s boat…and whala..you are in business!

If you are second nature with your foot control…maybe it wouldn’t do anything for you.. As for me…my leg get’s sore after a day of balancing on top of the foot pad. I like to walk around..and you really can’t with a foot pad, I find it’s easier to sit down and run your foot controller than do so standing…

As for mounting it on your pole..I haven’t tried it on a bait caster (you mount it under and on the side of your reel) but, imagine you are holding your open face reel/rod in your hand…see where your thumb is? directly underneith your thumb lies your remote…no sweat!

Got to run for now..will write more later.

    good luck with your decision!

thanks! no problem in getting out of the whole, it either runs like a top, or it bogs down at mid throtle as you are accelerating and usually kills…sometimes it “catchs” and gets in to the revs….very frustrating. Someone suggested it’s a fuel problem becaus the engines built in the 70’s ran in the 70’s gas…today the fuel is different, and it gives certain motors a hard time….who knows…

Is the water open yet? are you seeing much boat action? I’m from Rochester, but fish that area once in a while, can’t wait to hook into some northern/bass action! I don’ t have any early/cold suggestions for you, but would love to hear the same tips!
